Jesus. The play, lasting about sevenhours, is now performed repeatedly overthe course of five months during everyyear ending in zero (next in 2020). I tinvolves over 2,000 performers, musicians, and stage technicians (abouthalf of the vil lage) and comprisesspoken dramatic text, musical andchoral accompaniment.

Whilst not claiming to be quite asambitious in terms of scale as theresidents of Oberammergau, the 70residents of Bathford taking part areequally passionate and committed. Theyhope to offer al l who come to see theperformances a unique and specialexperience of seeing the story of JesusChrist come to l ife. You may be pleasedto hear the performance wil l only lasttwo and a half hours, not seven hoursnor even seven days as some of theoriginal ones did!

Performances 2:00pm 1 4 July andrepeated at 2:00pm 1 5 July beginning atSycamore House garden. Tickets fromthe community Shop £5 adults £3children

From the Vicarage... .When I first arrived in Bathford one of thefirst stories I was told was about thewonderful Passion Play that had beenput on in Bathford in 2004. Very quickly Iwas shown photographs of the event andsoon realised what an ambitious andextraordinary event it had been. Icouldn’t quite believe it then when I wastold that many of the folk who wereinvolved in the 2004 performance wantedto stage another Passion Play. I thoughtproducing an event l ike this once in al ifetime would have been enough foranybody, but not for Cathy Adeane andher team.

The enthusiasm amongst those involvedin the Passion Play is amazing and Ithink we are going to be in for a treat asthe Passion Play is staged on July 1 4and 1 5 in the beautiful gardens ofSycamore House, the churchyard andChurch. We wil l be joining a very longhistory of communities that haveperformed such plays. They beganacross Europe in the Middle Ages asEaster plays but by the fifteenth centurythey had moved away from the church, were translated from Latin into thevernacular and magnificent productionswere staged in public squares, oftenlasting for days. With the Reformation,Passion Plays came to be performedmore rarely and it was only at the end ofthe nineteenth century that they began tomake a resurgence.

The chief survivor of the original modernPassion Play is the OberammergauPassion Play, first performed in theBavarian vil lage of Oberammergau in1 634, and now performed every tenyears. The town's residents vowed that ifGod spared them from the effects of thebubonic plague ravaging the region, theywould produce a play every ten yearsthereafter, depicting the l ife and death of

Carriage of mobility Scooters on lowfloor buses – The Confederation ofPassenger Transport has developed avoluntary Code of Conduct for the Useand Acceptance of Mobil ity Scooters onLow Floor Buses as the design ofmodern buses makes them suitable forthe carriage of mobil ity scooters notexceeding a specified size and weight. Most major bus operators have adoptedthe Code. Any user of a Type 2 designof a mobil ity scooter can request anassessment with their bus operator to

check whether their scooter fal ls withinthe provisions of the Code. There are anumber of conditions which need to bemet. Anyone wanting more detai ls aboutthe carriage of mobil ity scooters on lowfloor buses should contact the Clerk whocan send them a leaflet. Users ofelectric wheelchairs that do not exceedthe standard reference wheelchairdimensions are not affected by the Code.

Recycling of food waste – Residentsare reminded that cooked and raw foodwaste can be recycled and is collectedas part of the weekly kerbside collection.B&NES has provided all residents with alockable black bin and a smaller caddyfor the collection of food waste. TheParish Council would encourage allresidents to use the food recyclingservice. Putting food waste in thelockable bin rather than in black sacksreduces the l ikel ihood of refuse sacksbeing split by animals and birds whichwil l in turn help to keep the vil lage cleanand tidy.
