33 Essential ingredients  are what make up Max A.R.M. and why it is the best formula available on the
market. There is a scientific purpose and reason for the exact amount of each one of them. The  Max A.R.M.
formula mirrors the specific recovery guidelines consistent with ACSM, ISSN and NSCA, three of the most
respected organizations in our field.
•  MACROS – The correct amount of the highest quality triple filtered and cold processed Whey Protein Isolate for
immediate protein uptake and absorption into muscle cells. The correct amount of a combination of the highest
quality complex and simple carbohydrates to help shuttle the protein into the muscle.
•  HEAT SHOCK ACTIVATORS – Optimizes recovery time and makes your post workout recovery more efficient.
•  MTOR ACTIVATORS – Promotes muscle synthesis and prevents breakdown of muscle tissue which in turn
enhances recovery time and growth.
•  BCAA’s – Critical to enhancing the anabolic effects on protein synthesis, muscle cell growth and decreasing
the rate of muscle protein breakdown mediated through molecular signaling pathways.
• GLUTAMINE & GLUT 4 ACTIVATORS – Most athletes are deficient in this amino acid whose primary
function is cellular and muscle recovery.
• CREATINE  – a multi-blend of the highest quality patented creatines to improve the anabolic window.
Numerous studies have concluded that ingestion of creatine is most effective post exercise because of its
effects on muscle cell growth during the anabolic window.
•  ELECTROLYTE BLEND – Essential to replace the loss of these nutrients during high intensity training.
• VITAMIN BLEND – Essential to support energy needed for recovery.
Max A.R.M. is the total package for complete recovery science using the highest quality ingredients available.

his son Colton's graduation from
U.S. Marine Corps Boot Camp.
Some of you may know that my
husband and I were both doing
our own "boot camp" complete
with meal plans from Max
Muscle (thank you again Megan
Casey at Max Muscle South
Metro in Colorado for all the love, knowledge and support!). I'm
proud to say he and I both lost about 15 pounds each! YAY! But that
isn't what I want to talk about right now. I want to talk about some
important observations I had at Colton's graduation. Here goes:
No. 1: Marines are PROUD to be Marines. They share a bond unlike
any I've ever encountered before. It's impressive! OOO-RAH!
No. 2: The Marine Corps values of Honor, Courage, and
Commitment are pounded into recruits during boot camp.
Everything they learn and do from here on out is based upon these
core tenets. I can attest firsthand to how much these values were
imbedded into my own husband's character (he served in the
Marine Corps from 1990 to 1998, and for part of that time, he was a
drill instructor at the base in San Diego).
No. 3: Seeing the pride on my husband's face watching his son
(who has wanted to follow in his dad's footsteps and become
a Marine since he was a little boy) graduate from boot camp is
something I will never forget.
Why am I mentioning all this? Well, as this issue is dedicated to
fathers, it is my belief that dads should be just as proud to be dads
as Marines are to be Marines. With that pride comes responsibilityto be great role models and the drive to live lives filled with honor,
respect, and commitment. If dads could possess a fraction of the
bond Marines share, they could use that bond to encourage each
other and won't be afraid to call each other out on bad behaviors,
such as sedentary lifestyles and having a "Dad Bod" (pg. 30).
For me, to see life come full circle for my husband watching
his boy become a man and Marine is something I know not every
dad gets to see, but boy how special it was to witness it first hand.
I'm proud my husband has been such a great role model to his
boys. And now that he's dialed in his nutrition and is working out
regularly, too (Colton was thoroughly impressed with how much
muscle his dad had put on!), he'll be an even greater role model!
This month, let's encourage all our dads out there to eat well, live healthy, and take care of themselves. Let's thank them for
being good role models, for their hard work and dedication to their
families, and for being there for us. If you don't have a father, thank
other dads you might know who have had a positive influence in
your life. Better yet, give the dads in your life this magazine as it is
packed with great info to help them live healthy and fit!
Until next time,

