Remembrance Day takes place on the second Sunday of November or the Sunday nearest the 11th No-
vember. This is to commemorate the First World War which ended at the eleventh hour on the eleventh
day of the eleventh month 1918 (11 o'clock on the 11th November 1918).
Armistice day, as it was then known (when the warring forces
agreed to stop fighting) has been observed ever since. The First
World War or Great War marked the beginning of the use of
modern technology in warfare and led to millions of deaths. It
was felt that the dead should be honoured and King George V
initiated a 2 minute silence at exactly 11 o'clock to commemo-
rate those who had died for their country.
Nowadays Remembrance Day is marked with a number of services and parades. The Queen, government
representatives and soldiers march to the Cenotaph (empty tomb in Greek) in London and lay wreaths. A
two minute silence is held to remember all those who have died for their country in the First World War
and all wars since. The "Last post" is played on a bugle to introduce the two minute silence at 11 o'clock
and "Rouse" is played at the end. Other commemoration services are held in churches and at war memo-
rials throughout Britain.
Remembrance Day is also known as Poppy day. Poppy seeds which had
lain dormant for many years in the battlefields in northern France bloomed
with vigour after the earth was disturbed, becoming a symbol of new life
and loss. A Canadian doctor called John McCrae posted to the front wrote
a poem entitled "In Flanders fields" which served as the inspiration for
people to wear artificial poppies as a sign of remembrance. These are now
sold on behalf of The British Legion, a charity dedicated to supporting
those serving in the armed forces and former soldiers. White poppies are
also sold and worn as a sign of respect and as a symbol of peace.
VE (Victory in Europe) day marks the end of the second world war in Eu-
rope on the 8th May 1945. Massive celebrations took place in Britain - par-
ticularly London, where the civilian population exhausted by the austerity
of domestic life in war torn Britain, enjoyed an excuse to party. This day is
still commemorated as a reminder of those who died during the second
world war.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead.
Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
John McCrae
In Flanders Fields
Wherever I am, I will love you day by day
I will keep you safe, cling on to faith, along
the dark dark way
Wherever I am, I will hold on through the night
I will pray each day a safe return, will look
now to the light
Light up the darkness, my wondrous star
Our hopes and dreams, my heart and yours,
forever shining far
Light up the darkness, my prince of peace.
May the stars shine all around you may your
courage never cease.

Legal Jargon
With the problems in the Spanish health system at the moment,
with the cancellation of many SIP cards that is in vigour at the
moment. Even pensioners have had their SIP cards cancelled.
The idea of cancelling SIP cards is to make sure that only the people
that are entitled to them get to use them. Pensioners are entitled to
them, people who work legally or are self employed are entitled. This
leaves a gap in the health system in the case that people who live in
Spain but do not work or have not reached retirement age. So if you
are not in these categories you are possibly not covered by the Span-
ish national health system. In September 2012 the Spanish govern-
ment announced it was going to allow these people who aren’t
included in the Spanish system an opportunity to pay a percentage of
the normal Social Security costs, towards health cover. (This only cov-
ers medical not prescriptions).
The figure that has been banded about by the national health would
be in the region of 75 to 85 euro a month, paid by direct debit from
your bank account to the Social Security to enable you to have use of
your SIP card. As of today this system is still not available.
We at Professional Business Support are in constant contact with the
departments of the Social Security and Sanidad, as soon as the appli-
cations are available we will be offering the service of applying for the
SIP cards for those in need of one.
In the meantime (and until the Spanish Government produce the doc-
umentation and procedures) we at Professional Business Support can
offer you full Private Medical Insurance. Policies are available in Eng-
lish and German.
Caser Health Insurance are convinced that, in terms of health, it’s
easier to be optimistic and relaxed when you know you’re in good
hands. Therefore, our insurance allows you to help you and your fam-
ily.
Forget about waiting lists, and choose a doctor and hospital from a
selection of 40,000 specialists and 1,150 clinics. Because when it

Caser Comprehensive Health Insurance is an insurance that can pro-
vide all the care they need.
They devote full attention to you and to your family, wherever you may
be, and are fully prepared to deal with the situation: illness or acci-
dent, health, hospital or surgery.
In addition they provide the freedom to choose private doctors and
hospitals of your choice anywhere in Spain, and even offer the possi-
bility of a second diagnosis by prestigious doctors.
From the moment of taking out Caser Health insurance, you can ac-
cess all the treatments, medication consultations, and diagnostics.
Consultations can be booked directly without the need for referral
from a GP. With Caser´s healthcare you have the added benefit of a
24-hour medical hotline and help.
A Financial Times survey shows that medical care in Spain is one of
the best in Europe, with hardly any waiting lists in the care institutions.
International coverage
The policy includes international coverage, provided that the trip is no
longer than 30 days. There are no limits regarding the number of trips
you can make in one year. Caser Seguros also offers the possibility to
extend the Europe policy to World-wide coverage.
Rates
Because of both the size and the nature of this large Spanish insur-
ance company, Caser Seguros offers very competitive rates. Premi-
ums Start from E 50 a month depending on age.

