Lotto NRFL 2015 Welcome

Now that an enthralling FIFA U-20 World Cup has wrapped up, it’s time for the focus to go back on the Lotto NRFL with games set to take place in all divisions this weekend.

The latest round of the Chatham Cup is disrupting some of the action, particularly the Premier League with only one game going ahead, but there is still a host of intriguing match-ups in store in the other divisions.

The fixture list has thrown up several key encounters in the battle to avoid relegation, such as Ngaruawahia’s hosting of Takapuna in Division One and Onehunga-Mangere’s visit to Papatoetoe in Division Two.

Much of the drama will be at the other end of the table in the Women’s Premier as Forrest Hill welcome Western Springs and Three Kings head south to take on leaders Claudelands while there is a real six pointer in the lower reaches with Norwest and Papatoetoe facing off.

In the programme this week, we preview the latest rounds of all four divisions, as well as featuring photos from Phototek of several recent matches. In the spotlight were Glenfield’s 3-0 win over Western Springs and Three Kings’ nil-all draw with Eastern Suburbs in the Women’s Premier, in addition to North Shore’s 3-1 success against Manurewa in Division One.

As always, we also have all the up-to-date tables, team progress graphs, golden boot charts and squads so there is a wealth of info at your fingertips!

Our Lotto NRFL social media platforms continue to be the place to go for all score updates, results, goal details and other news - be sure to tag us @LottoNRFL with your updates from the sideline!

Good luck for your game!

Programme 2015

Glenfield Rovers vs Bay Olympic

McFetridge Park | Saturday 27 June | Kick-off: 2pm | Referee: Ben O’Connell Assistant Referees: Simon Lount, Ben Hill

All the Premier League focus will be centred on this match as no other top-flight action is taking place due to the Chatham Cup. It’s a fitting encounter for such a billing with both sides in real need of the points. Glenfield have now dropped to third and will be looking for the win that will take them back to the top while the Bay are drifting into lower mid-table and aiming to climb into the top six. Revenge will also be on the minds of Bay Olympic after a 3-1 loss to Glenfield earlier in the campaign. Indeed, their recent record against Rovers is not good with last season’s meetings also both resulting in losses.

Fencibles United vs Glenfield Rovers

William Green Domain | Friday 26 June | Kick-off: 7pm | Referee: Paul Mason Assistant Referees: Mark Moffatt, Caleb Moffatt

Fencibles’ season reached its nadir last weekend with a 4-0 loss at Norwest and their hopes of salvaging something from this campaign appear to be diminishing by the round. To make matters worse, the cellar dwellers now face one of the strongest sides in the league and Glenfield will not be in a complacent mood as they need the points to keep up the pressure on leading pair Claudelands Rovers and Forrest Hill.

Forrest Hill-Milford United vs Western Springs Becroft Park | Sunday 28 June | Kick-off: 1pm | Referee: Chris Casey Assistant Referees: Free Daio, Charles Nothnagel

This clash is the pick of the women’s action as both sides are in the running for the title and are seeking a win here to stay in touch with Claudelands. This is Springs’ second high-pressure match in quick succession and they will be hoping for better than in their trip to Glenfield, which resulted in a comprehensive 3-0 loss. Forrest Hill meanwhile dispatched Lynn-Avon 5-0, are three points better off and have home advantage so will go in as favourites.

Claudelands Rovers vs Three Kings United

Galloway Park | Sunday 28 June | Kick-off: 1pm | Referee: Carl Watkins Assistant Referees: Sean Coon, Dominic Hopkirk

The Three Kings players are likely to have been in a state of shock this week after witnessing their star striker, Martine Puketapu, suffer a horrific injury in the nil-all draw with Eastern Suburbs last weekend. Puketapu will now be out for some time with a broken leg, meaning the likes of Jasmine Pereira and Hannah Wall will need to shoulder even more of the goal-scoring burden. Claudelands have no such concerns as they are the top scorers in the league by a huge margin.

Norwest United vs Papatoetoe

Huapai Reserve | Sunday 28 June | Kick-off: 1pm | Referee: Chris McDermott Assistant Referees: Hilary Osborne, Fernando Karem

Norwest are fresh from securing their second win of the season – both recorded against strugglers Fencibles – and will be keen to build on that with another positive result here. They will fancy their chances of doing so as they are now ahead of Papatoetoe on the ladder and have a good record against the sides around them, losing just once to a fellow bottom-four side. That loss came against Papatoetoe though so the visitors also have reason to feel confident.

