AN INTRODUCTION

JIT philosophy means getting the right quantity of goods at the right place and the right time .

A manufacturing philosophy based on planned elimination of all wastes and continuous improvement of productivity.

The primary elements include: required inventory when needed(Zero inventory) zero defects Zero lead time(min.) Reduce queue lengths and lot sizes minimum cost Lot size one

Three Elements of JIT

JUST IN TIME MANUFACTURING—– It focuses on production system to achieve value-

added manufacturing . TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT

QM is an integrated effort designed to improve quality performance at every level

Respect for people Respect for people rests on the philosophy that human

resources are an essential part of JIT philosophy

Requirements for Successful JIT

Pull production systems

Good customer-supplier relationships

Short distance between customer & supplier.

Reliable delivery

Consistent quality with zero defects.

Benefits of JIT Better quality products

Reduction in scrap and rework

Less inventory(thus less inventory holding cost)

Smoother production flow

Reduced space requirements

Increased productivity

Better relationship with suppliers & customersRAGHAV JHA

KANBAN SYSTEM It is a production control approach that uses containers,

cards, or visual signals to control the production & movement of goods in a supply chain.

Two card kanban system Single card kanban system Color coding of containers Computerized bar coding systems.

TYPES OF KANBAN System

Two cards kanban system

In this system two type of card is used to give instruction for production and movement of material and labour.

production card– This card is used to control the production system.

move card– Move card is used to control the movement of materials

Cards contains all details regarding what product & in what quantity need to be produced or moved.