exisiting conditions – although these must be declared prior to con-
tracting of the policy, and certain coverage may be excluded.

port is able to offer high quality insurances for a very good price. We

Weird&WonderfulSamuel L. Jackson requested to have a purple lightsaber in
order to make his character stand out in the Star Wars films. He wanted it both for appearing in the films and with the goal of making his character look

A 1936 heat wave in the US killed 5,000! Detroit faced the worst heat wave ever recorded in July 1936, just as
the Great Depression was beginning to taper off. People walking to
work would never return home. They simply collapsed from the heat
and died. Hospitals filled up with people.
Morgues were so full, that bodies lined the hallways, because all the
slabs were taken. Family members had to come and identify the bodies
lined up. Doctors and nurses were fainting at work from the heat. It was
intense. In the end, 5,000 people were killed by the heat wave.

fatty acids.

in treating breast cancer.

Top 10 ways to reducestress
Stress affects everybody every day, and forthe most part stress offers the push weneed to respond to a pressing situation. From trying to get out of the house on timeto giving a presentation, stress is your re-sponse to physical, chemical, emotional orenvironmental factors. Whenever there's asudden need for quick response, our bod-ies initiate a cascade of chemical reactionsthat sends our hearts racing and heightensall our senses. In a positive context, stresses can help keep our bodies strongand minds alert, but chronic stress canhave devastating effects. When you have chronic stress, your bodyproduces too much cortisol and adrena-lin—two major stress hormones. Cortisol isthe worry hormone produced by fear andvigilance, and produces anxiety. Adrenalinis the fight-or-flight hormone which pre-pares the body to react physically to athreat. If you fail to adapt to our stresses, yourbody can produce too much of these hor-mones for too long. This results in distress, which is literally an overdose of cortisol andadrenalin. The effects can result in physicalsymptoms and even changes that lead tostress-related illnesses.Chronic stress has been linked, for exam-ple, to high blood pressure and heart dis-ease. New research suggests that peoplewhose blood pressure spikes in reaction tolife's daily annoyances develop blockages
in their arteries faster than those who canrelax.High stress levels also have been found totrigger asthma attacks and can precede aheart attack. Long episodes of stress canalso have a negative impact on your im-mune system, weakening your resistanceto infection as well as your ability to re-cover. Other physical manifestations ofstress include headaches, insomnia, diges-tive trouble and acne. In fact, stress canworsen just about any symptom, whateverthe original cause.Stress can manifest itself in a range ofsymptoms. You may become more forgetfulor find it harder to concentrate. Losing yoursense of humor is another sign of an un-healthy amount of stress in your life, as areirritable moods and increased angry out-bursts.Stress can lead to an entirely different setof health problems if you seek relief from itby smoking, drinking alcohol, taking otherdrugs, or by eating more or less than usual.Fortunately there are a variety of natural,drug-free approaches to provide stress re-lief. What can you do to handle stress? Themost important question to ask yourselfwhen you feel trapped by intense stress iswhether this is really worth dying for. Then, remind yourself that there is no one solu-tion to handling stress. Everyone is differ-ent and you need to choose the stressrelievers that work best for you.

Poppy seed oil that is obtained from the small dark
seeds of the poppy flower is a good option for salad
dressings. This oil also has several health benefits.
The oil is a good source of energy due to the abun-
dance of carbohydrates and calcium. This poppy seed
oil is also rich in linoleic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid)
which studies show, offers protection against heart
disease and heart attacks. The oil derived from poppy
seeds also has cosmetic benefits and is used for vari-
ous massages on the head and skin. Poppy seed oil is
also used as salad dressing as it adds a unique flavor
and aroma to the salad. Some studies have also
shown that poppy seed oil is useful in fertility. Women
who have had their uterus bathed with poppy seed oil
have become pregnant later. It is also used as a con-
trast medium for an x-ray procedure called hysteros-
alpingography (HSG) which is used to evaluate fertility
in women. Poppy seed oil is also used as a carrier for
iodine in pediatric medicine.

