throughout this term and last term about moving forward. I have started the process to have a School Licenced canteen but this will take time. This means for at least all of this term you will need to ensure your child has a packed lunch. I am looking forward to a gradual return for students to school. Please keep updated from our Facebook and the Skoolbag app for changes in routines. If in doubt then please also call us at the school. I know you appreciate that some of the information we are provided with actually gets sent after it has been announced by the media. I thank you again for your support during this time. Please keep safe. I thank you for keeping up to date with us and engaged through unique circumstances. I will continually keep you updated through our Facebook page and the Skoolbag app. We are starting newsletters again and these will be handed out over the week when your child is rostered on. They will be put up on Skoolbag on the Monday and can also be viewed on the website - www.lakecargel-c.schools.nsw.edu.au. Also, I would like to acknowledge the P&C who have tirelessly tried to ensure the operation of our School Canteen over many years. Unfortunately, partly due to the pandemic, they have made the decision that the canteen is no longer viable. I appreciate all the work they have put into the canteen and tried everything to ensure it remains operational. Id also like to thank Anna and her team for their contribution to feeding our hungry students. WEEK 4 TERM 2 18th May 2020

Dear Parents and Caregivers I would like to first acknowledge everyone who has supported us throughout this very different time at Lake Cargelligo Central School. I thank you for keeping up to date with us and engaged through unique circumstances. I will continually keep you updated through our Facebook page and the Skoolbag app. We are starting newsletters again and these will be handed out over the week when your child is rostered on. Infants are back!

Infants are back in the classroom and into the swing of things.

Students have been revising their Alphasounds, writing stories and reading lots of picture books. They have enjoyed being able to participate in PMP with Mrs Morris and using the sensory path Miss Carly has painted.

Everyone is looking forward to being back full-time and starting the new phonics program.

If you have any questions regarding our transition back to school, please contact your child ’s teacher.

3-6: Returning to School Last week, Lake Cargelligo Central School began the welcome back to a little bit of normality.

We started our transition back to school with family groups. It is wonderful to see lots of smiling faces back at school, despite all the chaos that surrounds us at the moment.

Years 3-6 have been working on Learning at School Books during their transition back. They are getting back into some explicit learning in most areas. Students have started a new

spelling program called Soundwaves. They’ve also been diving deep into imaginative writing and number concepts.

Please check out some of the photos of the learning within 3-6 during their transition.

Aggie News

During the time of COVID-19, teachers working from home were required to have ‘projects’ to work on. Miss Ireland and Nat have been hard at work during this time, trying to get some things fixed up, installed and ready for when the students return. Some of the projects that we have completed are pictured. They included removal of original blackboards and installation of whiteboards in the sheds at the Ag plot. Nat constructed a shelving unit for the students’ work boots and gardening gloves for easier access and tidier storage. Miss Ireland and Nat concreted the base of the cattle crush to enable safer handling of animals and Miss Ireland and Alex concreted the original chook shed to enable a healthier environment for the chooks. Nat and Miss Ireland reinstalled the water trough, nest boxes and wood shavings on the floor and Nat built the chooks a new roost out of left over timber slats from the plant growing room. We permanently attached the crush to the completed concrete base and the cattle yards are now ready for some welding of gates/panels and they will be fully installed. Nat prepared the ground where the fruit trees were originally and under the olive trees and we have sown these two areas to Lucerne. As part of the Sustainable Schools grant we received Nat has completed the plant growing room ready for the students return and we plan on growing and selling seedlings along with growing seedlings for ourselves to plant. We used some of this funding to purchase a tool storage system, which Nat has installed along the wall of the tractor shed for all of our large gardening tools. This is to ensure safe storage and maintenance of the tools as well as the safety of the students when using them.

I have included some images of the crops the students sowed prior to COVID-19. Our field pea crop is being grown for the students in Primary Industries and Agriculture to mow and rake (by hand) and then bag in woolpacks and store as hay for the livestock. The other crop pictured is the oats/barley mixture crop that the Primary Industries students sowed. We are currently leaving this ungrazed and will be utilising this crop to graze off as our school sheep lamb in June/July.

We have some great things happening at the Ag plot and are looking forward to students seeing all the work Nat and myself have been completing during this time.

Year 7 Science

Year 7 Science had to design an animal as part of their Learning From Home Booklet. They had to design and draw this animal and then explain how it is suited to its environment. Some fantastic examples are below.

Mr Monshing

Building Number Sense using Dominoes

Guess Which Domino

Lay out a handful of dominoes face up.

Choose a secret domino. Give clues such as

the total number of dots, or clues about a

particular side. Remove dominoes that don’t

fit the description until the secret domino is

discovered.

Which is missing?

Take two dominos. Announce the total

number of dots and then show the child one

of the dominos. Ask how many dots must be

on the other domino. This activity can be

made harder by asking which combinations

of numbers could make the total number of

dots on the hidden domino.

Are you looking for additional tasks for

you children to complete? This link

provides a wide variety of ideas:
