2 Safety information Sirona Dental Systems GmbH2.3 On-site installation Operating Instructions C4+

2.3 On-site installation

The on-site installation must have been performed according to our requirements. The details are described in the document "Installation Requirements".

2.4 Installing the treatment center

Installation must be carried out by authorized techni-cians in accordance with the installation instructions.

2.5 Media quality

The air and water supplies must meet the requirements specified in the installation conditions.

To ensure compliance with the medical and national legal requirements for water from treatment centers, Sirona recommends equipping the treatment center with a disinfection system. If you decide to operate the treat-ment center without a disinfection system, you must make alternative arrangements to ensure good water quality.

As the owner of the treatment center, you are gener-ally responsible for the water quality.

The colony count must fulfill the national regulations for drinking water and must not exceed 500 CFU/ml under any circumstances (CFU: colony forming unit).

In the event of an increased colony count, the indoor installation must be checked and the cause of contami-nation eliminated. Alternatively, a stand-alone water supply can also be installed.

Before installation of the treatment center, an acceptable microbiological water quality for the domestic water sup-ply must be ensured and documented in the form of a colony count. Sampling and the colony count must be performed by a competent laboratory.

Check the treatment center water quality at regular inter-vals; see "Microbiological inspection of the water" in the document "Care and Cleaning by the Practice Team". Please contact your specialized dealer or your relevant dental association for the respective national require-ments and measures. Where necessary, you must make alternative arrangements to ensure good water quality if you decide to operate the treatment center without a dis-infection system.

Further information on the media quality requirements are listed in the "Installation conditions" document.

Highly immunosuppressed patients should not come in contact with water from the treatment center. The use of sterile solutions is recommended.

Sirona Dental Systems GmbH 2 Safety information Operating Instructions C4+ 2.6 Connection to the public drinking water system

2.6 Connection to the public drinking water systemConnection to the public drinking water systemFree discharge for option without disinfection systemreatment center with separation of the public drinking water supply

Provided it is equipped with a disinfection system, the treatment center fulfills the requirements of EN 1717 (free outlet with sections ≥ 20 mm) and the German Gas and Water Association (DVGW). It is intrinsically safe in accordance with worksheet W540 and therefore also ful-fills the W270 requirements as well as the requirements for plastics used in the transport of drinking water. It can be connected directly to the public drinking water sys-tem.

The treatment center therefore also bears the symbol for the German Gas and Water Association (DVGW) along with the rating plate.

Treatment center without separation to the public drinking water supply

If compliance with EN 1717 is stipulated at a national level, appropriate equipment must be installed beyond the treatment center to protect the public drinking water system.

This applies to device versions without a disinfection system.

The treatment center then does not bear the symbol for the German Gas and Water Association (DVGW).

Please always adhere to the national requirements with regard to connecting treatment centers to the public drinking water supply.

2.7 Maintenance and repairMaintenance and repair

Authorized technical personnel and spare parts As manufacturers of dental medical units and in the interest of the operational safety of your system, we stress the importance of having maintenance and repair of this unit performed only by ourselves or by agencies expressly authorized by us. Furthermore, failed compo-nents must always be replaced with original spare parts.

We suggest that you request a certificate showing the nature and extent of the work performed from those who carry out such work; it must contain any changes in rated parameters or working ranges (if applicable), as well as the date, the name of the company and a signature.

Maintenance intervals Despite the outstanding quality of your treatment center and regular care by the practice team, in the interest of operational safety, it is essential to have preventive maintenance performed at scheduled intervals.

2 Safety information Sirona Dental Systems GmbH2.8 Trouble-free operation Operating Instructions C4+

59 06 313 D 338214 D 3382.201.01.19.02

In order to ensure the operational safety and reliability of your treatment center and to avoid damage due to natu-ral wear, you as the system owner must have your sys-tem checked regularly by an authorized service engineer from your dental depot. Furthermore, safety checks must be performed. Please contact your dental depot to obtain a maintenance offer. For further information, see "Maintenance" on page 121.

2.8 Trouble-free operationTrouble-free operationUse of this unit is permissible only if it works properly without malfunctions. If trouble-free operation cannot be ensured, the unit must be taken out of service, checked by authorized technicians for malfunctions and, if neces-sary, repaired.