Identify your triggers: Begin by first identi-fying all the sources of stress in your dailylife. Keep a diary or make simple notesevery time an event triggers your stress re-sponse. This will help you identify patternsin your perception of stressful events andcircumstances that precede them. Whenyou've gone through this exercise, make theeffort, either with your employer, your part-ner or with yourself to change these pat-terns and reduce the amount of stress youcurrently face.Modify your responses: While some re-search shows that our stress response is, inpart, shaped by our early childhood experi-ences, experts also say that we can learn tomodify our reactions to make stressfulevents less so. Such cognitive-behavioraltherapy can be done with the help of a men-tal health professional in identifying yourstress triggers or simply by rememberingthe simple prayer used by many 12-stepprograms: "Grant me the serenity to acceptthe things I cannot change, the courage tochange the things I can, and the wisdom toknow the difference."Learn biofeedback: Even if you can't con-trol the stress in your life, there are waysyou can control your response to it. Onemethod is to learn biofeedback. Biofeedbackis a simple method in which electrodes areattached to your skin to record changes inbody temperature, heart rate or brain wavesin response to specific stimuli. Thesechanges are converted into electronicsounds that change in pitch or frequency. With biofeedback, you can learn to controlwhat would otherwise be involuntary reac-tions, and thereby "short-circuit" your stressresponse.Practice daily meditation: The goal inmeditation is to quiet the mind by focusingyour attention on a repeated sound, called amantra, or image, without distraction, inorder to enter a deeply relaxed state. Regu-lar meditation practice can ease stress byhelping you diffuse your triggers and allow-ing your body to relax. By clearing the mind, you are forced to "let go" of stressful events. If you notice mental distractions creepingback in, simply return to your mantra orimage. One form of meditation called tran-scendental meditation, was first studied byDr. Herbert Benson of Harvard MedicalSchool and written about in his book, "TheRelaxation Response" (William Morrow andCompany, 1975). Noting the method's abilityto reduce stress, transcendental meditation
was also described in the American HeartAssociation's journal, Stroke (March 2000),as an effective treatment of chronic highblood pressure. Experts suggest practicingmeditation for at least 20 minutes once ortwice a day, but you can enjoy mini-medita-tions throughout the day, whenever you feelstress getting a grip on you.Massage: Massage therapy has beenshown in several studies to be an effectiveremedy for daily stress. Research amongvarious groups of people who face a lot ofdaily stress, such as caregivers for thechronically ill, hospital workers and teachers, all conclude that a little massage therapygoes a long way toward relieving stress. One recent study from the Dartmouth-Hitch-cock Medical Center in New Hampshire onpatients undergoing bone-marrow trans-plants found that patients' stress test scoreswere significantly lower after receiving mas-sage over the course of their treatment. An-other study from the Department ofPsychology at Toronto Hospital in OntarioCanada on a group of nurses showed thatmassage treatments not only relieved work-place stress, but improved overall mood aswell.Aromatherapy: Results of studies usingaromatherapy indicate that it helps aid in re-laxation and stress relief. One such studypublished in the May 1998 edition of Pallia-tive Medicine documented the calming ef-fects of aromatherapy on a group of mostlybreast cancer patients receiving radical can-
cer treatment. Their high tension, stress andanxiety levels dropped significantly aftertreatment. Essential oils have been found toaffect brainwaves and alter behavior, thoughtheir mechanism of action is not well under-stood. Scents of lavender and citrus are twoof the most often used for stress-relief, sokeep these essential oils on hand and rubsome into the temples in times of stress.Yoga: Researchers from Kaleida Health-Mil-lard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo, NY, meas-ured whether yoga or listening to classicalmusic or nature sounds could relieve stress. While all approaches worked to some ex-tent, yoga worked the fastest to lower theblood pressure of those people subjected tomental stress.Breathing exercises: Breathing or relax-ation exercises are becoming increasinglyembraced by mainstream medicine asamong the best remedies for stress. Likemeditation, these exercises are meant togive your mind and body a quick timeout.Whenever you feel yourself becoming over-whelmed by daily events, stop and inhaledeeply through your nose, then exhaleslowly through your mouth to the count of 8.Practice this regularly throughout the dayand you'll find yourself better able to diffuseyour stressful moments.Aerobic exercise: Physical activity is agreat stress buster, plus you'll be amazed byhow much better you'll look and feel. In addi-tion to distracting you from your troubles, ex-ercise has an overall relaxing effect. Aerobicactivity, in particular, can reduce anxiety, de-pression and tension. Brisk walking or bicy-cling for 20 to 30 minutes three to five timesa week may be all that you need to help youmanage stress more effectively.Develop a support network: Studies showthat women are better able to cope withemotional stress than are men due, in part,to their stronger support networks. Whenstress becomes a problem, spending timewith loved ones, meeting with friends oreven caring for your pet may help. Or youmay consider talking to a member of theclergy or a healthcare professional. All ofthese things activities can help get youthrough times of stress and related depres-sion or anxiety. The most important thing is to realize thatyou are not a victim of your circumstances.Rather, use these tools to change your per-spective on the events in your life that makeyou feel stressed and take control of your re-actions to them.

