At the Abu Dhabi Festival we have had to face and overcome monumental challenges to get where we are today. To conceptualise and establish such a varied, dynamic and extensive celebration of music, the arts and human endeavor, required enormous levels of belief, dedication, persistence, skill and determination. And the result is an annual festival that is the realisation of all that hard work – one that recognises that we are all the children of Zayed; one that expresses the unique identity of this great nation and one that reflects our Founding Father’s legacy, upholding the belief he had in his people, his vision for the UAE’s future, and his determination that made the impossible possible.

All of which makes the theme for 2019’s Festival entirely appropriate, for this year we celebrate the Culture of Determination and join the Special Olympic World Games Abu Dhabi. We celebrate the achievements of the inspirational ‘people of determination’ who carry the flame of insistent willpower, who face seemingly insurmountable challenges and achieve success through sheer resolve.

People of determination instill in us the passion to reach, to strive, and their achievements shine as examples of bravery and persistence. ABU DHABI FESTIVAL 2019Now in its 16th year, the Abu Dhabi Festival continues to be a beacon of cross-cultural understanding, empowering and inspiring humanity across the globe. For 2019, this incredible celebration of arts and culture features more than 100 events, 18 productions, two co-productions and two commissions across 25 venues, with an illustrious mix of artists and genres across Opera, Ballet, Orchestra, Jazz and Flamenco. Underscoring its commitment to championing global cultural exchange, creativity and innovation in the arts and furthering its symphony of global cultures, in 2019 the Festival will celebrate the Republic of Korea as its ‘Country of Honour’.

This year the Festival’s central theme is the ‘Culture of Determination’, as it joins forces with the Special Olympics World Games that are also taking place in the UAE capital during the month of March, in celebration of everyone who battles against the odds to make a positive impact on society. This theme is one each of us can relate to, and the brave Olympians who will be competing here are inspirational human beings whose drive and determination, in the face of often great adversity, should bring joy and hope to everyone.

Presenting more than 500 international artists from 17 different countries, and featuring masterpieces by 18 different composers, Abu Dhabi Festival 2019’s headline programme includes soulful performances by American mezzo-soprano, Joyce DiDonato with Orchestra il pomo d’oro, directed by Maxim Emelyanychev; Korea’s first professional ballet company, the Korean National Ballet; one of Korea’s leading theatre orchestras, the Korean Symphony Orchestra; award-winning American jazz piano extraordinaire, composer, producer, educator and Quincy Jones Artist, Justin Kauflin; Welsh bass-baritone, Sir Bryn Terfel; Sara Baras, considered one of the best flamenco dancers and choreographers in the world; and, to conclude the Festival, a performance by the oldest national ballet company, The Paris Opera Ballet, by George Balanchine.

The Festival will also host a compelling exhibition entitled Distant Prospects, presenting the history of European landscape painting from the world-renowned LIECHTENSTEIN. The Princely Collections, including permanent loans from The Hohenbuchau Collection and other private collections. Exhibited for the first time in the Middle East, these artworks – some of the world’s most important – survey the history of landscape painting over the course of several centuries and the exhibition will feature key figures in the Late Renaissance and Baroque artistic movements.

Parallel to the exhibition, an engaging educational programme will inspire visitors with panel discussions, guided tours and creative workshops. Extending the programme further afield, a specially designed residency will offer a unique experience for five practicing Emirati artists who will be given the opportunity to visit Vaduz and Vienna through a diverse itinerary of cultural engagements.

In line with its legacy to champion culture in all its forms, the Festival will also recognise outstanding achievements in the music industry by prolific musical pioneers through the Abu Dhabi Festival Awards. This year’s recipients include Joyce DiDonato, in recognition of her life long contribution to music; Aurélie Dupont, for her outstanding devotion to the art of ballet; Barenboim – Said Akademie, for its commitment to building bridges through arts and culture; and the late Ousha bint Khalifa Al Sweidi in honour of her exceptional contributions to Emirati poetry.