Eastern Suburbs vs Lynn-Avon United

Madills Farm | Sunday 28 June | Kick-off: 1pm | Referee: Charlie Tseng Assistant Referees: Faiyaz Ali, Salman Ali

This is a key game for Lynn-Avon in particular as a gap is now starting to emerge between the top six sides in the division and the rest. The two teams on either side of that divide are Eastern Suburbs and Lynn-Avon and there is a six-point chasm between the pair. If Suburbs emerge victorious here then the difference will be extended to nine, leaving Lynn-Avon with an awful lot to do to break into the upper half in the remainder of the season.

Programme 2015

Mt Albert-Ponsonby vs Manurewa

Anderson Park | Friday 26 June | Kick-off: 7pm | Referee: Jeremy Ferguson Assistant Referees: John Bennett, Martin Huang

Rock bottom after round five, Mt Albert have done well to claw themselves up the table and their relegation worries have now been eased somewhat. But they remain just five points from the drop zone so a poor run of form would soon see them back in trouble. Manurewa are in a similar boat after also improving their situation in recent weeks but likewise needing to keep collecting points. A win here would therefore be hugely significant for both sides.

Ngaruawahia United vs Takapuna Centennial Park | Saturday 27 June | Kick-off: 2.45pm | Referee: Mark Owens Assistant Referees: Ben Norman, Hubert Bakx

Ngaruawahia finally have a win to their name and, with at least two games in hand on all their relegation rivals, there’s every chance they aren’t the dead certs for the drop they once appeared to be. Those games in hand will need to bring positive results though and this clash with Takapuna is simply a must win as the northern side are just a point ahead of Ngaruawahia. This is therefore a real six-pointer for both sides and could have a big impact on their chances of staying in the division.

Papatoetoe vs Onehunga-Mangere United

Murdoch Park | Saturday 27 June | Kick-off: 2.45pm | Referee: John McCoskrie Assistant Referees: Khalid El Gana, Faiyaz Ali

With both of these teams facing a battle against relegation over the coming weeks, the significance of the points here cannot be overstated, particularly with bottom-placed Lynn-Avon not expected to claim a win at promotion contenders North Force. Papatoetoe are slightly better positioned – they sit two points ahead of second-from-bottom Onehunga-Mangere – but were beaten 2-1 by the Mountain Men in the pair’s previous encounter so there is no real favourite here.

Fencibles United vs Te Atatu Riverhills Park | Saturday 27 June | Kick-off: 2.45pm | Referee: Vaughan Couillault Assistant Referees: Michael Dickason, Chris Scott

These sides will be itching to put on a positive display after both falling to comprehensive defeats a fortnight ago and, along with all other clubs, sitting out last weekend due to the FIFA U-20 World Cup final. Fencibles will have been particularly disappointed with their most recent outing – a 4-1 loss at Oratia – as a win would have put them right in the hunt to go up. As it is, they are still in touch with the promotion spots but need to win matches like this against sides below them.

Albany United vs Claudelands Rovers

Rosedale Park | Saturday 27 June | Kick-off: 2.45pm | Referee: James Ashford Assistant Referees: Richard Middleton, Neil Tobin

Claudelands were on the wrong end of one of the results of the season in the previous round, being outclassed 5-0 at home by North Force. Ironically, they can now take inspiration from Force’s performance in that match as they must also make light of a lengthy trip here to face Albany. The home side’s recent form on their own patch has been decent with only one defeat suffered in the last four matches at Rosedale Park, including a 2-1 win over Onehunga-Mangere in the last round.

North Force vs Lynn-Avon United

Kamo Sports Park | Sunday 28 June | Kick-off: 2.45pm | Referee: Avnit Maharaj Assistant Referees: Dave Doidge, Ben McInnes

There would appear to be only one likely outcome here with everything going against a Lynn-Avon win. To start with, they are propping up the table while North Force are pushing for promotion. When you throw in the energy-sapping journey to Whangarei and the fact that Force beat Lynn-Avon 2-0 last time round, the smart money would certainly be on a home win, particularly as the hosts’ confidence will be sky high after their five-goal thumping of Claudelands.