November 2012
Tucked away in the Rotonda Aparthotel complex, Calle del Agua, the
Manhattan is not easy to find. But if you do make it down the pedestrian
walkway and through the Rotonda’s reception you are in for a big
surprise. And, once you know where it is you are guaranteed to go back
again and again, all Manhattan’s customers do.
Many things make the Manhattan stand out in this busy commercial
area where practically every building houses a restaurant or a bar.
First, there is the tranquillity. Although only a stone’s throw from the
busy main road, once in the Manhattan you
are completely unaware of the noise. Inside,
the restaurant is smart and comfortable, and
alfresco diners can enjoy a shady terrace
overlooking the swimming pool.
Then there is the friendly service. The
Manhattan is a family run restaurant and the
personal touch shows as owners Paul and
Dawn Mansell make all their customers feel
welcome, but what really makes the
Manhattan special is the food.
Dawn is the head chef and has created an
extensive menu of pub favourites. You’ll find
everything from fish and chips and lamb
chops to Madras-style chicken curry.
This may sound like the type of food you
could get in dozens of establishments up and down the coast, but you’d
have to go a long way to find dishes cooked quite like Dawn’s.
The starting point for all Dawn’s recipes is quality, fresh ingredients.
While the Manhattan offers main courses starting at only €4.50, Dawn
refuses to cut corners on quality to keep the prices low.
“It is possible to produce excellent food, with the best ingredients,
without putting up the prices,” says Paul.
And, Dawn has certainly proved this. Her steak pie, packed with thick
chunks of steak and topped with melt-in-the-mouth pastry, is so good it
actually reduced one customer to tears. “It reminded him of pies he
used to love and eat with a close friend in the West Midlands. His friend
had since died and the taste brought tears to his eyes,” says Paul.
It is really no surprise that Paul and Dawn are doing such a great job
with the Manhattan as they have a wealth of experience with food and
hospitality. They took over the Manhattan 18 months ago but have been
in Spain for eight years and run two bars on the Lemon Tree market.
The couple’s sons, Jack and Joe, help run the restaurant and bars.
Before they came to Spain the pair ran a pub restaurant in Telford for
four years and a Deli in Bromsgrove.
Many of Dawn’s most popular dishes were developed and perfected for
customers in the UK. Some of her dishes go back even further as Dawn
has been a passionate cook since she was a child.
Paul tells the story of how Dawn used to make cakes in a friend’s
kitchen when she was 12 and the cakes were so good the friend was off
selling them behind Dawn’s back. Luckily, Paul keeps an eye on
business these days.
The Manhattan’s three course homemade menu del dia is incredible
value at just €7.95, and is served from noon until 9pm, but if you’re not
so hungry, you can choose just a main. It is perfectly possible for a
couple to eat and have drinks for less than €13. It really is astonishing
how they can do this and keep the quality so high.
Menu favourites include the Full of Fish Pie, which lives up to its name
and is stuffed full of salmon, smoked haddock and prawns, the
fantastically authentic lasagne and the best quality T-bone and sirloin
steaks.
For dessert, old classics such as bread and butter pudding, apple pie,
trifle and crumble put in an appearance. But these aren’t just any old
puddings; these are Dawn’s quality
homemade puddings.
Then there is Sunday lunch. One of the best
roast dinners you are likely to get on the
coast, with one course €5.95, two €6.95 and
three €7.95. How do they do it?
Right now, Paul and Dawn are working on
their winter menu, and are introducing 20
new dishes. We tried to get some inside
information before going to press, but it was
all a bit hush-hush, so you will have to go
along to find out what tasty winter warmers
are being served up. The only hint we got
from Paul is that there will be dishes people
loved eating when they were children.
Whatever they are, we know they will be
homemade from the freshest ingredients and really, really tasty. Oh, and
great value, too.
Throughout November Manhattan will be serving Christmas fare and
they are now taking bookings for their Christmas Day menu; a full
Christmas dinner for €39.95.
The only problem with the Manhattan is that once you go, you may find
you will want to give up cooking completely. One customer complained
that his wife wanted to sell the cooker as she couldn’t see any reason to