JUSTIN KAUFLIN IN CONCERT'Coming Home'Monday 11 March, 2019The Black Box, The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi

Home is where you hang your hat, or so the old adage goes. For Justin Kauflin, critically acclaimed and accomplished jazz pianist and composer, the past few years home has been many places. Originally from Virginia, Kauflin’s touring schedule has taken him across the nation and abroad, expanding and growing the idea of ‘home’. Kauflin lost his sight when he was 11-years old, but his travels are still a visual experience. Through the sounds and feelings of a city or space, he can see vibrant and captivating scenes of moving psychedelic colours. And on his latest album, Kauflin invites others to experience the world from his perspective as he sonically paints the homes he has found throughout his global travels.

Coming Home is Kauflins’s third release, and second with the tastemaker imprint Qwest Records. With this release he ventures into new sonic territory, bringing in more modern influences of synths, electric guitar and bass. Kauflin said: “I’ve always loved music that had a good groove to it, whether it was swing or funk. With Corey Fonville’s help, we got into all sorts of great feeling grooves that I can’t wait to share.”

From the start, recording Coming Home was electric. Quincy Jones and Derrick Hodge produced the album at Jones’ infamous Westlake Studios (Michael Jackson, Madonna, Frank Ocean). Kauflin was joined by Chris Smith on acoustic and electric bass, Corey Fonville on drums and percussions, and Alan Parker on acoustic and electric guitar. The musicians had a blast bringing the album to life, as Kauflin recalls: “Derrick was in there with us bringing such positivity and encouragement. I feel as if I was able to be more authentically me because Derrick was there to give me that confidence. He was an incredible catalyst for much of how the songs took shape. And if that wasn’t enough, to have Quincy overseeing the proceedings and giving his guidance and experience brought everything together in such a beautiful way.”

The album’s 13 tracks resonate emotions and transport the listener across space and time. The lead single Coming Home opens the album and evokes Kauflin’s southern sensibilities. “This song serves as an invitation to join me

as I share how I experience the world around me through colours and vibrant ever-shifting textures and shapes,” he remarked. “Alan Parker’s acoustic guitar inserts that down home feeling from my home in Virginia.” Another standout track is Lost. About it Kauflin says: “As exciting as traveling the world has been, there have certainly been times when I’ve felt disconnected and out of my element. This is not just a feeling that is connected to where I am physically. This also delves into how I feel emotionally at times. Life itself can leave one feeling quite lost.”

The album also incudes an ode to his time spent living in Brooklyn, with the cover of John My Beloved. An impromptu on the spot session with Derrick Hodge created Somethin’ Somethin’. A tribute to Kauflin’s favourite food – fried chicken – is the basis for Country Fried, while Pendulum is about New York, and the feeling that, at times, it is the greatest place on earth, while at others it is overwhelming. About Strawberry Fields, which features as both solo and band-accompanied tracks, Kauflin says: “I’ve always found the idea of an imaginary place, where one can find refuge, to be incredibly attractive. It is such a perfect marriage of harmony and melody, and it conjures up this barely out of reach sensation, as if the place for which I’m looking is just right around the next corner, when I know what I’m really looking for is actually inside.”

COMING HOME – THE ALBUM

Ever since losing my sight completely, the way in which I experience my surroundings has been quite unique. Instead of everything going black, what I see in my mind's eye is extremely colourful and textured. Every moment is filled with an almost psychedelic swirl of blues, greens, reds, purples and gold against an expansive, seemingly endless backdrop of blacks and greys. On top of that is how the world around me influences those colours. When I enter a room, hear a sound or word, or listen to a live band, the spectrum of colours and textures in my mind shifts slightly to associate with what I'm hearing. Needless to say, my world has become no less colourful since I went blind at 11. If anything, it has become more vibrant.

When I set out to write music for this project, my goal was to “paint” a picture with sound. It's my attempt at reverse engineering my visual experience into a sonic pallet, where the instruments and timbres are the different coloured paints. The title Coming Home deals with the many ways I've experienced ‘home’, globally, and the compositions serve to illuminate the various emotions attached to each unique location. For instance, Country Fried and Coming Home focus on my fondness for my hometown of Virginia Beach. John My Beloved is a beautiful song by Sufjan Stevens, which perfectly encapsulates the way I feel about Brooklyn. The past few years have broadened my horizons considerably and each track is a glimpse into how the world has become so much more vivid to me.

