La artrosis es una enfermedad heterogénea de las articulaciones móviles que
se caracteriza por un estrés celular y una degradación de la matriz extracelular
del cartílago articular, iniciada por micro y macro-lesiones que activan
respuestas de reparación inadecuadas que incluyen rutas pro-inflamatorias de
inmunidad innata. La enfermedad (disease) se manifiesta, en primer lugar,
como un desorden molecular (metabolismo anormal del tejido) seguido de
desórdenes anatómicos y/o fisiológicos (degradación del cartílago,
remodelación ósea, formación de osteofitos, inflamación articular y pérdida de
la función normal de la articulación) que culmina con la manifestación
fenotípica de la enfermedad (illness)