The Chrysanthemum is an everlasting plant
of the Astraea family, native of Asia and Eu-
rope’s north-east. In the United States they
are simply known "mums".
The culture of the chrysanthemums in China
goes back to before 1500 B.C. A former Chi-
nese city was called Ju-Xian " city of the
chrysanthemum ".
These flowers were introduced in Japan proba-
bly in the 8th century and the emperor of Japan
adopted them as the official flower of the coun-
try. There is a " Festival of Happiness " in
Japan that honours this flower. The flower was
taken to Europe in the 17th century.
The chrysanthemum is the flower of November,
flowering naturally when the days are shorter
in autumn and winter. This means that in the
southern hemisphere it flowers in April, May,
June. However, nowadays, by means of the ap-
propriate technology it has become a plant that
can flower all year round when in a controlled
environment.
The modern chrysanthemum is much more
decorative than its wild relative. The flowers
have varied forms, similar to dahlias and are
very decorative like pompoms or buttons.
There are many varieties of color. Besides the
traditional golden colour there are flowers of
white, purple and red, etc. They are used to en-
hance patios, balconies and and interiors. Due
to the great variety of forms and colours it is
one of the most popular of the cut flowers to be
used in bouquets.
A symbolic flower for many cultures
The chrysanthemum is the national flower of
Japan.
In China it is the symbol of knowledge and in
other countries the symbol of honesty.
In China it is one of the four significant plants,
the other being the orchid, the apricot bloom
and bamboo.
In the U.S.A. the chrysanthemum is the flower
of joy and it is the official flower of Chicago
since 1961.
The chrysanthemum is the emblem of the
brotherhood of musicians.

GibraltarLoads to do in just 7 square kilometres
Gibraltar may be in the press in Spain a lot for the ongoing struggle over who should right-
fully be presiding over this small peninsula of land, but if you look past all this, the place of-
fers an interesting day out, and a little taste of England on the southern tip of Spain.
by Sally Bengtsson
The last colony on mainland Europe, Gibraltar is British owned and so still
has Pounds Sterling as its currency. It is a curious glimpse at an old version
of England, and it has the most mischievous monkeys you’re ever likely to
meet.
Historically the peninsula has been inhabited since 128,000 BC, with the dis-
covery of cave paintings proving that Gibraltar was the last known holdout of
the Neanderthals. Within recorded history, the first inhabitants were the
Phoenicians, around 950 BC. Subsequently, Gibraltar became known as one
of the Pillars of Hercules, after the Greek legend of the creation of the Strait
of Gibraltar by Heracles. The Carthaginians and Romans also established
semi-permanent settlements. After the collapse of the Roman Empire, Gibral-
tar came briefly under the control of the Vandals. The area later formed part
of the Visigothic Kingdom of Hispania until the Islamic conquest of Iberia in
711 AD.
The Rock of Gibraltar is home to some Barbary Macaques, the only wild
apes in Europe. Natives of Africa, no one knows how they got to Gibraltar.
They're cute but can be quite ferocious, especially if you have an ice cream
or a smart car.
As you arrive in La Linea, you'll see the way to Gibraltar. Just head towards
the huge rock, and there'll be a long line of cars waiting to go in so they can
smuggle cigarettes and alcohol out. As you walk through passport control
(don't forget your passport, you're leaving Spain!) you have to cross what ap-
pears to be a huge parking lot. It's actually Gibraltar aiport! Once on the
other side, it's about a ten-minute walk to Grand Casemates Square, Gibal-
tar's main square. From there, walk along Main Street through Gibraltar's
main shopping area. Walk the full length of the street, through Southport
Gate. There is a cable car on Red Sands Road which will take you to Apes'
Den to see the monkeys.
Gibraltar is an amazing place. Just 7 miles of property, and something for
everyone, with most of it steeped in history. The beauty of the area can’t be
denied and for that reason alone, if no other, a trip to Gibraltar should be in
your plans.
The things you will want to be sure to see in Gibraltar depend of course on
your interests. For those who are of a more city-oriented viewpoint, you’ll
want to pay a call on the diverse methods of entertainment that the area of-
fers, along with some of the vast array of clubs and night-life type entertain-
ment, while still not missing the many tax free shopping opportunities that
Gibraltar has to offer you.

Those who visit Gibraltar with a view toward history will also have a
plethora of sites that they will want to visit, each offering you a
glimpse of the fascinating past of Gibraltar from one century to the
next. Gibraltar has been settled and has had times of conflict for
more years than many countries have even existed.
Take advantage of the kindness and information that the locals are all
too willing to share with you while you’re visiting Gibraltar. The extra
bits of trivia and knowledge will give you that much more enjoyment
of Gibraltar. The tax free shopping in Gibraltar of course deserves to
be mentioned. The cost is great with the duty free status that Gibral-
tar enjoys.
When seen from a historical viewpoint, Gibraltar is unlike any other
area on earth. So many different countries have claimed Gibraltar,
each leaving an indelible mark on the area, as well as remnants of
their own occupation of Gibraltar.
As small as the area of Gibraltar is, it would literally take you a week
to see all that you can possibly see of Gibraltar, so you’re quite likely
going to have to pick and choose among what interests you the most
if your time there is limited. Among the things you’re absolutely going
to have to view are the remarkable attestations to Gibraltar’s long his-
tory and tenacity, which include the castle ruins, the walls and gates
of this incredible area.
Gibraltar is known as a well-regulated financial centre and therefore a
natural choice for a gaming jurisdiction. Whether we are talking about
casinos online, online poker or betting, Gibraltar is a popular gaming
jurisdiction for most and large gaming companies like 888 Holdings,
Bwin and Stan James are located there. Popular free betting tips sug-
gest that the number of gaming companies moving to Gibraltar will in-
crease in the coming years, which in return should provide a nice
boost in revenue for The Rock in form of gaming taxes obtained.
10 is Gibraltar National Day - expect to see lots of British flags being
waved, if only to antagonise the Spanish.
Your visit to Gibraltar will be one that you’re going to enjoy and re-
member as a compact area that offers a vast palette of things to see
and do.

