It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening with several musical interludes from the choir and Studio Time – both groups singing beautifully. The closing song, Strength by Studio Time and the choir accompanied the 2015 slide show for a wonderful finale. Of course the most delightful part of the evening is seeing the smiles on the faces of students as crossed the stage. Students were recognised for their outstanding academic achievement but most importantly their personal effort in all class activities, external competitions, performing arts and sport. My sincere congratulations go to all students, not only those who received awards but to the many students who attended the ceremony and congratulated their friends and siblings. MPS students have worked hard and should be proud of their efforts. Year 6 student, Codie Gainey deserves our hearty congratulations – joining a proud MPS Alumni, as 2015 Dux. Likewise, congratulations to Harper Giles for his award of most outstanding Infants student. Congratulations to our 2015 student leaders, Amelya Brooks, Rhys Devney, Abby Newton, Fraser Westley, Natalija Stanojevic, Lincoln McNair, Evie Smith and David Stewart who led the ceremony brilliantly. Many, many parents and community members commented that the ceremony was enjoyable and well organised. I also take this opportunity to thank all MPS staff for their participation in the ceremony and enthusiasm throughout 2015. Teachers and support staff feel tremendous pride and joy celebrating the achievements of their students, not only at the ceremony but with all of the great things that happen throughout the year. Reading and decoding new words, learning to spell a difficult word, solving a tricky mathematics problem, creating a colourful and unique piece of art work – there are literally millions of moments to celebrate. Moree Public School is fortunate to have an enthusiastic team of student leaders in 2015. As their time at our school draws to a close, I would like to thank them for their outstanding contribution. They have done an exceptional job as ambassadors for Moree Public School and have undertaken every task asked of them with diligence, confidence and appropriate sense of occasion. Congratulations to our 2016 student leaders. I am confident this team will maintain the strong leadership traditions and represent our school with distinction. Our leaders are: Captains - Lucy Carter and Mac Orr (absent for photo) Vice Captains - Kiara Jonhson and Harry Hardman Prefects - Elyne Tighe, Shelby Thompson-Graham, Skye Carroll and Johnte Boughton Student Mediators – priceless gems! Our departing 2015 Year 6 mediators have proven to be excellent role models, supporting their peers and assisting staff in a range of endeavours. We thank them all for their time and effort - Abby Newton, Holly Van Vegchel, Amelya Brooks, Chloe Brazel, Lincoln McNair, Evie Smith, Rhys Devney and Natalija Stanojevic. Tuesday, 15 December 2015

LET’S CELEBRATE

Thank you to everyone who attended our presentation ceremony last Thursday evening. The closing song, Strength by Studio Time and the choir accompanied the 2015 slide show for a wonderful finale. Congratulations to Luke Hardman and Thomas Marchant (above) for earning the Stan Hollands’ Memorial Award for 2015 and also to the recipients of major awards donated by Lions, Rotary, Day and Evening View Clubs, CWA and P&C.

Farewelling Year 6 will always be a time to remember and reminisce! The Year 6 farewell will be held in the new hall commencing at 6:00 pm with a formal presentation and finger food for guests. Of course, Year 6 students and their teachers will have a variety of emotions as their time together at our school comes to a close. Teachers have been impressed by the way in which students have involved themselves in the many facets of school life. In the classroom, on the sporting fields, as leaders and in the performing arts, students have taken advantage of the vast range of opportunities that have been available. Year 6 students will have many fond memories of their friends and teachers to look back on. Their teachers have confidence in students’ ability to succeed in high school and urge everyone to continue to work hard and do their best. High school does require the next level of personal commitment and organisation. You can do it, Year 6! The farewell ceremony will be followed by a disco for students in Years 3-6, beginning at 7:30 pm and concluding at 9:00 pm. Students must be personally collected from the hall by an adult. Infants children will be able to enjoy a disco on Wednesday evening, commencing at 6.00pm and concluding at 7.30pm. MSC Transition program concluded last Wednesday when Year 6 participated in a full day of transition at activities at the Multi-Purpose Centre. The day was an opportunity for students to meet new friends from other schools who will also be attending Moree Secondary College in 2016.

Student Reports were sent home yesterday and should have arrived unopened, addressed to parents. Please take time to read the reports with your child and discuss the positive aspects of achievement and effort but also importantly, about opportunities for improvement and goals for 2016. As always, should you wish to speak with your class teacher, please contact the school office to arrange an appointment for a mutually convenient time. Dashing through the snow… Congratulations to the school choir for singing so well at the community Carols by Candlelight on Wednesday evening. We have received wonderful feedback from the community citing how beautifully the choir sang. Thank you to our choir students for being so committed and to the parents who deliver the children to these functions. Thank you also to the teacher, Miss March for teaching the students so many songs and of course, to our pianist, Mr Marty Roberts. By the end of next week’s performing arts concert, the choir will have performed on six formal occasions in the past two weeks. Well done everyone – your singing is certainly appreciated by a wide audience. A performing arts concert featuring all extra curricula groups (band, choir, several dance groups, didgeridoo, drumming and Studio Time) will be held next Monday, 14th December commencing at 6.00pm in the new hall. All parents and friends are most welcome to attend. The last day of school for students is Wednesday 16 December, with class parties being held on Tuesday, 15th December. Class party details regarding food items will be provided by each teacher but may I suggest, small contributions by all families will help avoid waste. While the parties are held outside in the shaded grounds, we do not have a lot of refrigeration space so perishables such as chocolate and dairy products should also be avoided. Children are invited to wear casual clothes but MUST be sunsafe (no spaghetti strap tops or clothing with inappropriate logos). Please ensure shoes that are suitable for outdoor games. An important reminder, that in the interests of those who may have allergies / anaphylaxis, foods containing nuts (or nut traces) and usually indicated on packaging, should be avoided. Your co-operation will be greatly appreciated.