JUSTIN KAUFLIN

Justin Kauflin is an award-winning American jazz pianist, composer, producer, educator and

Quincy Jones Artist. He performs worldwide, has recorded on 31 albums, composed the film

score for (and starred in) the critically acclaimed documentary Keep On Keepin’ On, published

29 original compositions and produced four albums as leader.

Born on 10 March, 1986 in Silver Spring, Maryland, Kauflin began his musical journey when he

was just four-year old, with a Suzuki violin. Even before this, he began having problems with his

sight due to a rare, hereditary illness and, by the time he was 11, he had become totally blind. In

nearly a decade he’d become extremely adept at playing classical violin and piano but, without

the ability to read sheet music, he changed tack and immersed himself in jazz piano while

attending high school at the Governor's School for Performing Arts, studying with Liz Barnes

and Old Dominion University's John Toomey.

He attended the Vail Jazz Workshop, Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead Residency, and received

top honours in jazz festivals across America. At the age of 15, Kauflin began performing

jazz professionally, most notably with the Jae Sinnett Trio, and in 2004 he attended William

Paterson University in New Jersey, where he was taken under the wing of legendary trumpeter,

Clark Terry and became a member of the Clark Terry Ensemble. He also had the privilege of

learning from his hero, the late Mulgrew Miller, as well as Harold Mabern.

He graduated summa cum laude, moved to NYC, and at age 23 he produced, led, composed

and performed on his debut CD, Introducing Justin Kauflin. In 2012 he served as House Pianist

at Havana Nights Jazz Club in Virginia Beach where his trio regularly headlined. In that year,

he won the VSA International Young Soloist Award, was voted VEER's Jazz Artist of the

Year and was selected as semi-finalist in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz

Piano Competition. During this time, Justin's relationship with mentor Clark Terry was being

chronicled by friend and fellow musician, Al Hicks, and five years in the making, the resultant

documentary, Keep On Keepin' On, won numerous awards and made the Oscars shortlist.

Kauflin had composed the film score and was subsequently signed for management by

legendary producer and music icon, Quincy Jones. Hicks went on to produce another

documentary, this time about Quincy Jones, called Quincy, and, Justin continued to record on

10 albums, three of which he produced as leader, and put on performances around the world.

Quincy oversaw Justin's second and fourth full-length CDs, Dedication (2015) and Coming Home

(2018). Justin Kauflin currently resides in Los Angeles, California.

EVAN GREGOR – BASSEvan Gregor is an in-demand acoustic and electric bassist who performs with many world-renowned artists in a variety of genres, having been hired as a sideman by masters including Gary Burton, Dave Liebman, Phil Woods, Bob Dorough, Phil Markowitz, Vic Juris, Ed Cherry, and Urbie Green. He has toured internationally with Grammy Award-winning vocalist Patti Austin, playing in a variety of acoustic and electric styles with ensembles, from the Baltimore Symphony to radio big bands.

Gregor has also worked consistently with a broad range of artists including Christian Scott, Darcy James Argue, Justin Kauflin, Zach Brock, Michael Dease, Bobby Avey, Grace Kelly, Miho Hazama, Matt Vashlishan, Matt Hollman, Brad Shepik, Christian Howes, Pete McCann, Bianca Wu, The New York BMI Jazz Orchestra, Meg Okura, Jon Ballantyne, The Mahavishnu Project, Migiwa Miyajima, Lynne Arriale and many others.

He is a founding member and teacher at CampJazz in Delaware Water Gap, has taught at the Collective in New York City, has given a variety of clinics across the world and was part of From Student to Jazz Artist – a unique, three-plus hour interview/discussion with David Liebman on developing as a young artist available through Advance Music.

JIMMY MACBRIDE – DRUMSA drummer and composer based in New York City, Macbride has performed with a wide variety of artists including Herbie Hancock, Terence Blanchard, Wynton Marsalis, Kenny Barron, Jimmy Greene and Adam Rogers. Coming from an artistic family (his father is a composer and mother is a visual artist), Jimmy began playing drums at the age of three, immediately gravitating toward jazz music.

Jimmy is a recent graduate of The Juilliard School, where he studied privately with Carl Allen, Billy Drummond and Kenny Washington. He is a regular performer throughout New York City, performing at venues like Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Smalls, The Jazz Gallery and The Blue Note. His musical talents have also taken him worldwide, touring across Europe, Asia and North America. Jimmy has also appeared at some of the world’s most famous events, including the Monterey Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, and Newport Jazz Festival, among others.

