JUNE 2013 Dear Friends, Summer is just around the corner, and students (and teachers) are anxiously awaiting their last day of classes. The 2012-13 school year was a busy one for our Education Department. One hundred and sixty-five students competed in Scholastic Scrimmage, more than 1,200 students and their guardians took part in the Raising Readers literacy program, and the Cops N’ Kids Celebration of Reading event was a huge success, as PBS39 donated hundreds of books and other fun giveaways to local families. A special thank you to all of our hardworking facilitators and educational partners! As summer begins, so does an array of pledge programs that are both inspir- ing and entertaining. The popular Italian group Il Volo will stop by the PBS39 studios to record fundraising breaks for their newest PBS special ‘We Are Love.’ Watch for it to air June 3rd at 8:30pm. I am also looking forward to two ter- rific events coming up this month, the Capture Greater Lehigh Valley Book Re- lease Party on June 5 and the PBS39 MicroBrew Festival on June 22. At the Capture Party, come out to The Baum School of Art and be one of the first to see which photographs made it into print. This event is free and open to the public. This year’s MicroBrew Fest features 37 brewers and more than 100 brews. Live music, vendors, and microbrews… what’s not to love? As always, we thank you for your con- tinued support of PBS39. You make it all possible. Cheers! Timothy S. Fallon CEO, PBS39
