LESSON PLAN III

level.Basic Competence : Describing things, people,

characteristics, time, day, month and year.

Indicator : Describe things using the adjectives of colors, shapes, origin, size, amount and quality.

Time Allocation : 3 X 45 MinutesI. Objective : At the end of teaching learning

activities, students are able to describe things using the adjectives of colors, shapes, origin, size, amount and quality.

II. Teaching Material: :

What is Adjective?

An adjective is a word that describes a noun.example: The tall man went into the restaurant.

The word tall is an adjective. It describes the noun, man.

 List of Descriptive AdjectivesDescriptive adjectives can be divided into different categories such as colors, sizes, sound, taste, touch, shapes, qualities, time, personality and ages.

Colors are adjectives : black, blue, white, green, red Sizes : big, small, large, thin, thick

Shapes: triangular, round, square, circular

Qualities: good, bad,

Personality : happy, sad, angry, depressed

Time : Yearly , monthly, annually

Ages : new, young, old, brand-new, second-hand

Sound related Adjectives : loud, noisy, quiet, silent

Touch related Adjectives : slippery, sticky

Taste related Adjectives : juicy, sweet

Attributive and Predicative Adjectives

Read the following sentences loudly!

The old man is starring at the blue sea.

He bought two brown balls.

She had a beautiful smile.

Tina wears her new dress.

Her smile is beautiful.

Adjectives in the first position - before the noun - are called ATTRIBUTIVE

adjective. Those in the second position - after the noun - are called

PREDICATIVE adjectives. Notice that predicative adjectives do not occur

immediately after the noun.

Attributive only

There are some adjectives which can only be used before a noun, in the attributive position. For instance, we talk about the main problem but cannot say, the problem was main.

Adjectives which occur only in the attributive position are generally those which identify something as being of a particular type. For instance, we can talk about a financial decision where financial distinguishes this from other types of decision, e.g.: medical, political. These groups of adjectives are often referred to as classifying adjectives.

For example:

This is the main reason.* This reason is main. (ungrammatical)

This is the former president.* This president is former. (ungrammatical)

A chemical reaction. (Not, a reaction which was/is chemical)

The phonetic alphabet (Not, the alphabet is phonetic)

It was an indoor pool. (Not, the pool was indoor)

Predicative only

There are some adjectives which only usually occur in the predicative position, as complements of be or other link verbs. For instance, you can say “He felt glad”, but wouldn’t normally talk about a glad person.

Adjectives which usually occur in the predicative position include those which describe feelings, such as

afraid glad

ready

sure

sorry

upset

Example:

She felt afraid. (but not, an afraid girl)

My daughter is upset. (but not, my upset daughter)

They also include a group of adjectives with prefix a-, such as:

Asleep Alive

Alone

Ashamed

Awake

Aware

I like being alone. (But not, I like being an alone person) The baby’s asleep. (But not, the asleep baby)

III. Teaching Method:

Explanation

Excercise (worksheet)

IV. Teaching –Learning Process:

a. Warming Up

Teacher greets the students

Teacher calls their names one by one

b. Main Process

Teacher gives the primary question about the material.

Teacher gives some explanation about the material.

Students make sentences that are relevent to the topic by writing the sentence on the white board.

Teacher asks students to do excercise number 1 in 20 minutes.

Teacher collect the worksheet, checking the errors and give more explanation.

Continue the explanation and ask some students to do tasks on the white board.

Teacher ask students to do excecise number 2 in 20 minutes.

Collect the worksheet and continue to explain the material.

c. Closing

Teacher reviews the material given.

Greets the students