making the effort to stay in shape
despite having their own busy
lives while trying to raise kids and
maintain a household. This month,
we honor the other half of that
equation: Dads.
#Dadbod has become a buzz
word on social media, but it really has a negative connotation. If
you are getting called out for having a "dad bod," it’s not a good
thing. I thought about why that is and it’s probably because most
dads are so busy trying to balance work and family that they don’t
have time for themselves. Couple that with the aging process and decline of the hormone that makes us men – testosterone – and we
are all doomed to have dad bods! So what do we do about it?
The good news is we have a great issue focused on dads this
month and it's packed full of articles on how to get in your best shape
ever while still taking care of your dad responsibilities! We’ve also
got some great natural testosterone boosters to help you get those
testosterone levels back up to give you the energy and strength you
need to get your butt back in the gym. 2TX is Max Muscle Nutrition’s
No. 1 selling testosterone booster and is available exclusively at Max
Muscle stores. There’s also a new testosterone booster by MLab
called MyT arriving in Max Muscle stores this summer as a less expensive option for those of you on a budget.

How Much Exercise Do I Need? We all know that workouts are good for us. But how
much exercise is enough to help us to live a long and
healthy life? Recent research published in JAMA Internal Medicine  suggests that the sweet spot is three times
more than the 150 minute weekly guideline from several
health organizations – or 450 minutes, a little more than
an hour per day. Those who comply with the current 150

OK, GUYS, LET’S BE HONEST. How long has it been since you went to

The trouble with this? The risks of not seeking regular health care can
be dangerous, because many health conditions don’t show clear signs and

to do it. This is the month that we celebrate fathers – and Father’s Day

50,” said Dr. Teitelbaum; those with above-average risk factors should
begin testing at age 40, or even earlier. Frequency of testing depends

bring yourself to have a colonoscopy, there are several other tests available,
including Cologuard, a stool DNA test that you can use at home to
detect colon cancer and some polyps.
According to Dr. Leavey, this test is not indicated for those with high
risk, but may be useful for those of average risk who can’t undergo
colonoscopy or fear the examination.
  DIABETES SCREENING
Men are more likely than woman to
have undiagnosed diabetes type 2, a condition that causes few or no symptoms in early stages, and if left
untreated, can lead to stroke and
heart disease, kidney failure, eye disease, and nerve damage. High
risk factors include certain ethnic populations such as African American
and American Indian, those with a family history of diabetes, those
with high blood pressure and high cholesterol, being overweight and
inactive, and those older than age 45.
When To Get It:  Most health organizations suggest diabetes

higher risk of developing heart disease than women do,
and having high cholesterol is one factor that contributes to this. A
cholesterol screening is a blood test that will determine your levels of high

“good” cholesterol) and low density lipoprotein (LDL, considered “bad” cholesterol), as well as harmful blood
fats called triglycerides. Your doctor
Why Do Women Live Longer? Take one look around most nursing homes, and you’ll see many more women
than men. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
men die at higher rates than women from the top 10 causes of death and on
average, die almost five years earlier than women. But why? According to
research:
1. Men are more likely to have riskier jobs, like firefighting, military combat, construction, and commercial fishing.
2. Men take bigger risks, such as smoking or drinking to excess, driving drunk, biking
without helmets, and fighting.
3. Men avoid doctors. In fact, according to the Men’s Health Network, women are 100
percent more likely to visit the doctor for preventive services than men.
4. Men fail to seek care for mental health, and are more likely to successfully commit
suicide.
5. Men are often less socially connected than women, which for unknown reasons, results
in a higher death rate.
6. Men have lower estrogen levels, and estrogen protects the heart. But even when
women’s estrogen levels drop at menopause, men still have a higher rate of death
from heart disease, which may be due to untreated conditions such as high cholesterol
or high blood pressure.

