Length• Length measures how long, tall, and wide an object is.
• Objects that have approximate length, height, or width use these types of units:
Centimeter – insect, macaroniInch – crayon, fingersFoot – people, buildings, treesYard – carpet, fabric
• We use rulers, tape measurers, and yard sticks to measure objects’ length.

Weight• Weight measures how heavy or light an object is.
• Objects that have an appropriate weight use these type of units:
Gram – feather, sheet of paper, raindropOunce – pencil, pen, potato chipPound – person, flour, vegetables, fruit
• We use a scale or a balance beam to measure objects’ weight.

Capacity• Capacity measures much an object can hold.
• Objects that have approximate capacity use these type of units:
Cup – milk, beans, noodlesPint – juice, whipping creamQuart – ice cream, oil for the carGallon – water, gasoline
• We use measuring cups and measuring containers to measure objects’ capacity.
