Jim Campbell: Rhythms of PerceptionMarch 21–June 15Educator-led public tours of the exhibition are held every Saturday and Sunday through June 15 at 1:30 and 3:00 p.m. Jim Campbell: Rhythms of Perception is the first solo museum exhibition in New York of the San Francisco-based artist Jim Campbell (b.1956), who is best known for his evocative low resolution works. This career-span-ning exhibition features over 20 works, ranging from early experimental film, interactive works, and low-resolution videos to large-scale instal-lations. An innovator in the use of technology, Campbell integrates and manipulates computers and custom electronics into visually arresting artworks. VERNON BLVD NABE NIGHTStart your walk on 50th Ave near Vernon, with (appropriately) A.R.T. @Open Door, then head next door to Dorian Café on the corner of Vernon and 50th for some “salt” photos. Heading north on Vernon, Modern Spac-es will be hosting large paintings, and nearby are photos at Testaccio’s. Across the street you will find panoramic images in Douglas Elliman Realty, and around the corner on 47th Rd, the Jesse Winter Retrospective is on view at the cute Ten10 Studios carriage house. Neon lights the next stop, giving you an opportunity to peek into one of the many residences along Vernon [47th Ave]. Further up the Blvd, pop into Matted LIC, then cross over for a slice and old-world charm at Manducatis Rustica while you drink in art. Taking a walk towards the river, get an amazing view from the 8th floor of the brand new TFCornerstone apartments, where there are 5 solo shows in gallery-like apartments overlooking Manhat-tan. Head back to Vernon Blvd via 5-25 46th Ave for The Crew’s Open-ing, then back on Vernon, where Evandro Tech Motors once again has cleared out their vintage cars to show the vintage car photos and other amazing works of LIC’s living legend, Tony Vaccaro. While there, experi-ence a glimpse and taste of Peru. He was a resident of Queens for more than 45 years, and in that time contributed works that can only be described as masterpieces. The greatness of Paul’s work wasn’t appreciated while he lived, but this exhibition aims to change that. It is time for us to give him his due, and the easiest way we can do that is simply by looking. After all, he left us so much to see.

DONNA LEVINSTONECITY AS LANDSCAPESince I moved my studio to Long Island City, I have become more aware of how buildings may be construed the same way as my mountain-scapes and tree lined horizons. Mountains fade into the distant mist in a landscape; buildings fade into the distant mist in a cityscape. LIC offers spectacular skies, as it is not yet overdeveloped. For this exhibit, I have tried to capture the beauty of these skies in both black and white and color pastel. TOSHIAKO NOBAMy work is inspired by things that show the passage of time and their histories with external stimulus such as layers in canyons accumulated and exposed over many years, weathered abandoned buildings, repasted and faded advertisement posters on city walls, a squashed can in a road, layers of paint peeling off of a wall, and so on. These visual encounters influence my aesthetic sense and concepts in my work. On your way back to Court Sq, educate your wine pallet see what LICArtists have done to the storage spaces, then educate your wine palate as you take in the multi-media event at SquareWine & Spirits. Cross 23rd St to the historic block of 45th Ave, where InSite Design Studio hosts a colorful, powerful photography show not to be missed! If you head up along Northern Blvd, Material for the Arts will highlight their Spring Artist in Residence, COFFEED hosts Pop Culture Pop Up Art & Shop, and Aurora Gallery presents a group show in their beautiful gallery/event space. Heading north on 27th St from Queens Plaza, the lovely Resobox hosts a solo and interactive show. Crescent Grill’s Dougherty Gallery presents 2 solo shows, and local artist Castelan has not only curated a socially engaged show, he has personally engaged with Space Gallery by creating a site-specific mural within it! BERNARD KLEVICKASMFTA Spring Artist in ResidenceReception May 16 // 6-8pmMaterials for the Arts welcomes our new artist-in-residence BERNARD KLEVICKAS. Klevickas’ work involves taking apart discarded objects made from plastic, metal, styrofoam and more. He then reassembles those materials into large patchwork sculptures composed of dynamic “quilts” of different materials and colors that remind us to rethink the things we put into the waste stream every day. Materials for the Arts, a unit of the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, collects thousands of tons of materials from the industries of New York and donates them, for free, to non-profit arts organizations, schools, and community centers.

QNMF: Composers ConcordanceMay 18 // 2pm Composers Concordance is a presenting organization for contemporary music with a 31-year-history of producing concerts in New York City. They strive to present music in innovative ways, with an emphasis on thematic programming. For their Queens New Music Festival perfor-mance, Comp Cord Ensemble will be joined by Bill Schimmel – accor-dion, Demetrius Spaneas – soprano sax, Damien Bassman – drums, and Jacob Miller – poet/narrator. The program will feature music of each composer/performer. Each of the compositions was written for this par-ticular ensemble, and highlights the performers’ abilities, while giving the composers a unique opportunity to write for an unusual, mixed-instrumental combination.
