Alan Hunt Memorial Run/

Walk was successfully

staged within the La Puri-

sima Mission on Mother’s

Day – May 14th. See the

results within the newslet-

ter of the many LVDC

participants. I wasn’t able

to attend due to atten-

dance at a Freemonth

Street Zipline and Indoor

Skydiving in Las Vegas.

Next LVDC event is the

Annual Parade Route

Run/Walk & Kids 1K

Run on June 24th. Look

for details within the

newsletter. Also, a favor-

ite DC Comic hero (BM) will be

attending. Be sure to bring your

camera! I’m looking for volun-

teers to help with the staging area

and on the course.

Lastly, Half-Marathon (HM) train-

ing starts on Saturday, 10 June, at

the La Purisima Misson. That date

is geared for 1st time HM’s – so

the course will be flat and approxi-

mately 3 miles. See you at the La

Purisima Mission Visitors Center

at 8 am.

aquathon distances: (1)The tra-

ditional 1K swim and 3.5 mile

run. (2)The new beginners 500

meter swim and 1 mile run.

Also a 2000 meter Open Ocean

Swim has been added. The ba-

sic 5 K footrace ,a kids Mile

and a Soft Sand Sprint for the

small children round out the

events.

Post Race events include live

music, food sampling and soft

drinks and adult beverages, bib

drawing door prizes and a vari-

ety of vendors throughout the

summer.

Registration Opens at 5 p.m on

site every Wednesday, Ocean

swim waves begin at 6:25, Run-

ning events begin at 6:35. Ven-

dors Booths open at 5 p.m. Free

Kiddies Sand Sprint at 7:30.

Bring Lawn chairs or blankets

to enjoy the sunset perform-

ances, along with your tran-

sistion gear and set up early.

RIAL FUN RUN. ARROYO

GRANDE

This fun filled event is

perfect for active fami-

lies and runners alike.

The course takes you

through the pictur-

esque scenery at

Talley Vineyards along dirt roads

and trails through the vineyards. A

commemorative “I Beat the Vint-

ner” T-Shirt will be awarded to

those who finish the 5K Fun Run

before Vintner Brian Talley.

Registration after midnight, May

31 does not guarantee a

shirt. Check-in and Race Day reg-

istration begins at 7am. Late and

Race Day fees (6/1-6/4/17) are: for

the 10K, 5K 1 Mile Walk, $40 (no

shirt guarantee ) and for the youth 1

mile run it is $25( no shirt guaran-

tee).these events start at 8 AM and

9:30 AM respectively.

All participants are entered in a raf-

fle for lots of gifts and merchandise

that has been donated by local mer-

chants. Overall winners of each

race (not including the walk) win a

commemorative etched wine de-

canter and a $100 gift certificate to

LeftLane Sports. All first place di-

vision winners receive a logo wine

glass (logo water bottle for those

under 21).

MORE. ORCUTT COMMU-

NITY PARK.

The 2nd Annual Run To KNOW

MORE is being held by the North

County Rape Crisis and Child Pro-

tection Center at the beautiful Or-

cutt Community Park. The Run

will support the work of the Center

in northern Santa Barbara County

in helping survivors of sexual as-

sault and child abuse in their jour-

ney of healing and growth. Help

us end violence in the north county

and Run To KNOW MORE!

Event details and schedule

Do you have a team ready? If you

put together a team, EACH mem-

ber who gathers $100.00 in

pledges will get their registration

fee refunded to them. You must

bring your pledges to the event to

qualify for a refund.

The Run To KNOW MORE is a

COLORFUL RUN where you

will be dusted with vibrant col-

ors of a water soluable, completly

safe cornstarch based powder

throughout the race. Run registra-

tion will begin at 8:00 AM, and the

Run itself will begin promptly at

9:00 AM.

You may want to bring a change of

clothes, or a towel to wipe off be-

fore returning to your vehicle.

Adequate parking, though carpool-

ing is always nice when possible.

There will be plenty of water.

NOTE: All shirts run large, and

there are no shirt sizes specific to

children.

FRONT RUN 1/2 MARA-

THON, 10K &5K. VENTURA.