High Tech TestsShould you take advantage of tests that aren’t generally offered by your primary care
physician, such as cardiovascular screening through a company like Life Line Screening?
Or request low-dose CT scanning to screen for early lung cancer? Demand an exercise
stress test even if you have no symptoms?
These are individual decisions and should be carefully considered, say the experts.
While the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that those ages 55 and older
with a 30 pack-year history of smoking (1 pack a day for 30 years or 2 packs a day for
15 years) and who are still smoking or have quit within the past 15 years get lung cancer
screenings, “This can start you down a slippery slope, too,” said Jacob Teitelbaum, MD,
internist and co-author of Real Cause, Real Cure . “The problem is that if anything is seen
on the test, even something that may not represent cancer or a cancer that would kill you
– it will be further investigated. This means a biopsy and maybe further treatment, with
physical, financial, and emotional risks.” As for cardiovascular testing through companies like Life Line, you will pay the entire
cost, as insurance companies won’t pay for these tests unless you have symptoms. But
depending upon your risk factors, the cost may be worth it, said Stephen Sinatra, MD,
cardiologist and co-author of “Health Revelations From Heaven and Earth.” “Any time there
is a family history of sudden death or heart attack in someone under 50, family members
should be screened vigorously,” he recommended.
Cardiovascular screening tests may include carotid artery and peripheral artery
ultrasound to check for plaque buildup, abdominal and thoracic aneurysm screening, and
exercise stress testing.
And, according to Dr. Sinatra, anyone over 40 years old who is thinking of participating
in interval training should always be properly screened with an exercise stress test prior to
starting. “This is the kind of exercise that scares me,” he said. “Aggressive interval training,
especially if you’re not used to it, can raise the blood pressure and heart rate, and put stress on the heart. This can cause a plaque rupture, which can lead to sudden coronary death.”
will use this information along with other health information, to determine
whether you need to modify your lifestyle or even consider medication
to lower your cholesterol and reduce your risk for heart disease. Lifestyle
changes are especially important for those who have metabolic
syndrome, said Dr. Teitelbaum, which
is a condition in which you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and pre-diabetes or diabetes; metabolic
syndrome can greatly increase your risk of heart disease.
When To Get It:  The American Heart  Association suggests that beginning
at age 20, you should get your cholesterol levels checked every 4 to
6 years as part of a cardiovascular risk assessment. If you have a family
history of high cholesterol or heart disease, your doc may recommend
more frequent testing.
PROSTATE CANCER EXAM Prostate cancer is the most common
cancer among men, after skin cancer; it may grow slowly and not need
treatment for a while or at all, or (less often), it may act aggressively and need
immediate treatment, such as surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation. The risk of
prostate cancer rises with age, and is also higher in those of African American
descent or with a family history of
prostate cancer. A prostate cancer exam consists of a rectal exam (usually),

SKIN CANCER SCREENING Men are more likely than women
to get all forms of skin cancer, including basal cell and squamous cell
carcinomas, both highly treatable skin
cancers, and the more serious but less common melanoma.
When To Get It:  Current guidelines don’t
call for a particular frequency of skin cancer screening for adults at average
risk, although most doctors do a visual examination of the skin during
a preventive health exam. For those with a family history of melanoma,
though, yearly skin inspections should begin at age 20. Periodic self-
inspection of your skin and reporting
of any changes to your physician will assure a better outcome if you do

