Catholic Charities—Diocese Of Paterson

Annual Corpus Christi Food Collection for the Poor

Due to the unprecedented requests for assistance from Catholic Charities’ food pantries and in order to fulfill our obligations to the poor, Bishop Serratel-li has authorized a Diocesan-wide food collection in all parishes and agencies on the Feast of Corpus Christi, Saturday/Sunday, June 22nd—23rd, 2019. We are all being asked to bring assorted food prod-ucts on that day.

We have been asked to provide Pancake Mix and Syrup.

Cash/Check donations will also be accepted made payable to Catholic Charities or online at www.ccpaterson.org/corpus Please mark Saturday and Sunday, June 22nd—23rd as the food collection day in order to help those in need in our Diocesan communities of Morris, Passaic and Sussex Counties.

Our 40th Anniversary Celebration was such a wonderful event! We were truly blessed with perfect weather, delicious food, fun entertainment and the warm company of our parish friends and families.

Our special day began with a beautiful Mass celebrated by Fr. Martin McDonnell along with con-celebrants Fr. Tim Dowling, Fr. Michal Szwarc, Fr. Kieran McHugh, Fr. Ed Reading; and with Deacons Keith Harris and Tom Sullivan. It was heart-warming to also see many of our ‘Founding Families’ as well. Altogether, approximately 325 were in attendance!

We wish to especially thank our Celebration Committee: Annie Bienko, Candy Church, Cathy Church, Irene Finnan, Pat Holdt, Sandy Wray and Bev Wroblewski. Additional volunteers included Kathy and Fred Liloia, Karen Mehl, Pat Paviak and Patricia Salinger. Special thanks to our Confirmation Students: Zachary, Noelle, Ali, Bella, Tara, Julia, Ryan, Grace, Josh, Ty, Peter and James. Additionally, we need to thank Bob Gallagher for the memorable slide show; our parking crew: John Dashisen, Walter Harden, Dan E. Holdt and Dan M. Holdt; Ken and his crew from Bestway Cleaning Service for both set-up and clean-up; Hayek’s Market in Newton for all of the delicious food; Al Louis Entertainment for the music; Cahill Farms for the beautiful centerpieces and Sussex Rental for the tents and grills. It took many hands to pull everything together so beautifully and we sincerely thank everyone involved (and apologize if we inadvertently left anyone out).

Don’t miss our Celebration Mass with Bishop Serratelli on Saturday, June 22nd at 5:00 pm, after which we will have many more people to acknowledge.

Please visit our Parish Website for all the beautiful pictures that commemorate the day.

Please join His Holiness, Pope Francis, who has chosen the following intention to be prayed for during the month of June.

Evangelization: That priests, through the modesty and humility of their lives, commit themselves actively to a solidarity with those who are most poor.

HOLY FATHER’S PRAYER INTENTION ATTENTION!! ATTENTION!!

The parking lot will be repaired and repaved begin-ning the first weekend of July. The first phase will in-volve removing the top layer thus leaving rough pave-ment exposed for weekend Mass. The next phase will consist of laying the blacktop, etc. The goal is to have

the parking lot completed within the week.

FAITH FORMATION NOTES

Family Connection (GOSPEL - John 16:12-15) Think of the last time you witnessed an act of selfless love in your family. Parents and caregivers of all kinds are called upon to act selflessly every day. Family life calls us to share selfless love with one another. God is the model for us of selfless love. There was no need for God to create our planet or the creatures that inhabit it; it was an act of selfless love. There was also no need for God to send his only Son to save us. That too was an act of selfless love. As we draw closer to God and the mystery of the Trinity, we learn about God's love. God has lavished us with love in the persons of the Son and the Spirit, who in turn nurture in us the desire to do the same. When we open ourselves to be filled with an awareness of the divine life within us, we participate in the end-less spiral of love that leads to eternal life. Whenever we share selfless love in the family, we are sharing in the life of the Trinity. (Loyola Press)
