Story Time @ Phinney During their initial planning session for the 2010-2011 school year, the members of the Teen Advisory Group (TAG Team) decided the promotion and encouragement of reading needed to be add to their goals for the year. One of the ways they wanted to achieve this goal was by going to one of the elementary schools and reading to the students. On October 28th, a total of 11 Teen Advisory Group (TAG Team) members traveled to Phinney Elementary School to read Fall and Halloween stories to the students during their library time. As the elementary students entered the library, they were surprised to find “big kids” scattered around the room waiting to share a story with them. The elementary students were placed in small groups of 3 to 4 and rotated between the TAG Team members. Students heard 2 to 3 stories during their library time. Along with reading the stories, the TAG Team members also asked questions at the beginning, middle and end of the story to help students with their comprehension and prediction skills. Some of the stories enjoyed by students throughout the day were Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper, A Very Brave Witch by Alison McGhee and Let It Fall by Maryann Cocca-Leffler. • New laptop carts and computers arrived at the high school. The new computers were available for checkout the last week of October. Watch the LHS Library Blog for student comments on the new computers.

• Mrs. Wilcox’s Spanish students obtained books related to the culture or written by Latino authors for their book project.

• Ms. Lehman attended the Kansas Association of School Librarians Conference in Junction City and came back excited about using more technology with the students at LHS. She is also looking forward to collaborating more with the classroom teachers.

• Work on the genre reclassification came to a stand still, but plans are being made to resume in November. Book Bundles were also delayed, and will be ready for check out in November.

• Coming in November--Scholastic Book Fair, November 17-24 @ the LHS Library - Community Day on Nov. 22nd 1-5pm

Story Time continued...Although the TAG Team members were split into a morning group and an afternoon group, all members expressed their surprise at how exhausted they were after completing their session with the elementary students. However, they also all expressed an eagerness to "do it again" in the future.
