October is National Principals Month!
“National Principals Month is your opportunity to say
“thank you” to principals everywhere and to share with
the community all the great things that principals do.
National Principals Month recognizes the essential role that
principals play in making a school great.
Principals are among the hardest working, yet often least
recognized individuals in education. Principals set the academic
tone for their schools, and it is their vision, dedication, and
determination that provide the mobilizing force for achieving
student success.”
We are thankful for our Principals, Mrs. Teresa Leija,
Lackland Elementary School Principal and Mrs. Stephanie
Mickey, Stacey Jr/Sr High School Principal.

Lady Eagles Volleyball Playoff Bound!
By: Matthew Knudsen, Freshman
The volleyball girls had a packed week with 3 games, all of which were fun to attend. The first game (October 14) was a home game against Hawkins. The JV
girls took a 2-0 win. They hustled hard throughout the whole game, not letting up until the victory was claimed. Although varsity lost 3-1, they never lost their
determination. The second game of the week (October 16) took place at Tilden. JV lost 2-0 and
varsity also lost 3-0. Against a hard opponent, the girls stood tall and played great. Sydni Dukes (#5), for the JV team, was consistently getting her serves over to help her team out. Rylie Dow (#7), of the varsity, also played a great game with
some very good hits and her form looking good as always. Finally, the last game of the week (October 20), took place here at Stacey, against Gervin. Only varsity played this game, and they played exceptionally well, beating
Gervin 3-0. Everybody played diligently, with nobody sticking out more than someone else. The girls played very well as a team.
After winning the game against Gervin, the varsity girls have made it to the playoffs!! Wish varsity luck in advancing through the playoffs. Stay tuned for the
first playoff game date.

This morning The San Antonio Public Library announced the Grand Opening of the new Low Vision Room. San Antonio artists created pieces that people
disabled or not can sense and enjoy by touch. Our elementary art teacher Mr. Garcia is proud to have
his art as part of this innovative and special concept.
His work will be at the Main Library for a year.

Welcome to Stacey!
Ms. Kellie Clark 7th Grade Reading / ELA Teacher
By: Sydni Dukes, Freshman
What was the scariest part of your first day teaching? My first day teaching was five years ago in Bronx, NY. I taught 7th grade that year, and had no idea what to expect. I was nervous that the students wouldn’t like me and that I wasn’t prepared enough. I was scared that parents would be able to tell how young I was and think that I wasn’t qualified to teach their child. In reality, when those 7th graders walked into my room with their own first day jitters, I knew I was going to be okay.
What has been one of the biggest accomplishments of your career so far? During my third year in the Bronx, I had a student in my 8th grade class who had lost all trust in teachers and had completely given up on school. In the past, he had teachers tell him that he was dumb and that he was never going to accomplish anything in life. He even had a teacher recommend that he drop out of school. Over the course of the year, I worked with him the most. He would stay after school for tutoring with me and we would talk about school and the hopes he had for his future. When he crossed the stage at our 8th grade moving up ceremony, I had tears in my eyes because I was so proud of him. He was moving on to a good high school and he had plans to go to college. His success wasn’t my accomplishment, I always look back on it as something that I am very proud to have been a part of.
Could you see yourself teaching another subject? No, I could not see myself teaching another subject at all. I love reading and I love writing and I love that I get to share that with my students each day. This is all I want to be doing.
What is the most difficult aspect of your career? The hardest part of my job is how much of it I bring home with me. I really care for my students, so when they are going through a tough time, I feel really badly for them. I worry about them even after I leave the school building, so it can be difficult for me to leave the work day behind.
How does Stacey differ from the previous schools you have worked at? I have taught at two other schools besides Stacey and I can’t explain in words how happy I am to be here this year. I feel like I’ve finally found the school I’ve been searching for. Unlike other schools, at Stacey I feel like I’m a part of a loving community of teachers, administrators, and staff all working together to best serve our students. Even though it’s really early in the school year, I feel like Stacey has become a second home for me and I’m very grateful to be here.

Welcome to Stacey!
Mrs. Ana Flores Special Education Teacher By: Nadine Tuazon, Junior
1. Where did you teach before, and how does Stacey compare to that school? I taught at Thomas Jefferson High School in the San Antonio Independent School District. Stacey is a smaller School/ District and has smaller class sizes. This is great when working with students who need the extra help.
2. Have you taught any other subjects? I am a Co-Teacher and have only co-taught in Algebra 1 and Geometry
3. What are some things you like to do in your free time? I love being around my baby! We play together, I read to he and we go over the alphabet, colors and numbers. When she is napping, I love to relax or just take a nap with her. I also like to watch movies and being around family.
4. What school did you go to? I graduated from Thomas Edison High School. Then I attended and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. “Go Longhorns”
5. Where did you grow up? I grew up here in San Antonio, Texas
6. What did you aspire to be when you were younger? I can honestly say that, I aspired to be a Doctor for females an “OBGYN.” Then as I got older and attended UT, I decided to become an Educator. I loved teaching others something that they were struggling with.
7. Can you tell us a bit about your family? I am the 8th child of 9 and the first to go to college and the first to graduate from college. My mother raised all 9 of us on her own. She worked hard to get us where we are. I am married to my best friend, who happens to be the brother of Coach Flores. My husband had 2 kids from a previous relationship and we have 1 child together. Our 2 older children are 9th graders at Alamo Heights High School and our baby is going to be 9 months on October 28, 2015.
8. What are your favorite things about being a teacher? My favorite thing about being an educator is when you see a child’s eyes light up when they have grasped and have realized that they are capable of doing something that was hard and know how to apply that method.
9. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be, and why? I would love to go back to Tenancingo, Mexico and see my family members, because I have not gone back to see them in 7 years.
