What you must learnIdentify the products used in a make-up application

Eye make-up remover: Oil-free is most commonly used as it doesn’t leave any greasiness in the area, oil-based is suitable for removing waterproof eye make-up.

Cleanser: Can include creams, oils, washes, used to remove make-up and dirt from the skin.

Toner: Some may include alcohol to remove excess oil from the skin, they also rebalance the skin’s pH and may have a hydrating effect, used after cleansing.

Moisturiser: Applied to the skin to prevent moisture loss and acts as a barrier and base for make-up.

Tinted moisturisers or BB cream: Most suited to skin type.

Foundation: Comes in different forms: liquids, creams, solid, cakes, mousse, tinted gels/moisturisers for different skin types to cover blemishes and even out skin tone.

Concealer: Thicker than foundation and more heavily pigmented for better coverage, can be used for shadows under eyes, blemishes, birth marks and broken capillaries.

Loose powder: Used to set make-up and to absorb oil from the foundation and from the skin, leaving a dry, matt surface for further make-up application.

Blusher: Adds warmth to make-up, helps define facial contours.

Eye-shadow: Used to emphasise the eyes by adding colour.

Eyebrow pencil: Used to define the eyebrows.

Eye-pencil/Liquid eye-liner: Used to line the eyes and make them stand out, dependent on fashion trends.
