Social media allows you to do things that in person networking does not. However, networking for businesses and business executives must infused both in person and online activities. “Either-or” approach may not necessarily yield the best results. One supports the other, so an effective networker will normally use a varied approach.

Social Networking In Person

A: Hi, I’m Earl. Good to meet you both today.

B: Dana. This is my colleague Tim. Hope you didn’t wait long?

A: Not at all. Just got here myself. So, did you guys drive here?

B: Oh no. There’s no way we can get parking easily at this hour. We got on the Metro and it took us only 15 minutes. We’d been stuck in traffic otherwise.

A: (Laugh) That’s right! Shall we get some coffee at the cafe across the street first? Then we can discuss business...

A: So, my friend Eric says you’re into photography huh...

B: Yes that’s right. My wife gave me an SLR for Christmas last year. I take it as a sign she wanted me to start a new hobby. She’s always complaining I have no other interest besides playing football --- and breaking my bones all the time.

A: (Laugh) Well, definitely not a bad move on her part. I hear you’ve been involved in some celebrity shoots recently. That’s amazing!

B: Yea. That was awesome. I owe her and she definitely won’t let me forget that. (Laugh) So, you want me to photograph your wedding. Have you guys decided on the venue?