EARLY YEARS
Michael’s success as an actor hasn’t come easy. In fact, it was his
upbringing and childhood experiences that taught him early on that hard
work and focus were the keys to what his heart desired.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Michael’s family moved to Bridgeport, CT when
he was 8 years old. Living in a tough neighborhood taught him to be street
smart at an early age. It was during this time that he met his best friend,
IFBB professional bodybuilder Troy  Alves and Troy’s brother, Johnny. The
three friends shared a love for martial arts. When Troy and Johnny enrolled
into karate, Michael asked his mother if he could sign up. “Mom said no, but
that didn’t stop me,” Michael says with a laugh, “I would go with Troy and
Johnny each week to class and learnfrom the sidelines, then go home to work on what I’d learned. I learned
way more than they did!” Each week in class, Michael would
continue performing his moves alongside the other students. “One
day, I caught the eye of the teacher and he asked, ‘Who taught you?’ He
was amazed that I had perfect form and was able to execute the moves
with precision. When I told him that I learned from him on the sidelines,
he was in awe and offered me free classes!” Michael admits. By age 13,
he’d earned a black belt and was studying several styles that would
result in him winning several national level competitions.
BITTEN BY THE ACTING BUG
 After graduating from high school,
Michael attended college to become a teacher. While at the University of
Connecticut, he took acting classes for fun and was hooked. “I loved the
outlet that acting provided,” he shares.  “Being in front of people, portraying
other characters and getting a reaction was an amazing feeling. Acting classes
were a fun college hobby.” When Michael graduated from
college, he became a Special Education

York and even got an agent hoping to get acting ‘out of my system.’ Teaching provided me a way to pay my bills,
but I was still hoping to catch my ‘big break.’”
Although Michael booked jobs here and there while on summer breaks
from teaching, things didn’t seem to move as quickly as Michael had
wanted and he became frustrated. “Just as soon as I considered quitting
acting, I was cast as  Tom Robinson
in the off- Broadway

opportunities in L.A. in comparison to New York,” he says. “I booked a lot
of television shows when I got here, worked hard, and put myself out
there.” Michael’s breakout role was being

improve performance but why are there so many different ratios? A common question asked is what
is the best ratio to be used in a BCAA blend? Is it 2:1:1, 5:1:1, 8:1:1 or 10:1:1?
The optimal ratio of the BCAA is 2:1:1 and the primary reason is that this is the ratio that naturally
occurs in foods, the ratio found in muscle tissue and the ratio supported by the majority of published
scientific studies on the benefits of BCAA supplementation for muscle growth, energy and fat loss.
The proper 2:1:1  represents the ratio of leucine:valine:isoleucine. Higher amounts of leucine in a
BCAA formula has not been shown in scientific studies to be any more beneficial than in the 2:1:1
ratio. In fact, higher leucine content may actually be detrimental in outcompeting valine and isoleucine
for absorption, assimilation into muscle tissues and function. Valine helps blunt fatigue during exercise
and isoleucine may provide benefits in
promoting fat burning during exercise.
So why then do you see so many BCAA blends on the market with modified ratios of
the BCAA’s? The answer is simple – it costs
less to make so they make more PROFIT off
of you!
optimal ratio that is supported by published
science for all types of exercise, muscle
growth, recovery and even fat loss. There are
no proven additional benefits of higher ratios of leucine in addition to wasting money and
sabotaging the benefits.
2:1:1 RATIO!

Don’t Compare Secondly, don’t compare yourself
to where you were when you were at your best. You must set realistic expectations and plot your course

is one plan of attack in going from Dad Bod to Fit Dad. As a result, you will
have a highly functioning existence as a father who can show your kids that,
yes, you still have it.
1. Assess your food intake by
writing down everything that goes in your mouth for the next