He performs regularly with different groups including Nir Felder, Samora Pinderhughes’ Transformations Suite, Lucas Pino’s Nonet, Nick Finzer's Hear & Now and the Roxy Coss Quintet. In addition, he can be seen playing with many of New York’s most creative and forward-thinking artists, including Lage Lund, Melissa Aldana, Ben Street, Kevin Hays, Fabian Almazan, Matt Brewer, Michael Rodriguez, and Dayna Stephens, among many others. He is also an active recording artist, appearing on more than 20 albums to date.

جيمي ماكبرايد – درامزجيمي ماكبرايد هو مؤلف موسيقي وعازف طبول يعيش في مدينة نيويورك. قدم ماكبرايد أداء برفقة العديد من الفنانين من بينهم هربي هانكوك، وتيرينس بالنشارد، ووينتون مارساليس، وكيني بارون، وجيمي جرين، وآدم

روجرز. وينحدر ماكبرايد من عائلة ذات إرث فني عريق )والده مؤلف موسيقي وأمه فنانة تشكيلية(، حيث بدأ العزف على الطبول في الثالثة من عمره، وانجذب سريعا إلى موسيقى الجاز.

تخرج ماكبرايد حديثا من "مدرسة جوليارد"، حيث شارك في دروس خاصة مع كارل ألين، وبيلي دروموند، وكيني واشنطن. وهو يواظب على إحياء حفالت مختلفة في أماكن متعددة حول نيويورك مثل "ديزي كلوب كوكا-

جاستين كوفلينجاستين كوفلين هو موسيقي جاز وعازف بيانو أمريكي حائز على عدد من أهم الجوائز الموسيقية، ومؤلف

موسيقي، ومنتج، ومدرس، فضال عن أنه من أبرز الفنانين الذين يعملون مع كوينسي جونز. وإلى جانب تقديم Keep On" العديد من العروض العالمية، سجل كوفلين 31 ألبوما، وألف الموسيقى التصويرية للفيلم الوثائقي

Keepin’ On" الذي قام أيضا ببطولته ونال إشادة كبيرة من النقاد، كما نشر 29 مقطوعة موسيقية باسمه، وأنتج أربعة ألبومات كقائد فرقة موسيقية.

ولد كوفلين في 10 مارس عام 1986 في سيلفر سبرينج في والية ماريالند. وعندما كان في الرابعة من العمر، استهل رحلته الموسيقية برفقة آلة كمان من نوع "سوزوكي"، إال أنه اشتكى من مشاكل في الرؤية قبل ذلك

بسبب مرض وراثي نادر، حتى فقد بصره نهائيا في عمر 11 عاما. ورغم ذلك، وخالل عشرة أعوام تقريبا، تمكن كوفلين من أداء المقطوعات الكالسيكية على الكمان والبيانو بمهارة عالية، لكنه تحول عنها لعدم قدرته على

قراءة النوطة الموسيقية، وانغمس بدراسة بيانو الجاز فيما كان يرتاد الثانوية في "مدرسة جوفرنر للفنون األدائية"، حيث درس مع ليز بارنز وجون تومي من جامعة أولد دومينيون.

شارك كوفلين في "ورشة ڤيل جاز"، وبرنامج اإلقامة الفنية "بيتي كارترز جاز أهيد"، كما نال أهم التكريمات في مهرجانات موسيقى الجاز في مختلف أنحاء الواليات المتحدة. وفي عمر 15 عاما، احترف كوفلين أداء موسيقى

الجاز مع ثالثي "جاي سينيت". وفي عام 2004، ارتاد جامعة وليام بيترسون في نيوجيرسي وتعلم تحت رعاية عازف الترومبيت الكبير كالرك تيري، حيث أصبح عازفا في فرقته. كما حظي كوفلين بفرصة التعلم من قدوته

الراحل مالغرو ميلر، وكذلك من هارولد مابرن.

