LORD OF THE FLIES Lord of the Flies is about a group of school boys who crash on an island and have to wait to be rescued. The boys split up into two “tribes” and that causes them more problems. They use a conch shell as a symbol of authority, the one with shell is the one who speaks.

AUTHOR WILLIAM GOLDING Born in Saint Columb minor in Cornwall, England in 1911

He started writing at the age of 7

His dad was a school teacher, mother was in the women's suffrage movement

Taught for a little while until the outbreak of WWII happened

He originally wanted to go into science

He served 5 years in the navy

In his childhood he liked to hurt people, he was a jokester

Died June 19, 1993 because of heart failure