City Impact's 7th Annual Ven-

tura Beachfront Half-Marathon,

10K & 5K will be held in Ven-

tura, California with a scenic

course along the beautiful coast-

line. The race will begin on the

North side of the Ventura

Pier. Both races are flat and fast

runs with scenic views of the

ocean and islands. The half mara-

thon and 10K will begin on Ven-

tura's promenade extending along

the Pacific Coast Highway. The

5K runs out and back along the

oceanfront promenade. This is a

run you can't resist!

WATERBURY ROCK TO

PIER RUN & HALF MARA-

THON. MORRO BAY.

Named in memory of Brian

Waterbury who originated the race

in 1970, this 6 mile goes along the

beach from the start at the rock in

Morro Bay to the finish at the pier

in Cayucos.

Registration will open on May 4.

Awards will be given to the top

three finishers in 15 age divisions

from 10 & under to 80 & over.

The Rock’n Around the Pier Half

Marathon will be held primarily on

the hard packed sand with a one

mile loop through a local park. The

half marathon is open to the first

300 participants. Registration for

both races includes a race t-shirt,

finisher’s medal, and breakfast at

the pier.

Rock to Pier (6 miles) is $30 The

Half Marathon is $70. The prices

increase after June 16, 2017.

Transportation is provided back to

Morro Rock where a post race

breakfast will be held as well as

the awards ceremony.

This is a very walker friendly

course! This course is all flat,

there are plenty of aid stations,

and will be loads of fun! A gen-

erous 4:00 hour time limit for

the half marathon, allow-

ing participants to take their time

and enjoy the scenery. All levels

of fitness are welcome at our

events.

Middle of the pack runners:

This course has lots of flat ocean

front miles to keep you cool and

ready to work on that PR.

Elite and Advanced runners:

This all flat course along

the Ocean Front, is a great way

to test your Summer time speed

as you work on that mid year

PR.

ROUTE 1K KIDS RUN AND 3K RUN/WALK, LOMPOC, CA. Purpose of this event is to raise research funds and awareness of Cystic Fi-brosis (CF) .More than 10 million Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective gene. 100 Percent of entry fees will be donated in honor of 11-year-old Mallory Holloway. 1K Kid’s Run starts at 8:30 AM and 3K Run/Walk at 9:00 AM. Start and finish in the Times Square Plaza parking lot at 511 North “H” Street next to PLUS Property Management. Registration starts at 7:30 AM. Pre-registration not required but recommended for speedy check-in morning of event. Parking available approximately ½ block away in the Lompoc Shop-ping Center next to Vons’s Gas Station located at North “H” & College Street. Entry fee: $5 for 1 K Kids Run and $10 for Adult Run/Walk ($2 discount for LVDC members). Various age category awards for the 1K Kids Run and the 3K Run/Walk. The Flower Festival Parade with the theme of “All that Jazz” starts at 10 AM. Enjoy the only trail run in the

Santa Maria Valley. 5K and

10K courses will srart from

Orcutt community Park and

loop around the Orcutt Trails.

Orcutt Coomunity Park is lo-

cated at 5800 S. Bradley.

There are moderate elevation

changes on non technical dirt

trails which make the course

just challenging enough, and

with beautiful views across the

Santa Maria Valley, and out to

the ocean. Proceeds from this

event support the Santa Maria

Valley Open Space trail advo-

cacy group in their efforts to

expand, develop and maintain

trails and open space for the

Santa Maria Valley. Entry fees

are $25 for the 5K and $35 for

the 10K. Day of the event reg-

istration is available, but a shirt

is not guaranteed. This event

starts at 9:00 AM so come

early to register on the day of

STRIDE WITH THE TIDE

5K. PISMO BEACH PIER.

This 5K race begins at 8:30am,

with onsite registration only,

from 7:15am-8:15am. Entry

fees will be $15 without a race

shirt and $25 with one. Shirts

will be available for the first

120 racers, upon request. The

course will be marked on the

hard packed sand, starting and

ending at the Pismo Beach Pier.

Gold, silver, and bronze medals

will be awarded to the top three

men and women ages 12 & un-

der, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39,

40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, &

80+. This event is conducted by

the San Luis Distance Club. For

more information, please con-

tact the Pismo Beach Parks &

Recreation Department at

805-773-7063 . Note: There is

no pre-registration for this

event. Register on the day of

the event. They are efficient at

registration and it takes no time

at all.

