Recent sediment sampling results

• Sediment sampling and analysis was carried out in the canal and adjoining drains / wetlands (link to sampling locations)

• The purpose of the sampling was:

– To baseline the canal prior to handing the project site to the contractors

– To ensure that contaminant levels within side drains and areas not previously investigated were below remediation targets

Sample Locations - West• Samples circled in red

are above remediation target of 60 pg I-TEQ/g

• These are in privately owned part of canal outside of project scope and MfE deed funded area

Actions proposed

• Some locations are outside of the scope of the consents and project funding deed

• Further sampling has been completed to define the extent of elevated contaminants –analysis underway

• Once defined, remediation or management options can be considered.

• Additional funds & approval of new consents will be required

• Land is not owned by BoPRC

• Containment of contaminant upstream of SH30 is required to ensure current project objectives are not compromised (e.g. re-contamination)

Actions proposed (cont.)

8

• Floodgates now in normal operation

• Discussions with landowners underway

• Project team considering alternative delivery approaches (e.g. east to west)
