Location of 10 important acupuncture/acupressure points 

(Note: 1 cun is equal to width of the thumb)

Generally all the points are located in depressions on the skin.

 

Stomach 36

Location: Below the knee, 3 cun (1 palm width) inferior to the lower border of patella, one fingerbreadth lateral to the anterior crest of the tibia. If you run your hand along the outer side of the tibia, you can feel a depression.

 

Large intestine 11

Location: At the elbow,at the lateral end of the transverse cubital crease. Bend the elbow and mark the point at the end of the crease line on outer side.

 

Large intestine 4

Location: Press the thumb and first finger together and it will form an elevation. The point is at the highest point of the mount.

 

Urinary Bladder 40 (BL 40)

Location: Behind the knee joint, at the center of the crease line

 

Liver 3

Location: On the dorsum of the foot, between the 1st and 2nd metatarsal bones, in the depression proximal to the metatarsophalangeal joints and the proximal angle between the two bones

Gall Bladder 34

Location: Below the lateral aspect of the knee, in the tender depression slightly (approximately 1 cun) anterior and inferior to the head of the fibula

Lung 7

Location: This point can be easily located using the “tiger mouth grip”. It is at the point where the index finger touches the hand.

If the forefinger is placed in the anatomical snuffbox, and moved directly proximally over the full extent of the radius, the finger falls into the cleft between the two tendons

 

Heart 7

Location: At the wrist joint, on the inner side, in the depression at the side of the of the pisiform bone.

Location: On the inner side of the lower leg, 3 cun (1 palm width) above the prominence of the medial malleolus, in a depression close to the medial crest of the tibia.

   

Kidney 1

Location: This is the only acupuncture point on the sole of the foot. On the sole of the foot, between the second and third toes, approximately one third of the distance between the base of the second toe and the heel, in a depression formed when the foot is plantar flexed (extended or bent downwards).