City Hall, through Wednesday,

create an account. After this date,

registration must be completed on

site on the day of the race, paying

istration" opens at 7 a.m., with the

race beginning at 8 a.m. on Satur-

day August 26th, at the Ramona

Garden Park, 993 Ramona Ave-

nue in Grover Beach. Please call

through August 15, and $30 after

that date.

Stay for the Stone Soup Festival

which is happening during that

you from the famous Santa Bar-

bara Friendship Dolphins Foun-

tain at the edge of Stearns Wharf,

past the “Queen of the Missions”

and on up an elevation of 3996

feet to the Majestic views at La

Cumbre Peak. Capture the pana-

ramic layout of the city, SB Chan-

nels and the Channel Islands. You

can see where you started from

13.1 miles (sealevel) ear-

lier.Finishers get the coveted

"Finishers" Tee and a Com-

memorative Coin.Results

posted. This event is part of the

SB Athletic Associationsn's an-

nual Grand Prix, so endurance

athletes and competive athletes

join the mix. This is a run into

the back country so plan accord-

LOMPOC HIGH SCHOOL NANCY PERRY SCHOLARSHIP RECEIPIENTS

CABRILLO HIGH SCHOOL NANCY PERRY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Isaac Acosta,(rt) plans to major in

Business Administration at a CSU/

UC school. His current GPA is 3.4

and ranks 68th in his class. Isaac has

been a part of the CA$H Business

Academy for four years at Lompoc

High and also a member of the Fu-

ture Business Leaders of America.

Isaac plans on attending U C River-

side, majoring in Business.

His cross country coach stated that “He works very

hard to be the best and is willing to put in the time

needed to be successful. “ Isaac led his team to the

section finals for the first time in 12 years.

He has been awarded Brave of the Quarter, has

been on the Principals List all four years. He has

lettered in both cross country and track and field

and received the coach award in both in addition to

many other awards in League, CIF and Northern

Santa Barbara County Round Table. We wish him

well in Cross Country and his college studies.

Matthew Taber (l) is graduating with

a 4.1 GPA, is 17th in his class, and is

a member of the Lompoc Valley Dis-

tance Club. Matt plans to major in

engineering, his passion is in the sky,

and flight as evidenced by the crea-

tion of the R-1 Fulcrum, a racing

drone, as a senior project.

Alicia Morales (rt) plans on major-

ing in biology (pre-med) at West-

mont College. Alicia currently has

a GPA of 3.86, and is ranked 52 in

her graduating class. She has been

accepted into the National Honor

Society, been on the Honor Roll,

and on the Principals list.

Her school activities include both cross country

and track and field where she has received the

Scholar Athlete Award in both sports and the

Coaches Award in Track and Field. Other

school activities include Cabrillo Aquarium, the

Aquarium Club, of which she was Vice Presi-

dent. Alicia was a Link Crew leader (helping

incoming Freshman with orientation) She is

also in the California Scholarship Federation.

Volunteering has been a part of her life the past

three years at the Lompoc Library where she

assists two hours / week, 40 weeks / year. We

send our best wishes to Alicia at Westmont.

He has been in involved track & field during high

school, and in the California Pole Vault Club. In

the CIF T&F prelims he reached a season record in

the hurdles. Some of Matt’s awards and honors are

Academic Letters, Conq of the Quarter, Athletic

Letter, Scholar Athlete, boys hurdles MVP In the

community Matt has attained the rank of Eagle

Scout with 27 merit badges. He is also involved

with his church, with the Bryce Fabing Memorial

Bike Drive, the Community Kitchen, and Track &

Field Children’s Clinic. These are only a few of

the many activities Matt has participated We wish

him well as he proceeds into his future with passion.

Cross country and track and field became a part of her high school experience; “Running one mile was a strug-

gle; I could not image running six miles non-stop.” Jen-

nifer went on to outstanding performances. She is active

Lompoc Valley Distance Club wishes Jennifer the best of luck in her college career and future endeavors.

Jennifer Diaz (left) has an occupational goal as a pediatrician or anesthesiologist.

She plans on majoring in biology or

chemistry and continue until she has

earned her doctorate degree. Her current cumulative GPA is 4.37 and is ranked 4th

in her class. Jennifer relates that she is the

first in everything, the oldest child, the oldest grandchild, and the first to go to

college.
