    This is the first Sunday of my vacationand I will be with my family in England,although in many ways I wish I couldbe with you because it is CorpusChristi, the Feast of the Body andBlood of Christ which celebrates thegreat gift which preserves the presenceof Jesus Christ in our churches and inour lives. Every time I walk into SaintCharles Borromeo I give thanks for theformer Pastors who placed the BlessedSacrament at the heart of our church.Its easy to take that for granted until you visit other Florida churches andhave to hunt around to find the BlessedSacrament. In many of them thetabernacle is set off to one side or in a

    completely separate chapel not visibleand not easily accessible from the main church. I suppose those architectswanted to make the point that the altar is the center of the church - and that istrue when Mass is being celebrated and the community is present. Yet when wecome to church on our own it is a deep seated Catholic instinct which leads usto seek the tabernacle so that we can pray in the presence of the Lord.

    At Saint Charles the tabernacle is well lit so that it is a natural focus of devotionas we prepare for Mass; and the design of the chapel behind the tabernacleprovides a perfect place for quiet prayer at any time. We keep the church openfrom about 7:30 in the morning to 5 in the evening (except Sunday evenings)so it is easy to experience the special blessing of prayer in the presence of Jesus;

    and do not forget that we have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, exposed inthe monstrance, in the chapel every Friday from after the 9:00 am Mass untilnoon.

    This weekend you will be joined by Father Francis, a missionary priest from theDiocese of Jinja in Uganda, East Africa. Once a year the Diocese of Orlandoinvites missionaries to visit each parish to make an annual appeal for their workin mission territories (parishes, orphanages, schools, hospitals) and at the sametime to make us more aware of the worldwide Church. It is very appropriatethat Father Francis comes to us at Corpus Christi when Saint Paul reminds us inthe second reading Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, areone body, for we all partake of the one loaf. Whether we are in acomfortable church in Orlando, in a small church in the English countryside or

    in a roughly constructed mission church in Africa, we are united as brothers andsisters in the Body of Christ and we all receive the same gift of Jesus Himself.

    The parish office will reopen Tuesday, July 5th, 7:30am to 3:30pm.

    Despite her limited resources, the Churchof Jinga has been able to make someprogress in rehabilitating the Diocese. This

    has been possible because the politicalsituation in Uganda has improved a greatdeal over the past several years. We justconcluded a relatively peaceful election onthe 18th of February. We are alwaysmindful that the Churchs work is bothspiritual and material. Our people look tothe Church as the Good Samaritan of theGospel, and we look to friends such as youto make this parable existential.

    All contributions, no matter the size,are most appreciated.
