Pastor’s Corner (continued from page 1)

Happy Father’s Day to my brother priests in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis! They have served and continue to serve us to the best of their ability in the Lord. They are my brothers in the “presbyterate” (a Greek based word meaning ‘a gathering of elders’ – and at this point, we are more than not “elder”!) 102 (at last count) of these men will gather at St. Meinrad this week for our bi-annual convocation. Please pray for us as we listen, learn, pray, laugh and remember our call to ministry and our joy in living it. And join us in praying for those who have served and now enjoy eternity with the Lord! Beyond Father’s Day greetings, let me harken back to Christmas 2017. The Christmas Gift to the parish was for façade lighting on our beautiful church. Together we raised $15,364 (to date). The designs are being finalized. Then the contractors will bid the project. Past estimates ranged between $16,000 and $22,000. Once we decide the winning bid, we will proceed with the project, hoping to complete it by the Fall. Keep an eye out for another progress report! And thanks for your support of this beautification of our grounds, announcing to all who enter the Irvington area from the west that the church is alive, well and present in our area!

SVdP Just Goes On Going On When the Saint Vincent de Paul Society is mentioned, different images and scen- arios can fill our mind's eye. It may be our own parish conference doing home visits and filling Christmas baskets and distributing gifts, or it might be the archdiocesan council which serves as a clearing house for assistance requests for all parishes

and operates the large pantry on 30th St. and the distribution warehouse and resale shop on Leota St. And, there are the multitude of services and programs which SVdP sponsors, like the Saving Lives Forever mentoring program which is already showing success. All that SVdP does, on any level, is done by volunteers and depends on the financial support of donors. We can all support SVdP on one or

more levels; at OLL through our monthly envelopes, on the archdiocesan level, with direct donations, or by shopping at the Mission 27 Resale store at 132 Leota St., just south of Southeastern, west of Second Helpings.

See the flier on SVdP services in the bulletin.

Thank you to all for the generous effort made. It was gratefully received at Downey Pantry. – Lucy Miller

Attention Business Owners, Professionals and Self Employed

Liturgical Publications Inc. (LPI), will have Maureen Geis, our advertising representative visiting our business office within the next few weeks to service our publication. We would like to thank our present advertisers for renewing their ad and thereby continuing their support. For those interested in placing a new ad, this is your opportunity.

Our publication is a primary way we use to communicate with you. Through our arrangement with Liturgical Publications Inc., we do not pay for the publication printing, which saves us thousands of dollars every year. Our publication is supported through the generosity of the advertisers—many of whom are our own members or members of our local community. During these difficult economic times, please support our advertisers with your patronage. Tell business owners that you appreciate their support of our publication through their advertising. This is one small way we can work within our own community to weather these challenging times. A strong and vibrant publi-cation is good for our community and a strong business community is good for our Church.

To obtain information about advertising for the new publication year, please contact our office or Maureen Geis directly @ 740-381-4563 and email [email protected]

Opportunity to Learn About Global Solidarity Ambassador for CRS

In the fall of 2016, I agreed to act as CRS Global Solidarity Ambassador at OLL. This ministry acts to support and promote Catholic Relief Service programs and its overall mission in our parish and our archdiocese. Catholic Relief Service serves as the major arm of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in meeting the needs of the poor in various parts of the world. During the course of the year, articles explain-ing the many and varied ways in which CRS combats poverty throughout the world have appeared in the parish bulletin. Also, at OLL, programs such as Rice Bowl during Lent and an Ethical Trade Market (formerly Fair Trade) featuring articles and food products from farmer-growers and artisans, in various countries, have been used to raise awareness and funds for CRS. Our Lady of Lourdes' parish family has been generous and involved in sustaining both of these programs. For this ministry to continue to flourish, at OLL, it will require additional involvement and leadership in the future as I intend to leave Indianapolis in the next 2-2 1/2 years. I would like to work with someone in that time to learn more about this ministry and eventually take over its implementa-tion. A great opportunity to learn about the role of Global Ambassador will be a retreat experience, at the end of the month, sponsored by the archdiocesan office of CRS for the various Global Ambassadors in other parishes in the archdiocese. It will be held Saturday, June 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at a location in Indianapolis yet to be announced. I will be going, and I would love to have a companion(s) to learn more about this most important and gratifying parish ministry. This is the time of year when being open to the Holy Spirit receives great emphasis in our scrip-ture readings and focus in our feast days. Our own spiritual movement stressed stewardship and urged us to go deep within ourselves to listen to the Spirit moving us in the direction to which God calls us. Is the Holy Spirit calling you to this ministry?

For further information or discernment please talk to Fr. Rick or to me, Lucy Miller: 317-515-9727 or [email protected]