2.9 Vacuum system

The suction removal of aluminum and other metal oxides from blasting devices via the amalgam separator and the automatic separator installed in the treatment center is prohibited! This would cause extreme wear and clogging of the suction and water paths.

A separate vacuum system must be used in connection with metal oxide blasting devices. Treatment centers equipped with a central wet suction system are generally suitable for suction removal of the above material. How-ever, make sure to observe the instructions provided by the manufacturer of your vacuum system.

No restrictions apply when using salt blasting devices in connection with Sirona treatment centers. However, in such cases, make sure that the system is subsequently flushed with an adequate amount of water.

2.10 Patient chairPatient chairPlease observe the patient chair's maximum load capac-ity of 135 kg.

The weight distribution complies with ISO 6875. The mechanical stability test is performed with a multiple safety factor according to IEC 60601-1.

The maximum permissible weight of accessories mounted on the patient chair is 5 kg.

The patient’s arms and legs must be resting on the upholstery of the chair.

2.11 Intermittent operationIntermittent operationThe motors of the treatment center and of the treatment instruments are designed for intermittent operation cor-responding to the dental mode of treatment.Drive motors for patient chair and backrest: max. 6% duty cycle (15 s "ON"/3 min, 55 s "OFF")Other motors: Intermittent operation, max. 10% duty cycle (max. 2 min "ON"/18 min "OFF")

Sirona Dental Systems GmbH 2 Safety information Operating Instructions C4+ 2.12 Ventilation slots

2.12 Ventilation slotsVentilation slots

Under no circumstances may the ventilation slots on the unit be covered, since otherwise the air circulation will be obstructed. This can cause the unit to overheat.

Do not spray liquids such as disinfectants into the venti-lation slots. This may lead to malfunctions. Use only wipe disinfection in the vicinity of the ventilation slots.

2.13 Care, cleaning agents, and disinfectants

Unsuitable care and cleaning agents and disinfectants may corrode the surface of the unit or impair its function-ing.

Therefore, use only care and cleaning agents and disin-fectants which have been approved by Sirona. For fur-ther information, see the document "Care, cleaning agents, and disinfectants", REF 59 70 905.

2.14 Modifications and extensions of the systemModifications and extensions of the system

Modifications to this system which might affect the safety of the system owner, patients or other persons are pro-hibited by law.

For reasons of product safety, this product may be oper-ated only with original Sirona accessories or third-party accessories expressly approved by Sirona. The user assumes the risk of using non-approved accessories.

If any devices not approved by Sirona are connected, they must comply with the applicable standards, e.g.:

• IEC 60950-1 for information technology equipment (e.g. PC) and

• IEC 60601-1 for medical electrical equipment.

The treatment center monitor must fulfill the require-ments of the IEC 60950-1 standard.

The loudspeaker port of the monitor may only be con-nected to a device that complies with IEC 60950-1 (e.g. a PC) or IEC 60601-1. Under no circumstances may it be connected to a stereo system or similar.

If a system is created during the installation process, the requirements of IEC 60601-1, 3rd edition, must be ful-filled. The system author assumes responsibility for con-formity of the system with 93/42/EEC Directive.

2 Safety information Sirona Dental Systems GmbH2.15 Electromagnetic compatibility Operating Instructions C4+

2.15 Electromagnetic compatibilityElectromagnetic compatibility

Medical electrical equipment is subject to special pre-cautionary measures with regard to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). They must be installed and oper-ated as specified in the document "Installation Require-ments".

Portable and mobile RF communications equipment may interfere with medical electrical equipment. There-fore, the use of such devices (e.g. cellular phones) in practice or hospital environments must be prohibited.

Operating an RF surgical device

Treatment with RF surgical devices creates strong elec-tromagnetic fields, which may impact other electronic devices. Do not place external RF surgical devices on the shelf space of the treatment center and do not guide the RF handpiece cable over this. Electromagnetic dis-turbances can often be reduced, if the external RF sur-gical device is operated with a neutral electrode.

