You’ll find other community Christmas events on the Council’s website www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/whatson Town-Gown Partnership The City of Ryde is in a unique position in having a world class University in its local government area. Under the Macquarie – Ryde Futures partnership, the Council and Macquarie University have worked on a number of projects in recent years, with great mutual benefits to both organisations and the wider community. I am very pleased to announce that this productive town- gown partnership will continue well into the future with the resigning this week of a revised Memorandum of Understanding, setting out refined goals of this valuable and mutually beneficial partnership. 10/50 vegetation clearing The 10/50 vegetation clearing legislation was developed by the NSW Rural Fire Service to permit landowners in high risk bushfire areas to undertake vegetation clearing on their own land to reduce the risk of bush fire. Within these areas, the new laws override Council’s Tree Preservation Order (subject to compliance with the 10/50 Code of Practice). As of 27 November 2014, the RFS has reduced the entitlement area, effective immediately. Residents are advised to visit the RFS website to find out if the Code applies to their property. The RFS changes were in response to excessive removal of trees and vegetation and over 1,800 submissions received during the review period, which included Council’s submission.