تخرج كوفلين مع مرتبة االمتياز وانتقل إلى مدينة نيويورك. وفي عمر 23 عاما أنتج، وقاد، وألف، وأدى في ألبومه األول "Introducing Justin Kauflin". وفي عام 2012، كان عازف البيانو الدائم مع فرقته الثالثية في "نادي هافانا نايتس للجاز" في فرجينيا بيتش. وفي العام نفسه، فاز كوفلين بـ"جائزة في إس إيه الدولية للعازفين المنفردين

منذ أن فقدت بصري تماما، أصبحت أدرك محيطي بطريقة مختلفة كليا، فبدال من السواد القاتم أرى مخيلتي تنبض باأللوان واألشكال المختلفة. وتمتلئ كل لحظة بأطياف من األلوان الزرقاء والخضراء والحمراء واألرجوانية والذهبية على

خلفية سوداء ورمادية تمتد إلى ما ال نهاية. وتتراقص هذه األلوان على إيقاع العالم من حولي. فعندما أدخل غرفة أو أسمع صوتا أو كلمة أو أستمع إلى أداء حي لفرقة موسيقية، يتحرك طيف األلوان واألشكال في عقلي متناغما مع ما

أسمعه. ومذ فقدت بصري في سن الحادية عشرة، زادت ألوان عالمي رونقا وباتت أكثر حيوية.

عندما بدأت تأليف الموسيقى ألجل هذا المشروع كنت أسعى لـ "رسم" صورة ملونة باألصوات. فقد حاولت أن أعيد صياغة تجربتي البصرية على هيئة لوحة صوتية، حيث تأخذ اآلالت الموسيقية وأصوات النغمات دور األلوان المختلفة. ويعكس عنوان

األلبوم "Coming Home" األشكال المختلفة التي اختبرت بها مفهوم المنزل حول العالم، بينما تجسد المقطوعات "Country Fried" الموسيقية العواطف المختلفة المرتبطة بكل مكان على حدة. فعلى سبيل المثال، تجسد كل من

و"Coming Home" عشقي لمسقط رأسي في فرجينيا، في حين تلخص أغنية "John My Beloved" لسوفجان ستيفنز، شعوري نحو مدينة بروكلين. وكان للسنوات الماضية األثر الكبير في توسيع آفاقي، وكل أغنية من األلبوم تظهر كم أصبح

العالم نابضا بالحياة في نظري.

)Coming Home( "ألبوم "عائد إلى المنزل

لعل معظمكم سمع بالمقولة القديمة التي تقول بأن موطن المرء يكمن أينما ألقى عصا ترحاله، وكان العالم

بمفهومه الواسع هو المكان الذي اختاره عازف البيانو والملحن الشهير جاستين كوفلين ليكتشف تفاصيله

برفقة موسيقاه الفريدة، حيث حط رحاله في العديد من البلدان خالل السنوات القليلة الماضية. وكانت فرجينيا

هي المكان الذي انطلق منه، ليجوب بعدها العديد من األماكن داخل وخارج البالد، معتبرا أن العالم الواسع هو

وطنه. وبالرغم من فقدانه لحاسة البصر وهو في سن الحادية عشرة، إال أن ذلك لم يحد من عزيمته وموهبته

التي سمحت له برؤية العالم من منظور آخر خالل أسفاره. ومن خالل األصوات واألحاسيس التي كانت تفيض بها المدن أو األماكن التي يزورها، تمكن كوفلين من رؤية

وتخيل تلك المناظر المفعمة بالحياة واأللوان، حيث يدعونا من خالل ألبومه األخير إلى رؤية العالم من منظوره،

مستخدما الموسيقى لغة يعبر من خاللها عن تجاربه التي عاشها والصور التي ارتسمت في مخيلته لألماكن

التي زارها خالل تنقله حول العالم.

ويعد ألبوم "عائد إلى المنزل" (Coming Home( ثالث ألبومات كوفلين وثانيها من إصدار "كويست ريكوردز"

)Qwest Records(. وفي ألبومه هذا، يعيش كوفلين تجربة موسيقية جديدة، مستخدما فيها تأثيرات صوتية

آلالت السنثسيزر، والجيتار الكهربائي وآلة الباص.

