How Do I Manage Conflict? How Can I Manage It Better?
Merrick Library
10:00AM-12:00PM
Most managers deal with conflict daily, but not always
effectively. In this workshop you will be guided through an
assessment of how you handle conflict at work, the strengths and
weaknesses of your current approach, and learn how to use
situational specific approaches to resolve conflict more effectively.
You’ll find these skills empowering, and helpful in creating a more
productive workplace.

for Human Resource Studies, NYIT
FEE: $65 Member; $160 Nonmember;

Archives on a Shoestring—Session II
Farmingdale Public Library
9:00AM-1:00PM
Encapsulation and box making will be discussed since it is a skill
of high interest that would be of interest to those maintaining
archives and libraries. Sending items out for encapsulating and
purchasing custom boxes is very expensive. Being able to
encapsulate and make four fold phase boxes in house would be
more efficient and cost-effective. Focus of this second workshop
will be on the preservation of pamphlets and documents.
Chapbooks, playbills, brochures, music—anything that is a soft
covered, single folded/stapled items and single pages like maps,
letters, etc., will be covered. Content will be on how to prepare
and sew items, how to prepare and place items in an envelope in a
binder if it is too valuable to sew, and how to encapsulate single
documents. Attendees will be asked to bring a small document,
like a post card or photo, to encapsulate and take home.
Presenters: Jason Torre and Arielle Hessler of Stony Brook
University libraries
FEE: $25 All

Join LILRC at this year’s Long Island Library Conference as we
team up with NCLA Health Services Committee and SCLA Health
Concerns Committee to present:
A Candid Look at Autism This presentation will provide a candid look into what it is like to
grow up, live and work with a diagnosis of autism; as presented by
the author and illustrator, Michael Werner and aspiring
motivational speaker Jonathan Civardi. Both gentlemen offer their
personal insight into the world of autism and leave the audience
with a clearer understanding of what it means to be a child
growing up, as well as an adult with autism, living and working in
today’s world. In a candid and engaging manner, Michael
describes his childhood through his children’s book “Aspey’s
Adventures with Asperger’s”. He clearly articulates his childhood
experiences in a way so anyone can understand his personal
struggles while also seeing the similarities of experiences and
feelings from of their own childhood memories. Jonathan speaks
about lessons learned, life after high school and stepping stones
towards future goals he strives toward. Jonathan shares not only
his story but a wealth of knowledge of resources for any library
professional desiring to offer support to adults on the spectrum,
their family and friends who seek to support their loved ones.
Presenters: Michael Werner, Jonathan Civardi, Roseanne Task
(moderator)

Video Marketing for Libraries: Nuts, Bolts and F-Stops – or the
real details of how to tell your story with video
Farmingdale State College, Greenley Library
1:00PM-3:00PM
You know that video is a powerful storytelling medium and you
want to use that power to share your library’s story in a
compelling, share-worthy manner. You know you and your library

communications. But you’re also wondering if video is something
you and your library can afford or learn how to use.
The answer is YES. You CAN create awesome videos and do video
marketing cheaply, easily and effectively.
This workshop will give you affordable gear recommendations,
software tools and tips, show it all to you, and show you how to
make it all work for your library. This workshop will give you
interactive and hands-on experience with creating videos you can
use, as we plan, shoot, and edit together right in this workshop.
