Resurrected Joy

• Living a resurrected life gives us hope and that hope gives us joy.

• Sanctification – The Process of Being Made Holy.

Baptism – A Complete Change

1. This is when we die to our old life and are raised again to a new life. “The old has gone and the new has come…” 2 Corinthians 5:17

2. In the eyes of God our spiritual transformation has fully occurred we are now spiritual beings in a physical body instead of human with a spiritual aspect. “We are a new creation…”

Dead, But Not Yet!

• They are completed actions and day to day we live out that reality as our new life takes over our old life like the seed is transformed into its full reality.

• We are dead, but not yet!

Ephesians 4:17-5:22

• 4:22-24 on page 1822 we read:• You were taught, with regard to your

former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Lessons from Hebrews

• Hebrews 10:10 says: we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

•  • Hebrews 12:14 (Page 1877) also

calls us to: Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 4:1-10 (1840)

• Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. 2 For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

• 3 It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, 5 not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; 6 and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. 7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 8 Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.

1 Thessalonians 4:9-10

• 9 Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. 10 And in fact, you do love all the brothers throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers, to do so more and more.

We Died To Sin…Keep Dying!

Living the Truth:

• Truth #1: Because of what God has done, at our resurrection, we must live for is will and not our own.

• If we want His sacrifice, we need to surrender to His will. Without the death to the old self how can there be a resurrection?

• Action: Keep putting to death the sinful nature!

Page 14: Living a Resurrected Life Sermon 4 “Dead, But Not Yet!”

Living the Truth:

• Truth #2: God wants growth and transformation.

• We see this all throughout the scriptures. He wants His people to come near to Him so He can transform them.

• Action: We must offer ourselves to Him for that transformation.

Page 15: Living a Resurrected Life Sermon 4 “Dead, But Not Yet!”

Living the Truth:

• Truth #3: Motivation matters. God knows the destruction of sin, and the separation that it causes, and so he wants us to give up our old life in order to be the new creation He made us to be. 1 Peter 1:13-16 (Page 1887):

• Action: Desire to be more like God for His glory.

Page 16: Living a Resurrected Life Sermon 4 “Dead, But Not Yet!”

• 1. He wants you to give him glory in all that you do…this is worship.

• 2. He wants you to enjoy, support, and encourage the family that he has given you…this is fellowship.

• 3. He wants you to offer yourself to Him so that you can be recreated in the likeness of Christ…this is discipleship.

Page 17: Living a Resurrected Life Sermon 4 “Dead, But Not Yet!”

• 4. He wants you to have compassion on others and to use the gifts that He has blessed you with…this is ministry.

• 5. And he wants you to tell others how great God is, and what he can do for them… this is evangelism.

• Through these five aspects you will become what God has called you to be. You can grow in holiness.
