Including Computer Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Ultrasound, X-Ray, Nuclear Imaging and PACS, global market for Medical Imaging Devices, estimated at US$30.2 billion in 2013 and forecast to be US$32.3 billion in 2014, is further projected to exceed US$49 billion by 2020, thereby maintaining a CAGR of about 7% between 2010 and 2020.

Trois segments composent ce marché: l’imagerie classique (radiographie, échographie), qui en représente 59% ; l’endoscopie (19%), et le segment des grands instruments (scanners X, IRM PET), pour 22%.

Globally, X-ray is the most frequently used imaging procedure with about 108 million X-ray exams per year. MRI is second with 26 million examinations per year. PET, SPECT, CT and nuclear medicine rank third with 30 million examinations per year.

GIA announces the release of a comprehensive global report on 3D Medical Imaging market. The global market for 3D Medical Imaging (software and workstations used in MRI and CT; and Ultrasound machines) is forecast to reach US$5.9 billion by the year 2017, primarily driven by the technological advancements, resulting in improved imaging equipment.

A growing market The global market for medical imaging is valued at about US$19 billion (excluding services, accessories and other addons), according to a report from InMedica. The company forecasts a global compound annual growth rate of 4 to 5% over the next five years. In today’s sluggish economy, this is solid growth, but it does not measure up to some of the newer medical device technologies—or even the recent past of the medical imaging industry itself.

The global diagnostic imaging market is expected to swell to $26.6 billion by 2016, driven by an aging population and advancements in the field. The imaging market, which stood at $20.7 billion in 2010… expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 4.2%... In 2010, X-ray constituted the largest percent of market share with around 34%, followed by ultrasound at 21%, CT scan with 19.5%, MRI with 18.5%, and nuclear medicine with 7%. America dominates the market with around 36.6% market share, followed by Europe with 27.3%, and Asia with 27%. GE, Philips, and Siemens constituted the majority of the market. Toshiba, Hitachi, and Hologic are gaining presences, according to analysts.
