Kanchipuram sarees and Dhoti: the exciting food and threads
Calicut, often called Kozhikode, is a town well known for its spices. A
number of nations have exchanged spices with several other cities in the
history of the universe that include the Jews, Arabs, Chinese, Dutch and
Portuguese. When the Portuguese traveler Vasco da Gama found Calicut
in 1498, there were a number of beaches, boats and a glimpse of
dolphins off the coast. The food of Calicut is heavily influenced by the
Arabic culinary arts.
Mouth watering food like Malabar biryani is well known and is one of
the several reasons people come all the way to the city. A part from all
the food, the men and women of Calicut are often seen
wearing Kanchipuram sarees and dhotis respectively. The Arabs are
often seen covered from head to toe and according to their customs are
not allowed to show any part of their body or head. Every country or
state has their own customs, languages and cuisines that distinguish
them from the others. There's a lot to learn about every country and
India is one of those nations that are worth a visit.
Religion is one of the most important details that separate people from
one another. In a nation like India, there are several religions like
Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, Jainism and Christianity. People
in India have their own values and beliefs that help them live each day
as it comes. The devotees from all over the world come to the holy
Ganges to wash their sins away. Every shrine or temple built in India has
a fascinating story behind it and every devotee visiting has heard the
enchanting stories several times. These devotees when sitting and
praying at the temples wear a simple white colored dhoti, wrapped
around their waist. The cloth relaxes the stomach muscles and allows the
body to sit in peace or roam around for hours without any discomfort.
Tourists from all over the country have been fascinated by the way the
south Indian eat their meals and are enchanted by the clothes and places
nested all around them. The Indian culture is different and stands out in
the crowd. The Kid's in schools have always studied about the Indian
history in great detail and have never once in their lives forgotten their
Indian roots. Every weaver when weaving the sarees or dhoti's, dip the
threads in gold and silver and then bind them together to make them one.