Video system

Electromagnetic disturbances in the environment of the treatment center may result in reduced image quality. In such cases, it is advisable to repeat the exposure before saving the image.

In case of line voltage drops, image data stored in the video camera may be lost. Deposit the camera and repeat the exposure.

Image artifacts may possibly occur as a result of radio-frequency interference caused by the transmitters of e.g. radio services or radio amateurs.

Wireless foot control

The wireless foot control may interfere with other devices in the same frequency band (2.4 GHz) or receive interfering signals from them. The safe condition of the treatment center is guaranteed even if the wireless transmission is compromised.

2.16 Influencing of cardiac pacemakers

The treatment center contains strong magnets. These magnets can affect cardiac pacemakers implanted in patients, users and technical personnel.

Therefore, please observe the safety information on pages 41, 44 and 81.

2.17 Dismantling / InstallationDismantling / InstallationFollow the installation instructions

When dismantling and reinstalling the unit, proceed according to the installation instructions for new installa-tion in order to guarantee its proper functioning and sta-bility.

Sirona Dental Systems GmbH 5 Putting the system into operation Operating Instructions C4+

5 Putting the system into operation

Initial startup

The disinfection system adds a disinfectant to the water (1:100) to reduce the formation of microorganisms in the water system significantly.

Prior to initial startup of your treatment center, sanita-tion must be performed.

If, upon agreement with you, the service engineer did not complete the sanitation procedure after installing your treatment center, or if sanitation has not been performed for over a week, please perform the sanitation yourself. Refer to the document "Care and Cleaning by the Practice Team" for more information.

Sanitation takes approx. 24 hours.

Main switch

Switch the main switch ON (I ).

During power-up, the treatment center automatically performs a self-test.

NOTICEFor safety reasons, always switch the treatment center OFF (O) after consulting hours. This cuts off the air and water supply as well as the line voltage.

Operational readiness

After the end of the self-test, the message READY the time and the last user selected (A or B) appear on the display.

After the treatment center is switched on, the cursor is between the chair program keys 1 and 2. If a program LED is lit, then the chair was in a programmed position before the unit was switched off. If no program LED is lit, then the chair was in a non-programmed position before the unit was switched off.

The unit is now ready to operate.

8.3 MultiMotion headrest

Adjustment to patient's height

The headrest can be adjusted to the patient's height by pulling out or pushing in the headrest extension. This adjustment is usually required at the beginning of treat-ment!

IMPORTANTBefore positioning the patient on the headrest, make sure that the head support has been optimally adjusted to the patient's height. This simplifies all subsequent work with the MultiMotion considerably, since readjust-ment to the patient's height can thus be omitted when changing over from mandibular to maxillary treatment.

The MultiMotion enables you to adjust the patient's head in a way that optimally supports viewing of areas of the mouth which are difficult to access.

Adjustment of hyperextension

Mandibular position

The mandibular position can be set by pulling the oper-ating handle (A). The anatomical movement of the arched extension keeps the patient's head in the sup-port.

Pull the headrest out of the guide by pulling handle A.

Tip: You can reduce the adjustment noise by pressing release A.

9.7 Saving the instrument programs

The factory-set instrument programs can be changed individually by user A and user B.

Select the corresponding user, i.e. A or B, pick up an instrument and set it according to your wishes.

Example for electric motor:

• 40,000 rpm

• CW rotation

• with cooling spray

• with instrument light

To save the settings, press and hold key A/B (approx. 3 s). An audible signal sounds. These settings are then activated whenever the instrument is picked up.

You cannot switch between the two users after pick-ing up an instrument.

IMPORTANTIf counterclockwise rotation was programmed, the motor is reset to clockwise rotation after you switch the treat-ment center off and back on.

9.8 Placing treatment instruments in their holders

A ball stopper for an unoccupied instrument holder comes with the dentist element.

Plug the ball stopper (1) into the unoccupied instrument holder to prevent a treatment instrument from being placed inadvertently in this holder.

To block further unoccupied instrument holders, you can order more ball stoppers (REF 58 99 575).