luminates the secrets and mysteries of this
spellbinding romantic epic that has en-
tranced millions.
The Washington Post: "Twilight Saga" has-
n't matured along with its heroine. In fact,
the latest movie regresses a bit, delivering
more filler, less feeling and crummier CGI
than "Eclipse."

Total Film Neil Smith: “The Daniel Craig era
comes of age with a ballsy Bond that takes
brave chances and bold risks. Guess what?
Turns out you can teach an old dog new
tricks.”
Empire Kim Newman: “Skyfall is pretty
much all you could want from a 21st Century
Bond: cool but not camp, respectful of tradi-
tion but up to the moment, serious in its thrills
and relatively complex in its characters but
with the sense of fun that hasn't always been
evident lately.”Jungle Drums

Critics Reviews
Entertainment Weekly: “PA4 develops the
story ever so slightly and delivers a few good
scares, it plays like a overlong prologue for
the already-in-the-works PA5. Here's hoping
this is just the tension-racking lull before the
next big scream.”
The New York Times: “Paranormal Activity 4
will please the fans, and that should sustain
this low-budget, highly profitable franchise.”
Movieline: “The film is heavily reliant on
jump scares, but its best moments are the
ones before them, when the tension builds
without the benefit of escalating music to
queue you in to the approaching shock.”
DescriptionBond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt
her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and
destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

“I would suggest this book to anyonewho is a historical-fiction fan or toanyone who has read any of Cornwell’sother novels. I would say that if you area Cornwell fan and you haven’t read hisGrail Quest series, then go back to thefirst book Harlequin and start fromthere.”
“Cornwell at his best. All the ingredients
of a great Cornwell historical novel are
there.”
A fascinating hero and the pursuit of a
sword with mythical power - this is the
remarkable new novel by Britain's
master storyteller, which culminates
at the Battle of Poitiers in 1356. The
Hundred Years War rages on and the
bloodiest battles are yet to be fought.
Across France, towns are closing
their gates, the crops are burning and
the country stands alert to danger.
The English army, victorious at the
Battle of Crecy and led by the Black
Prince, is invading again and the
French are hunting them down.
Thomas of Hookton, an English
archer, is under orders to seek out the
lost sword of St Peter, a weapon said
to grant certain victory to whoever
possesses her.
by Cheryl ColeGoodRead Readers Reviews
“If there is anyone out there who
'thinks' they dislike Cheryl, they should
read this book. What a strong, level-
headed, inspirational woman. I was
slightly nervous to read this book in
case I had misread Cheryl's celebrity
personality.”
“For those of you rounded enough to
have an open mind and for the down
right fans. This book is awesome the
girl can seriously write.”
For the first time Cheryl tells her full
story, her way. Revealing the truth be-
hind the headlines, this is the only of-
ficial autobiography, giving the fans
the true story they've been waiting
for. Includes exclusive, personal pho-
tos. The nation's sweetheart, Cheryl
has achieved unrivalled success with
Girls Aloud, as a solo artist, a judge
on the X Factor, a fashion icon and as
the face of L'Oreal. However, the path
to fame is rarely easy and for Cheryl
it has been a colourful journey. From
happy but humble beginnings grow-
ing up on a tough Newcastle estate,
Cheryl saw firsthand the damage that
drugs and alcohol can do. But this
feisty Geordie never gave up on her
dreams of being on stage.

“Cecelia Ahern does it again. I have
been a big fan of this author since I
read her first book years ago.”
“I read this book blind, as in I didn't
know who wrote it, or even what it was
called, but after the third sentence I
knew I was hooked. I had even
laughed and cried, it was amazing.”
Journalist Kitty Logan's career is
being destroyed by scandal - and
now she faces losing the woman who
guided and taught her everything she
knew. At her terminally ill friend's bed-
side, Kitty asks what is the one story
she always wanted to write? The an-
swer lies in a file buried in Con-
stance's office: a list of one hundred
names. There is no synopsis, nothing
to explain what the story is or who
these people are. The list is simply a
mystery. But before Kitty can talk to
her friend, it is too late. With every-
thing to prove, Kitty is assigned the
most important task of her life: to
write the story her mentor never had
the opportunity to.

