SONGROOM CAMP

Last Thursday and Friday primary students went down to

the Songroom Music Camp. On Thursday we walked

down to the Youth Centre and we rotated activities. The

activities were drumming, body percussion, Aboriginal

dance, culture and drama. We got split up into 4 groups

A,B,C and D.

On Friday we got into our normal groups, the teacher’s

chose the groups out of a hat to teach for the

performance. Each group took two and a half hours of

practice for the performance. Then we watched the other

groups do their performances. After that the parents and

guardians came to watch the performance. We had fun

on those two days.

All Smiles from Tidy Towns Judges

On a sunny Wednesday last week, we had the

privilege of taking the Tidy Towns judges Fran and

Lyn around our school, as we have entered in the

‘Little Legends” category. First, we took the ladies to

the bush tucker garden, then to the sensory garden.

They were very impressed with the range of plants

we have in the garden. Then, we headed over to the

EWOKS garden. The amount of plants and

vegetables took them by surprise. Fran even

suggested a pizza oven for the garden! Next we

headed to Harry’s Garden, where we met up with

4/5B and KP who were doing buddy reading. The

judges were amazed by how much use we get out of

the garden. At the start of recess we joined the

captains, Mrs Larkman, Mrs Stewart and Mrs Hovey

at a lunch at the Mechanics Institute. The Singleton

Tidy Towns Committee were there, as well as some

of the council workers. It was a great way to

introduce Fran to Singleton. She said that Singleton

has a great community spirit when it comes to Tidy

Towns, and was impressed by the work the council

workers do.

Overall the day was a great success as both Fran

and Lyn saw the beauty in King Street.

Boys Cricket Team Continue Winning Run

Our boy’s cricket team put in another magic

performance last Friday with a convincing win over

Aberdeen. After making 2/52 the boys had their

opposition all out for 38 in 19 overs. With excellent

batting from Harvey and Harlan, and big hitting

again from Jack, the team was in good shape at the

changeover. The whole team then bowled and

fielded superbly to ensure a place in the next round.

Well done boys, and good luck in your next game.

YEAR 6 FUNDRAISER Year 6 will be running a Pie Drive fundraiser. Order forms will be sent home soon. We would appreciate your support.

Thanks Trish Maher

King Street welcomes Miss Dewhirst ‘Home’.

Kirsty Dewhirst was welcomed back to King Street last

week with many hugs from both students and staff. Miss

Dewhirst spent 2011 in Singleton, and taught a stage 2

class throughout that year. She was a valued and

popular teacher who brought so much both professionally

and personally to our school. After 2 weeks visiting

friends throughout the area, she spent Thursday and

Friday in the classrooms throughout King Street, and the

children all thoroughly enjoyed having her back, even for

such a short time.

We wish Kirsty all the best and a safe journey as she now

travels to Western Australia for more sightseeing, then

back home where she will begin her teaching year with a

year 2 (our year 1) class.

KP has all smiles for Miss Dewhirst

Speakers invited to Eisteddfod Highlights

Concert

Last Sunday Jude M, Josie B and Ella S were invited to

perform at the Hunter Eisteddfod Highlights concert. 6

items from the Drama and Speech section were chosen,

with our girls performing their duologue (Jude and Josie),

and their monologues (Josie and Ella). This is quite an

achievement to be chosen from all the great

performances. Congratulations girls.

Students Jump for Heart

Congratulations to all our students who so enthusiastically

participated in Jump Rope for Heart activities last

Wednesday. It was a fantastic, active afternoon with a lot

of healthy movement taking place. King Street children

have generously collected sponsorship of $2931.15 for

the Heart Foundation. Well done!

There was an agreement between the staff and students

that if over $1000 was raised there would be some

‘special’ entertainment. As a result of the outstanding

fundraising efforts, the children were ‘treated’ to a

wonderful rendition of ‘Song 2’ by Mr Upcroft and his

backing vocals. We are all very lucky they have chosen to

be (wonderful) teachers.

Thank you to families and friends for your support.

2013 SEMESTER 2 PARLIAMENTARIANS

inducted at our Friday morning assembly at 9.30am

Warm Welcome to Kindergarten 2014

Kindergarten enrolments are currently being taken

for 2014. We encourage all parents who have

children who are eligible to start school in 2014 to

please contact our office for an enrolment form.

Also, please advise any neighbours or friends who

have children of this age to contact the school.

Keeping Our Kids Safe

Thank you to all those parents and carers who

continue to use Sussex Street carefully when

dropping off and collecting their children. At King

Street it is of high importance to us that we keep all

your children safe.

We continue to have a few motorists who appear to

be unfamiliar with the RTA signage and laws, so we

ask all motorists to be particularly aware of the

following:

There is no parking in the School Drop

off/Pick up zone during the allocated ‘kiss

and drop’ times.

‘No Stopping’ signs indicate no stopping at

any time. These are generally in the more

high risk areas.

Motorists must not leave their car when

stopping in the School Drop off/Pick up zone.

The area immediately outside the

Kindergarten gate is not to be used to drop

off children. This is a ‘No Stopping’ area.

It is illegal to drop off or pick up children in

the middle of the road.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our

kids road safe.

King Street Values the Wellbeing of

our Students

Please be aware that we have an immuno-

suppressed student in our school.

If your child develops a contagious disease, please

let the school know ASAP so we can act

accordingly.

King Street is a Nut & Fish Free School

This is a reminder for all families that some of our students

have serious reactions to products containing nuts and fish.

We ask families to carefully consider the danger that others

could face if they touch or eat these products.

Please do not send foods or containers to school that

contain nut or fish products

REMINDER At King Street School we

have a policy endorsed by the WHS

Committee (Work, Health, and Safety)

that no animals are to be on school grounds.

The only exception would be if they are brought in

for “Show & Tell” and taken home immediately after

by parents. It has been noted that some parents are

bringing dogs to school with them when dropping

and collecting children. We would ask that these

parents cease this practice for the safety of the

children at our school.

Thank you
