1st year M.Tech. classes of 2010 batch were inaugurated on
Wednesday the 11th August 2010. The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Dr. V. T.
Ranganathan, Professor, Indian Institute of Science, and it was presided over by
Br. Dhanraj Swami, Correspondent and Dr. Rakesh S.G., Associate Dean.
The M.Tech. Program on Power Electronics was inaugurated on this
occasion. The M. Tech. Programmes, VLSI, Embedded Systems and Power
Electronics were spoken about by the respective Coordinators Prof. Pukhraj Vaya,
Prof. Radhakrishnan and Dr. Manjula Nair.

The college celebrated Gurupoornima on 16th August 2010. Poojya
Swami Amritageetanandapuri presided on the auspicious occasion. He
enlightened the students about the significance of Gurupoornima. He also spoke
of the importance of Gurumantra. Offering reverence to Satguru Mata
Amritanandamayi Devi, a series of Bhajans were sung by a group led by Poojya
Swami. Prasadam was distributed to all who attended the celebration.

The seventh convocation of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was held
on August 28th 2010 at Ettimadai Campus for 3,392 graduates of five campuses -
Bangalore, Amritapuri, Mysore, Kochi and Coimbatore .
Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri declared open the Convocation and
said graduands should learn to avoid unintelligent attachment, learn to manage
ego and to tap higher realms of consciousness. Venkat Rangan, vice-chancellor,
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University, said in the past seven years, the
institution had won several funded projects from the Government of India and
was working with Indian Institutes of Technology as an equal partner.
Gururaj Deshpande, Chairman and Co-Founder of Sycamore
Networks, USA, was the chief guest. In his address to students he said “People
must innovate to find a new way of living and a new confident India would play an
important role in coming up with the Solution”. Martin Chalfie, winner of the
Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2008, delivered a special address through video
conferencing from Columbia University, New York.

ECI FORUM organized an address by Mr. Sunil Maheshwari, CEO-Mango
Technology on 4th August, 2010. He spoke about Mango Technology, India’s
most successful, innovative, young company which has bagged several
innovation awards in last few years. He offered ASE Bangalore a unique
opportunity to associate with Mango Technologies and a chance to contribute
to ‘Innovative Mobile Application Idea’ through a competition for ASE
Bangalore Students. The participants were students from ECE and EIE
branches and interested faculty from ECE department.

OTHER NEWS
ECI Forum organized a seminar on ‘Upcoming Trends in Wireless
Communication Technology’ on 11th August 2010. The seminar was presented
by Mr. S. Ramesh from Award Solutions. Mr. Ramesh is a Senior Network
Consultant responsible for imparting training on Cellular Technologies in India,
Middle East and Asia Pacific region. The seminar was conducted in E-learning
centre and beamed across all three campuses.

Mr. S. Satya Jagadish Marina joined as an Assistant Professor on 12th August
2010. He holds an M.Tech. degree in VLSI Design from IIT, Chennai.
A Maintenance Cell has been created in ECE Department to oversee the
maintenance of the equipments of the various labs of the Department.
Mrs. K. Deepa is the in-charge of this maintenance cell .

Dr. T. S. B. Sudarshan has reviewed a paper for the 2nd International
Conference on ‘Complexity, Information and Cyber Security’ to be held from
27th to 30th March 2011 at Orlando, Florida, USA.
Dr. T. S. B. Sudarshan has been invited to be a part of the technical programme
committee for the International Conference on “Advances in Computing and
Communications” (ACC20111), to be held from 22nd to 24th July 2011 at Kochi,
Kerala.
Dr. T. S. B. Sudarshan has been invited to be a part of the advisory committee
for the International Conference on “Computer Communications and Electrical
Technologies – 2011” to be held from 18th to 19th March 2011 at Tirunelveli,
TamilNadu.
Mr. Rajesh M. attended the ‘IBM WebSphere Day’ celebration organized by
IBM India held on 27th August 2010 at IBM Software Executive Briefing Center,
Bangalore.

Engineering.
Mrs. Amudha J. joined as Assistant Professor on 19th July
2010. She comes in with an M.E. in Computer Science and
Engineering and a teaching experience of over 12 years.
At present she is pursuing her Ph.D. under the guidance of
Dr. K.P.Soman in the area Visual Attention.
Mrs. Sasikala T. joined as Assistant Professor on 7th July
2010. She holds an M.E. Degree in Computer Science
and Engineering and an experience of over 7 years of
teaching .
Mr. Vinoth L. And Mr. Sreedharan Krishnan (7th semester students) have
attained patent registration for their work on the topic ‘Multi Secured
Dropping of Spoofed Packets at the Gateway for Unauthorized Networks’ from
The Patent and Trademarks Office.

A study model of a Windmill cum Solar PV Generating Unit has been installed in
the campus under DST-funded project supervised by Dr. Manjula G. Nair. This
model is going to greatly benefit the students doing research in the area of
renewable energy.

participated in the function organised to donate houses to the flood destitute of
Dongarampur village in Raichur from 1st to 6th August 2010. The team was
entrusted with responsibilities like accommodation-in-charge, inspection of built
houses, stage activities, felicitation and crowd control.

CISCO NETWORKING ACADEMY
Cisco Systems conducted an online competition NetRiders’10 on 18th August
2010. NetRiders is a global networking contest created by Cisco Networking
Academy. Among 100 teams that participated from all over India, 7 were from
Amrita, Bangalore campus. The team consisting of Saurab Rai, Anirudh M. and
G. S. Sai Kiran were in the top 10 positions and thus qualified for the next round
of the event. In the final round the team got to the top 3 positions and became
eligible to participate in the SAARC level competition to be held in September
2010.
Mr. Prakash Mari Muthu. K. was relieved from duties on 6th of August 2010 on
his resignation.