by Terry PratchettGoodRead Readers Reviews
“An excellent collection of short sto-
ries and other pieces. I really enjoyed
the Discworld ones the most but there
are some strong ones that do not re-
late to that universe. Not sure this will
appeal to none Pratchett fans.”
“A real insight into how Sir Terry gets
his ideas.”
In the four decades since his first
book appeared in print, Terry Pratch-
ett has become one of the world's
best-selling and best-loved authors.
Here for the first time are his short
stories and other short form fiction
collected into one volume. A "Blink of
the Screen" charts the course of
Pratchett's long writing career: from
his school days through to his first
writing job on the Bucks Free Press,
and the origins of his debut novel,
"The Carpet People"; and on again
to the dizzy mastery of the phenome-
nally successful Discworld series.
There are characters both familiar
and some yet to be discovered.

In 2006 The Club del 600 y

Baja decided to raise funds
by raffling a 1972 SEAT
600E. As members we were
expected to play our part
and sell tickets but as we live
in England for the majority
of the year and were leaving
the next day we were
excused. My husband felt
sorry for a fellow Brit. and
bought seven tickets at
random and then promptly
forgot about them. Several
months later we received an
email saying we had won!
A one in 10,000 chance had
bequethed us another classic
car to join the 1969 MGB
roadster. Telephone conver-
sations confirmed the situa-
tion and we met up with the
SEAT in November. The car
was in a sorry state and
required a good deal of work
to pass the ITV.
We then took it on its first Rally
to Albacete only to anxiously
watch the setting sun as the
miles to home decreased with
a failed dynamo. Once the
dynamo was replaced the next
important undertaking was the
interior which had totally
rotted. This was returned to
original specification by Tómas
Cuadrado of C/ San Critóbal, 8
Orihuela for a very fair price.
The bill so far had reached
3,000 Euros. Those with Clas-
sic cars know full well that this
is an ongoing project with
much fettling to get the best
out of the car and will not be
surprised that at the last
accounting the total has
almost reached 6,000 Euros.
Will we part with the car?
Never, it brings a smile to peo-
ples faces when they see it and we are always stopped in car parks

Land Rover has confirmed that it
will launch a successor to the
Defender and these two concepts
point to what we should expect of
the new look for 2015.
The current Defender stretches
back more than 60 years and very
little has changed, a recent fall in
sales suggest the need for a new
hardcore 4x4 mixed with modern
tec and loads of carbon fibre.
The new concepts have been
developed to have that unique
Land Rover feel, short front and
rear overhangs with the square
stance, high driving position
and lots of ground clearance. If
you’re a Defender owner you’ll
know it's all about strength,
agility and power to push and
pull, the new DC range is guar-
anteed to have them all.
With the DC100 Sport, Land
Rover have kept the Defender
spirit of the early canvas roof
models with fold down wind-
screens. An all round aero
screen, cut down side windows
and finished in metallic Amber.
Both concepts show the next
generation of their all terrain,
all year round vehicles.

The hatchback version of New Clio will go on sale near the end of 2012, while Clio Es-
tate and Clio RS are scheduled to
follow in the first quarter of 2013.
New Clio is instantly recognisable thanks to its front-end styling which features a promi-
nent Renault logo, set bold and
upright against a gloss black background, a signature first seen on the DeZir concept car.
This frontal treatment is made
more distinctive still by the headlights units, which include chrome details, and LED day-
time running lights.
Both inside and outside, New Clio was designed from the very beginning to take person-
alisation to a new level, from the
steering wheel to the side protection mouldings. there are countless combinations and

specific character for their New Clio based around one of the three decor themes:

tory.