وقال كوفلين: "لطالما أحببت موسيقى الجاز التي تتفرد )Swing) بإيقاعها الخاص، سواء كان إيقاعا تفاعليا هادئا

أو متسارعا (Funk(. وبفضل مساعدة كوري فونفيل، تمكنا من استخدام جميع هذه اإليقاعات ودمجها

بأسلوب رائع أتشوق لعرضه أمام الناس".

وتم تســجيل األلبوم في البداية باستخدام آالت موســيقية كهربائية، وتولى كوينسي جونز وديريك

هودج إنتاجه في اســتديوهات "ويســتالك" التي يمتلكها جونز )والتي تم فيها تســجيل أغاني لمايكل جاكســون،

ومادونا، وفرانك أوشــن(. وانضم إلى كوفلين كريس ســميث كعازف على آلة الباص الصوتي والكهربائي،

وكــوري فونفيــل على الدرامز واآلالت اإليقاعية، وآالن باركر علــى الجيتــار الكهربائي والصوتي. وقدم العازفون أفضل

مــا لديهم إلنتاج هــذا األلبوم الفريد، وأضاف كوفلين قائــال: "كان وجود ديريــك معنا حافزا لنبذل أقصى

طاقاتنا اإلبداعية إلنتاج هذا األلبوم المميز. وأشــعرني حضــوره بثقة كبيرة، ولوال وجــوده معنا لما تمكنا من إنتاج هــذه األغاني المتميزة بألحانها وكلماتها. وهذا شــيء لم

يكــن ليتحقق أيضا دون توجيهات وخبرة كوينســي الذي أشــرف على تنظيم كل شيء بأسلوب رائع".

تداعب األغاني الثالث عشرة في هذا األلبوم عواطف المستمع مسافرة به إلى خارج حدود المكان والزمان.

وتفتتح األغنية الرئيسية بعنوان "عائد إلى المنزل" (Coming Home( األلبوم مستحضرة مشاعر كوفلين

نحو الجنوب. حيث قال عنها: "أدعو في هذه األغنية الجميع ليتعرفوا الطريقة التي أتفاعل بها مع العالم من حولي عبر األلوان واألشكال والزخارف التي تتغير باستمرار.

وتعيدني ألحان الجيتار الصوتي آلالن باركر إلى موطني في فيرجينيا". كما قال عن األغنية المتميزة بعنوان

"Lost" : "رغم روعة التنقل حول العالم، لكنني مررت بأوقات شعرت فيها بالغربة والضيق. لكن لم يكن ذلك اإلحساس مرتبطا بالمكان الذي أتواجد فيه فحسب، بل كان يعكس أحيانا مكنوناتي الداخلية. فالحياة نفسها

قد تجعلنا نشعر بالضياع قليال".

كما يتضمن األلبوم أغنية تتحدث عن ذكرياته التي ، "John My Beloved" عاشها في بروكلين بعنوان

والمقطوعة االرتجالية التي ألفها في جلسة مع ديريك هودج تحت اسم "’Somethin’ Somethin" . وتمثل

أغنية "Country Fried" إشادة بطعامه المفضل الدجاج المقلي، وفي أغنية "Pendulum"، يتحدث عن مدينة

نيويورك وكيف كان يجدها بالغة القسوة أحيانا، وأفضل مكان على وجه األرض في أحيان أخرى. وقال كوفلين

مهرجان أبوظبي 2019في نسخته السادسة عشر، يواصل مهرجان أبوظبي دوره كمنارة للتواصل الثقافي وتمكين وإلهام اإلنسانية في جميع

أنحاء العالم. وتقدم هذه االحتفالية الفنية والثقافية الفريدة لعام 2019 أكثر من 100 فعالية تقام في 25 موقعا، باإلضافة إلى 18 مؤلفا موسيقيا، وإنتاجين مشتركين، وعملي تكليف حصري، وعروضا مميزة يحييها نخبة من نجوم األوبرا والباليه واألوركسترا والجاز والفالمينكو. وتأكيدا اللتزامه بتحفيز التبادل الثقافي العالمي، ودعم اإلبداع واالبتكار في مجال

الفنون، وتعزيز الحوار بين األمم، يحتفي المهرجان بجمهورية كوريا كضيف شرف لدورة عام 2019.

