We wil l al l have DIY stories to tel l . Maybeyou too have put your foot through theattic floor or stepped off a ladder into apot of emulsion. A friend has the DIYmotto ‘why pay a man £50 to do a jobwhen you can do it yourself for £300! ’ I tdoes seem that some jobs are genuinelybest left to the experts who approach thejob with the right tools, suitable rawmaterials and experience.

Jesus; a carpenter from Nazareth hadspent several years teaching a group oftwelve students, not the skil ls for amortise joint, but the wisdom, abil ity, power and insight to teach the world ofGod’s loving forgiveness.

The training was ful l-time residential ,24/7. No multiple choice or distancelearning, just old fashioned intensivecramming. During this period, Jesusextensively advertised the fact that hewould be wrongly accused and executed. He confirmed that his apprentices shouldnot lose heart but should remain strongfor he would not ultimately be defeatedby death. And yet these Christians, themost privi leged of men, al l desertedJesus within twenty minutes of trouble.

What does it show us? That unl ike DIY,when the professional craftsman wouldrightly scoff at my handy work and tool kit(which consists of a bent masonry dri l l bitand a metal fi le last used to stir glosspaint) there are no professionalChristians. There are instead professingChristians who receive God’sforgiveness but who ought never for amoment to pretend to have finished theapprenticeship and have everythingsorted!

Bathford Village Shop

New Chiller

We are all del ighted with the recentlyinstal led replacement chil ler cabinet. Many favourable comments have beenheard. We hope that, as well as lookinggood and offering more storage, it wil l bemore economical to run than theelectricity guzzl ing monsters it replaces.

The task of removing the old cabinetsand instal l ing the new one was anextremely heavy one (l iteral ly) and wewere very grateful for the help wereceived. . . . huge thanks to all whoparticipated.

Laptop

Is there anyone who can offer the shopa no longer used Wireless EnabledLaptop computer? This would greatlyfacil itate accounting and stock-taking.We find that our shop’s thick walls do notal low an adequate Wifi signal to reachthe office. A donated laptop would begrateful ly received or, alternatively, a lowcost used machine.

Missing Trolley

Has anyone seen our missingnewspaper delivery trol ley? One of our4 trol leys disappeared mysteriouslyrecently. The trol leys are essential ,especial ly when delivering the veryheavy weekend loads of papers andmagazines. Please tel l us in the shop ifyou know of the whereabouts of themissing trol ley.

Twinning News

Last chance for France!

This is your last chance in 2011 to jointhe Bathford and Kingsdown TwinningAssociation visit to Artannes (8th - 1 2thJuly). A group of residents is off toFrance to stay with host famil ies in thecharming vil lage of Artannes. We wil l beenjoying their hospital ity while getting toknow them and the area better.

We wil l offer them the best (and worst)of our talent. The brave and tuneful areinvited to join in a comic song. The boldand dramatic could take part in a mini-pantomime. Or you could just sit in theaudience and be amused by ourofferings and theirs.

The Artannais haven’t given us ful ldetai ls of the programme yet but it wil lprobably include a wonderful mix ofregional food and wine, architecture, culture and having a laugh.

We anticipate that about 2 dozen peoplewil l be going - why not be one of them? Most of us make our way by ferry anddrive. I t might be possible to sharetransport. Others choose to travel bypublic transport.

Even if you have never dipped your toeinto the waters of Artannes, come on,take the plunge! Join us for a weekendof friendship and fun. And it doesn’tmatter if you can’t speak any French!