It’s something I’m being asked time and timeagain and it’s a difficult one to be honest. Ihope this month we can shed some light onwhen you should say “yes” when your com-puter asks you to update something andwhen you should be wary.
Patch Tuesday…
Microsoft tries to release its new updates onthe second Tuesday of each month. It is gen-erally referred to as ‘patch Tuesday’, so youcan expect your computer to prompt you to in-stall updates around this time. Sometimesthere is an extraordinary ‘patch Tuesday’ 14days after the normal event. Operating sys-tem patches are created to plug holes in theprogramming code that runs your computer, most of them are written for specific purposesand it’s always a good idea to install thesepatches and updates as they are one of thebest ways to keep your computer both up todate and safe from problems. One of the bestways to check if there are any updates avail-able for your computer is…
Windows XP Users – Launch your webbrowser and navigate to http://windowsup-date.microsoft.com and from here you will beable to check whether your computer is up todate.
Windows Vista/Windows 7 Users – Click theStart button and type Windows Update, youwill then see a link to click on to launch Win-dows Update. From there you can check forupdates and install them if necessary
Note: if you have had the language of youroperating system changed (as seems to bean unnervingly regular occurrence here inSpain) then you may well have trouble run-ning windows update as one of the ways in
which Windows is ‘hacked’ to allow the lan-guage to be changed affects the use of Win-dows Update – this in turn of course affectsyour ability to protect your operating systemfrom malware and virues.
AntiVirus / AntiMalware
All antivirus programs have two importantdates or versions. The first is the version ofthe program itself (i.e. AVG 2013) and thesecond is the version of what are referred toas the “definitions”. These are the lists ofviruses, malware and general baddies thatthe antivirus program is able to locate and de-stroy. You should always try to be on the lat-est version of both – the virus definitions areusually automatically updated when you turnon your computer, however the antivirus pro-gram is usually not, sometimes it will nag youto remind you that there is a new version andsometimes it does not – AVG have a habit of(if you are already on the free version) offer-ing you an “upgrade” to the new version butonly offering the “paid for” version, not thefree version. Many people mistakenly takethis option and find that they are then askedfor their credit card in 30 days. There is al-ways a way to move from the old free versionto the new free version, ask your computerguy if you are not sure.
Coffee Anyone?
Java is American slang for coffee, but it alsohappens to be a programming language thatmany of us use on many web pages withouteven knowing it and it’s certainly essential ifyou want to use a website that relies on thislanguage. From time to time Java needs tobe updated and when this happens you willsee a nag either on the screen or at the bot-tom right of the screen down near the clock.
It’s fine to update Java for the same reasonsas it’s fine to update Windows; newer ver-sions of Java protect you from more securityholes.
Manufacturer Updates
Many computers come with manufacturerspecific software (for example HP Update)that helps to keep the drivers and other hard-ware related software up to date. Althoughmost of these updates are not security re-lated, it’s usually a good idea to apply them -you should become familiar with the softwarespecific to your computer and use it to updateas and when necessary.
Recovery DVD’s are Important
In the olden days, when you bought a newcomputer you were also presented with someCDs or DVDs that you were told were veryimportant and that hopefully you would neverneed to use, but that you should keep them ina safe place in case of an emergency. TheseCDs were the recovery CDs and would beused in the event of a catastrophic failure ofyour computers operating system and theywere important, because without them, youwould not be able to restore your computer toits former glory. Nowadays computer manu-facturers don’t issue DVDs when they sell youa computer but you are given the option tomake them yourself – and here’s the problem;when people are given the option to createscary, important computer related disks,THEY DON’T! So, please if you don’t haveany DVDs with your computer, it’s almost cer-tain that you have not yet created your recov-ery DVDs, so please find out how to do it andthen actually create them. If you are at all un-sure then just drop me a line at the usual ad-dress and I will be happy to help.

Little Timmy was in the garden filling in ahole when his neighbor peered over the
fence. Interested in what the cheeky-faced youngster was up to, he politely
asked, "What are you up to there, Tim?"
"My goldfish died," replied Timmy tear-fully, "and I've just buried him."
The neighbor was concerned. "That's anawfully big hole for a goldfish, isn't it?"
Little Timmy patted down the last heap ofearth then replied, "That's because he's
inside your cat!"

B: Does he smoke?
A: No, he doesn't.
B: Does he drink whiskey?
A: No, he doesn't.
B: Does he ever come home late?
A: No, he doesn't.
B: I guess you really do have the perfect

Once upon a time there were two
muffins in the microwave. Suddenly,
on of the muffins says:
"Man it's hot in here!!!!"
The other muffin exclaims,
"Look a talking muffin!!!!"
I went for a run but came back after 2 minutes
because I forgot something. I forgot I'm out of
shape and can't run for more than 2 minutes.

Tech: "Hmm. So what does your screenlook like now?"Client: "Nothing."
Tech: "Nothing?"Client: "It's blank; it won't accept anythingwhen I type."
Tech: "Are you still in WordPerfect, or didyou get out?"Client: "How do I tell?"
Tech: "Can you see the C: prompt on thescreen?"Client:"What's a sea-prompt?"
Tech: "Never mind. Can you move thecursor around on the screen?"Client: "There isn't any cursor: I told you,
it won't accept anything I type."
Tech: "Does your monitor have a powerindicator?"Client: "What's a monitor?"
Tech: "It's the thing with the screen on itthat looks like a TV. Does it have a littlelight that tells you when it's on?"Client: "I don't know."
Tech: "Well, then look on the back of themonitor and find where the power cordgoes into it. Can you see that?"Client: "Yes, I think so."
Tech: "Great. Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it's plugged into the wall."Client: ".......Yes, it is."
Tech: "When you were behind the moni-tor, did you notice that there were two ca-bles plugged into the back of it, not justone?"Client: "No."