ويقدم المهرجان أكثر من 500 فنان عالمي من 17 دولة مختلفة من بينهم 18 مؤلفا موسيقيا، ويتضمن برنامجه الرئيسي حضورا استثنائيا للميتزو-سوبرانو العالمية جويس دي دوناتو مع أوركسترا "إيل بومو دورو" اإليطالية

بقيادة مكسيم إيميليانتشيف؛ وفرقة الباليه الكورية الوطنية، أول مؤسسة متخصصة بالباليه في كوريا الجنوبية؛ واألوركسترا الكورية السيمفونية، إحدى فرق األوركسترا المسرحية الرائدة في كوريا؛ وجاستين كافلين، فنان الجاز وعازف

البيانو األمريكي الحائز على العديد من الجوائز؛ وسارة باراس التي تعتبر واحدة من أشهر وأفضل راقصات الفالمينكو ومصممي الرقصات في العالم؛ ويختتم البرنامج الرئيس للمهرجان بعرض من تصميم الشهير جورج باالنشين تقدمه

وينظم مهرجان أبوظبي معرضه الرئيسي للفنون التشكيلية هذا العام تحت عنوان "آفاق بعيدة" أعمال فنية للطبيعة األوروبية، مجموعة المقتنيات األميرية - لختنشتاين"، ألول مرة في الشرق األوسط، المقتنيات األميرية من لختنشتاين،

إحدى أهم وأعرق المجموعات الخاصة في أوروبا والعالم، والتي تتضمن أعماال من القرن الخامس عشر حتى التاسع عشر، لكبار الفنانين أمثال روبين الموجودة أعماله في اللوفر باريس، برادو مدريد، وسميثسونيان واشنطن، متروبوليتان نيويورك

وغيرها، ويتيح المعرض االستثنائي معاينة تاريخ رسم المناظر الطبيعية على مدى عدة قرون، حيث يضم شخصيات رئيسية من عصر النهضة والحقبة الباروكية.

وبالتوازي مع المعرض، يقدم المهرجان برنامجا تعليميا مميزا يهدف إلى إلهام الزوار عبر تنظيم حوارات جماعية وجوالت مصحوبة بمرشدين وورش عمل إبداعية. ويتم أيضا تنظيم برنامج إقامة مصمم خصيصا لتوفير تجربة فريدة لخمسة

حول مجموعة أبوظبي للثقافة والفنون

تأسس مهرجان أبوظبي في عام 2004 تحت رعاية سمو الشيخ عبداهلل بن زايد آل نهيان، وزير اإلعالم والثقافة آنذاك )وزير الخارجية والتعاون الدولي حاليا( وحظي المهرجان برعاية كريمة من صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن

زايد آل نهيان، ولي عهد أبوظبي، نائب القائد األعلى للقوات المسلحة، في الفترة من 2007 لغاية 2011، ويقام اليوم تحت رعاية معالي الشيخ نهيان مبارك آل نهيان، وزير التسامح.

يعتبر مهرجان أبوظبي اليوم واحدا من أبرز فعاليات الثقافة والفنون في العالم واالحتفالية األبرز في المنطقة، إلسهامه في إثراء الرؤية الثقافية ألبوظبي، وترسيخ مكانتها كوجهة ثقافية رائدة وعاصمة عالمية للثقافة

والفنون، ومحطة لقاء للثقافات العالمية، ويلعب المهرجان دورا جوهريا، بدعم من شبكة عالمية متنامية تضم أكثر من 30 شريكا ثقافيا استراتيجيا دوليا، في احتضان اإلبداع واالبتكار من خالل الفنون، في إطار فعاليات

برنامجه الرئيسي ومنصاته الشبابية ومبادراته المجتمعية، في اإلمارات السبع، إلى جانب أعمال التكليف وعالقات التعاون الدولية، وتتيح هذه الشراكات للجمهور عروضا أولى على المستويات الوطنية واإلقليمية والعالمية.

يحتفي مهرجان أبوظبي بالقيم اإلماراتية، تعزيزا للريادة في خدمة الثقافة واإلنسانية، بوحي من اإلرث الكبير الذي تركه لنا الوالد الشيخ زايد، رحمه اهلل، في سبيل إعالء قيم االحترام والتسامح واالنفتاح على الثقافات األخرى، والتميز

في التعليم والمعرفة.