The truth that most supplement companies don’t want you to know is too many stimulant based ingredients actually counteract the
effectiveness of what a pre-workout is supposed to do. Too many stimulants or the incorrect doses:
—Act to prevent blood flow which in turn limits your pump, strength, endurance and power.
—Can dehydrate you during your workout
—Negatively affects your ability to properly recover afterwards. —Makes it harder to focus
 An effective pre-workout should:
• Deliver a natural clean energy boost with no post-training crash
• Fuel your muscles for increased strength and power
• Delay muscle onset fatigue
• Promote intensity and mental focus
• Optimize fluid and electrolyte levels
• Be safe to use
FBX 2.0 is the most effective pre-workout formula available because it does all of these things and is driven by clinically validated and
effective doses of the following patented ingredients making it superior to the competition:
• 1.5g of AGMass™ Agmatine Sulfate – newest and most cutting edge nitric oxide producer for mind-blowing pumps
• 3.2g CarnoSyn® Beta-Alanine – the most powerful intracellular buffer so you can train harder and prevent muscle fatigue
•  2.5g Creapure® Creatine Monohydrate – the finest and purest creatine in the world to generate muscle power and sustain muscle energy and endurance
• Citrulline malate – additional nitric oxide to help you kick your workout into overdrive
•  L-Glutamine – improves recovery time and supports GH levels
• Caffeine – Stimulates fat use during exercise without counteracting the effects of the other performance ingredients
• Guarana – increases alertness and drive for greater training intensity
• Ginseng – additional support for focus and energy
•  Adenosine – makes ATP, the primary energy molecule in the body
•  L-Tyrosine – makes key neurotransmitters for focus and concentration • Vinpocetine – delivers laser focus and concentration
•  Evodiamine – thermogenic that promotes energy without counteracting the effectiveness of the formula
• Contains no illegal or potentially dangerous chemicals like 1,3 DMAA, DMBA, BMPEA, dendrobium or picamilon
FBX 2.0 is the most advanced pre-training formula available, it delivers everything you need and excludes everything you don’t! If you

What does it mean to you to be a good role model to your children? Being a good role model to my children means to lead by the example that you hope your children wil l follow. I
consider this task to be one of the toughest challenges of being a father. While children may hear what you say, they
extensively witness what you do. When life throws curve balls your way, your children witness how you respond. It is during the times you are tested that actions speak louder than words. Instead of trying to lead a perfect li fe, I have
tried to gracefully embrace life's wins and learn from my failures. Leading my life with actions such as hard work,
desire, dedication, and discipline have always been part of my character. However, leading my l ife with actions such as
patience, love, and unselfishness have been slowly learned over time. Of course, I'm still trying to improve.

How do you juggle being a dad, a competitor, training, eating right, and everything else that you do? This juggling act has been quite difficult to perfect, but
over time I have learned how to manage time more
effectively. When competition time is near, there is little free time to spare. In order to successfully balance
family life, it usually means waking up well before my
family so that I can take care of business. Often my
wife and/or one of the kids will join me on the fitness journey while I train in
the early mornings and/or late evenings, but I have learned not to put that
expectation on anybody else except for myself. In regards to food, I follow
the same rule. Although good food is always available, I know that it is only
me who is on a strict diet and not the rest of the family. I also try to carve
out time during the week that is exclusive family time. This might mean
watching a movie, going on a hike, or going shopping. Working a 55-60 hour
week along with training, food prep, and family time is never an easy task.
However, nothing rewarding is ever easy.

TRAINING THE YOUTH OF TOMORROW
Leonard Russell, II, 46, from Corona, CA operates Adrenaline Athletic
Training, where, for the past 9 years, he has served as the Director of
Training helping youth athletes get faster, stronger, and better at their
sports. His love of training the next generation of athletes comes from his
own experience as an NFL football player. Leonard was an All-American
running back at Long Beach Polytechnic High School and played
collegiate football at Arizona State University, where he continued to
excel in the sport leading him to be drafted in 1991 by the New England
Patriots in the first round as the 14th pick, the first running back drafted
that year. He was named NFL Rookie of the Year in 1991 as he led all
running backs in rushing with over 900 yards. In 1993, he was selected to
be an alternate in the Pro Bowl after rushing for over 1,000 yards.
After retiring from the NFL, Leonard, who married his childhood
sweetheart, Tasha, 21 years ago, dedicated his time to training aspiringathletes at Adrenaline Athletic Training, working with his son, 25-year-old
Leonard Russell, III. For the Russells, training is a family affair. Leonard's
special-needs daughter, Hollan, 22, helps out with cleaning at the facility
and his youngest son, Lantz, 13, is being trained by his older brother.
Leonard says watching his boys train together is a big highlight of his day.
Leonard works with Max Muscle Nutrition Corona franchisees David

to help give back to the community. Giving back to the community
has always been a priority and Leonard serves on the board of The