We recommend the APURGE function in the following cases:

• APURGE function at the beginning and end of each workday:

A complete purge cycle is performed following acti-vation. The instruments remain in the sanitation bowl and the treatment center can be switched off. On the next day, the APURGE function is automati-cally performed again on all of the instruments re-maining in the sanitation bowl as well as on the tum-bler filling unit immediately after the treatment center is switched on. Then you can prepare the treatment center for daily practice operation.

• APURGE function after longer periods of disuse:

A complete purge cycle is performed following acti-vation. The instruments remain in the sanitation bowl and the treatment center can be switched off. Now you can switch on the treatment center briefly every day and then switch it off again after the purg-ing process.

The assistant element can be swiveled to the side and to the front.

To do this, grasp the assistant element at the side of the instrument holder (1).

The ease of the swivel movement toward the front can be set with the knob (2).

CAUTION Make sure that the backrest does not collide with the as-sistant element if you have positioned the latter in the movement range of the backrest.

Also make sure that the assistant element is not posi-tioned above the patient when the chair moves upward (on contact with the patient, a safety switch stops the movement).

12.2 Instrument tray for closed deposits

The process of removing the instrument holder with closed suction handpiece holders is described in the document "Care and Cleaning by the Practice Team".

DANGERThe suction handpieces contain magnets. If a suction handpiece should make bodily contact in the proximity of a cardiac pacemaker, this may interfere with the function-ing of the cardiac pacemaker.

You should therefore avoid using the suction handpiece near cardiac pacemakers.

Furthermore, direct contact between the suction hand-pieces and magnetic cards can lead to data loss.

Suction handpieces with integrated magnets are marked with the following symbol:

Sirona Dental Systems GmbH 16 Maintenance Operating Instructions C4+

16 Maintenance

Despite the outstanding quality of your treatment center, it is necessary to perform inspections and preventive maintenance as well as safety tests at scheduled inter-vals in order to ensure its operational safety.

These events are documented in the Maintenance Man-ual.

Care and cleaning is done by the practice team.

For details please refer to the following sections.

16.1 Care and cleaning instructions for the practice team

The practice team is responsible for regular cleaning and care of the treatment center, with the aim of minimiz-ing the risk of contamination for patients and users.

The work to be performed is specified in the document "Care and Cleaning by the Practice Team".

16.2 Inspection and maintenance

In order to ensure the operational safety and reliability of your treatment center and to avoid damage due to natu-ral wear, annual inspection and maintenance must be performed on your treatment center. This is done by an authorized service engineer from your dental depot.

As soon as the next maintenance date is less than 30 days away, the maintenance prompt automatically appears on the display each time the unit is switched on.

You should now contact your dental depot and make an appointment.

After the maintenance date has expired, the following message is displayed:

MAINTENANCE required

The steps to be performed as well as the parts which must be replaced are specified in the document "Main-tenance Certificate".

An overview of the inspection and maintenance work performed is additionally recorded by the service engi-neer in the "Installation Report / Warranty Passport". This document is part of the "Maintenance Manual".

16 Maintenance Sirona Dental Systems GmbH16.3 Safety checks Operating Instructions C4+

16.3 Safety checks

Medical equipment is designed in such a way that the first occurrence of a fault does not create a hazard to the safety of patients, users or other persons. Hence it is important to detect such faults before a second fault occurs, which might then lead to safety hazards.

For that reason it is essential to perform safety tests every 2 years which aim particularly at detecting electri-cal faults (e.g. isolation defects). This is done by an authorized service engineer from your dental depot, most practically together with the work to be performed according to section 16.2.

The check includes a visual inspection as well as mea-surements of the protective ground wire connections and the equivalent leakage currents.

The inspections and measurements to be performed are specified in the "Maintenance Manual". The measured values must be documented there by the service engi-neer.

Safety tests must also be performed and documented during initial startup, after extensions / upgrades (con-version) of your treatment center and after repair work which might affect the electrical safety of the system.

WARNINGThe treatment center must not be operated if it has failed to pass the safety tests!

16.4 Maintenance Manual

Keep this document near your treatment center.

The service engineer documents all inspection and maintenance activities, as well as safety checks, in the Maintenance Manual. We recommend that users always keep section "Reporting incidents to authorities / manufacturers" up to date, irrespective of any legal requirements that may apply.