سيضم البرنامج الرئيسي لمهرجان أبوظبي في نسخته السادسة عشرة أكثر من 100 فعالية تقام في 25 موقعا، ويشارك فيها 543 فنانا عالميا من 17 دولة من بينهم 18 مؤلفا موسيقيا، باإلضافة إلى إنتاجين مشتركين، وعملي

تكليف حصري، و6 عروض تقام للمرة األولى في العالم العربي.

تأسست مجموعة أبوظبي للثقافة والفنون، الجهة المنظمة لمهرجان أبوظبي، في العام 1996، وهي بذلك تعتبر واحدة من أقدم المؤسسات الثقافية ذات النفع العام في منطقة الخليج العربي. وتعنى المجموعة بدعم منجز الثقافة والفنون واستدامة التنمية الثقافية، عبر احتضان اإلبداع لما فيه خير المجتمع إسهاما منها في إثراء الرؤية

الثقافية ألبوظبي، وتقدم المجموعة طيفا واسعا من المبادرات منها مهرجان أبوظبي والعديد من المنصات الشبابية والبرامج المجتمعية التي تستقطب جماهير متنوعة، كما ترعى اإلمكانات اإلبداعية داخل اإلمارات

وخارجها بالتعاون مع كبريات المؤسسات الثقافية المحلية والعالمية.

نا اعتزاز بمكانته كواحدة من أبرز فعاليات الثقافة ندخل العام السادس عشر من عمر المهرجان، وكلوالفنون في المنطقة والعالم، هذه المكانة التي كان للدعم الالمحدود والرعاية الكريمة من صاحب

السمو الشيخ محمد بن زايد آل نهيان، ولي عهد أبوظبي، نائب القائد األعلى للقوات المسلحة، الدور الكبير في ترسيخها، متسلحين باليقين والعزيمة من مقولة سموه: "اإلمارات ماضية بقوة نحو المستقبل بسواعد

أبنائها"، أبناؤها الشباب الذين سخرنا كل الجهود لالستثمار فيهم، في تنمية قدراتهم، وتحقيق أحالمهم وإتاحة الفرص أمامهم.

ومن راعي المهرجان، معالي الشيخ نهيان مبارك آل نهيان، في عمله معنا يدا بيد، وخطوة بخطوة، تعلمنا الحوار من أجل رفعة الحضارة، وعملنا لخير اإلنسانية، ملتزمين بوعد الثقافة.

قبل 16 عاما، انطلقنا بإمكانات قليلة، وتخطينا عقبات وصعوبات كثيرة، مؤمنين بحتمية النجاح، يوم اعتقد البعض باستحالة أن نؤسس لمهرجان يحكي تاريخ اإلنسانية بفنونها ومنجزها، بجوهرها وإرثها،

وبالموسيقى لغة للسعادة وإيقاعا للحياة.

هم لم يدركوا أننا أبناء زايد، وال نعرف المستحيل، وأن مهرجان أبوظبي ثمرة هذا اليقين، بحضوره العالمي، ودوره اإلنمائي، واقتداره باإلصرار واإلرادة، بهويته، هوية مهرجان بالد الخير، ورسالته التي تعلي قيم االحترام

والمعرفة والتسامح وحب الوطن.

اليوم، وتحت شعار "ثقافة العزم"، يحتفي مهرجان أبوظبي 2019 بأصحاب الهمم، أبطال األلعاب العالمية األولمبياد الخاص، الحاملين شعلة العزم والتحدي، واالنتصار بقوة اإلرادة، ألصحاب الهمم األبطال، أقول:

دون فينا ثقافة العزم، الشغف بالكفاح، تحلقون باإلنجازات عاليا، مثاال يحتذى في الشجاعة "أنتم اليوم تجدواإلصرار، وإننا معكم، نشارككم اليقين بأن نجاحنا يكمن في السعي لتحقيق أحالمنا، األحالم التي جسرها،

غلب على التحديات والمعوقات"، كما قال سيدي صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن زايد، هو "امتالك إرادة التوإنكم، يا أصحاب الهمم، األولى بعبور هذا الجسر، واألحق بالوصول، بكم نحتفي، بكم نقتدي، ومنكم نتعلم.
