It was announced at the August meeting that Fosco Picchi has volunteered to be the new Publications VP for the2019 term. Unless someone else wants to run for this position, Fosco will be the Editor of the Nuts and NotesNewsletter. I just want to say that it has been a priviledge to serve as your editor for the past 9 years. I am gratefulto all of you who have supplied me with photos, articles and support for each and every edition. I also appreciateyour trust in me to publish it every month. I hope my efforts were worthy. So, to all of you, I say Thank You. And toFosco, I say Thank You and Good Luck!
A great time was had by all that made the trek to 8,300 ft elevation in Lee Canyon. What a beautiful day and an impressive picnic area. They even have fully functional flushing toilets, looking forward to doing it again next year.
The Glidden Tour is upon us and we have two of our members heading to Twin Falls, Idaho. John M. and Dion - Happy touring to both of you. The VMCCA 38th Chrome Glidden Tour Will be held in Gonzales, TX March 31 - April 5, 2019, Preference is given to 1946-1994 vehicles -- Limited to 100 vehicles. The weather that time of the year should be great so mark you calendar and see you there.
I will be hosting Beatty Days for Max. So if you have any questions, email or call and I will get back to you. It looks like most everybody is going up for the weekend. I had Judy put the schedule of the activities in the newsletter taken from the Beatty Chamber’s website so you can plan your weekend around other activities other then just a car show.Looking forward to driving “The Beast” up there.
The November event has been changed to a car show at the VA Hospital in NLV. So if you're looking for something to do that weekend come out. The parking is covered and best of all there’s FREE food. Can’t beat that!

August was an eventful month for Jack and I. On the 18th I was invited to bring my 1966 Tatra 603 to Aero Books Auto Books in Burbank, California to display it with other rare Tatra cars during a book signing by Czech author Vladimir Cettl. He has put out a new book entitled Tatra Wrecks, in which he had photos of Tatras he has found that are, shall we say, distressed. All non operational with flowers, trees, and even animals growing inside and around them. It's very artsy. We had five Tatras present including mine. Jay Leno has a 1947 Tatra 87 and was invited to bring his. The day was hot and humid, so when he did show up, it was in a new Cadillac CTS coupe with the A/C going full blast. It was a small group of mostly Tatra owners and enthusiasts, so he stayed around for an hour and we all shared stories about our cars. He graciously joined us for photographs. After showing the cars, we drove through Griffith Park for lunch at Tam-O-Shanter a Los Angeles restaurant that is an institution since 1922. More good conversation and food, then we loaded up and back to Las Vegas. It was a long, but fun day.

Also in August, we went to Monterey, Calif. for two shows we really enjoy and love. Concours d Lemons in Seaside, and the fabulous Pebble Beach Concours d Elegance. The lemon show is so much fun. It started about 10 years ago by Alan Galbreth to celebrate the loveable losers of the car world. It is the total opposite of Pebble Beach, full of cars we have all made fun of. Worst of show was a 1977 Gremlin made into an Excallibur copy. Pacers, Gremlins, Pintos, Vegas, Edsels not to mention British, French, Italian, and even Japanese also rans. The next day, Sunday the 26th out to the show field at Pebble for a display of the best. This year 1948 Tucker was one of the featured marques, and 12 were present, more in one place since 1948 at the factory. It was a great weekend.

High Rollers Picnic - August 11, 2018
It was a beautiful day on Mt. Charleston and the picnic site was perfect. Thirty-four people came out to enjoy theday and the company of other members; not to mention the abundance of food. Our thanks to Tom and BettyRowlett for putting this event together with very short notice. (Photos by Danny Barnett)
