Dear Friends, When I think about parish life I have so many images that describe what happens in this life. As the title of my weekly article suggests, it’s “Life Together”. Last week the Parish Council of Ministers met and one of the pieces of the meeting was a guided reflection/discussion on the Parish Mission Statement which is published weekly on the front cover of the bulletin. That Mission statement was developed by the Parish Council of Ministers and the Long Range Planning Group that eventually led to the formulation of the Capital Campaign. The Parish Mission Statement tells us what we should be doing as a Parish. It tells us where our money should be spent, where energies should produce results. If we are doing something that does not fit with this Mission, then we should not be doing it. So, this past weekend these kinds of things were going on in the parish: a Marriage Enrichment Day; an Adult Faith Formation Committee meeting on Catholic Evangelization; planning for a funeral; Anointing at a local Hospital; collection for House in a Box, and Sunday Eucharist. All of these activities were expressions of how our Catholic Church community lives out the Mission of Christ put into our context. You can see on the construction site that the walls of the gymnasium are starting to be filled in. The outline of the gym’s size is coming into shape. The Pre School’s renovations are almost complete including a new playground. There will be an open house for these renovations in early August. Dry weather helps move us forward. You’ve heard me say this many times-but one more time won’t hurt: if you have not yet given to the Capital Campaign either in a pledge amount or in a one-time gift, please help us with this effort. The more we have collected in pledges and gifts, the less will be our debt for borrowing. Sunday afternoon August 2, will be a Back To School event for St Jean Vianney School. Lots will be happening that afternoon for kids and parents alike. The new quilt in Church with the summer colors scene was created by Dr. Marchita Mauck, a dear friend and art historian. She is a Master Quilter who is generous to make the quilt hangings which have recently been in Church.

We extend our sympathy to the following parishioners who recently lost a loved one:

To the family of William Templet on his death. To the family of Newton Kimball on his death.

BAPTISMS We welcome the following children to our parish family through the Sacrament of Baptism:

† Ethan Hughes McLin, son of Dustin & Jenna McLin.

† Ave Mei-Ling Pham, daughter of Jonathan & Christina Pham

† Dani Rae Marie Prejean, daughter of Kevin Prejuean & Courtney Solor.

† Sadie Rose Payer, daughter of Justin & Cherie Payer.

LIFE TOGETHER

I will not be here for the next few weekends as I will be on vacation. I am grateful to the priests who will be covering for me while I am away. I’m heading up to northern New York to the Finger Lakes area with a priest friend from Rochester. Then, going to visit a Diocesan Liturgy colleague and her husband in Louisville. So while I am away, have a safe and blessed few weeks. Thank you and much love.

VOCATION

In the Gospel many people hunger for a small amount of food. In our day there are too many people for the small number of priests, sisters, brothers and deacons. We too must trust in the Lord by praying for vocations and responding if we feel God is calling us to a Church vocation. If so, call or email Father Matt Dupré at 225.336.8778, [email protected], or visit, www.diobr.org/vocations.

Bible Timeline Gospel of Matthew

Building on the foundation laid in The Great Adventure bible Timeline, this next study in the Great Adventure series, Adventures in Matthew: The King and His Kingdom by Jeff Cavins, focuses on Jesus as the fulfillment of the promises of the Old Testament. It also touches on Jesus' establishment of the Church as the Kingdom of Heaven on earth, making it an excellent introduction to the Great Adventures study on the Acts of the Apostles. Set in the rich context of Jesus' Jewish culture, this study will help you understand the universal truths of the Kingdom of God; it will help you understand more fully God's will for us today.

•Go deeper into the story of Salvation History and discover the riches of the Gospel message

•Enrich your spiritual life through a better understanding of the life of Christ.

•Develop a greater appreciation for the Church and the sacraments as you see them being instituted by our Lord.

Come to a deeper understanding of your role in the Kingdom of God through the Beatitudes and all of the teachings of Christ.

For more information call Patsy Burgess,OFS at 225.907.8248 or email [email protected].

Greater Adventure Bible Timeline The Bible Timeline

The Bible Timeline is the introductory study of the The Great Adventure. This remarkable journey through the Bible gives participants the "big picture" they need to put the entire story into context. Salvation history is covered from its beginning in Genesis through the coming of Christ and the establishment of the Catholic Church. A clear understanding of the underlying Scriptural narrative is essential to all Bible reading and study, and for this reason The Bible Timeline is the first foundational study in The Great Adventure Bible Study Series. A combination of individual reading and study, group discussion, and lecture commentary guides participants as they read through the 14 narrative books of the Bible and discover the meaning of each in light of the whole. Participants will:

•Read for themselves the 14 narrative books of the Bible — the ones that tell the story — in chronological order. •Discover the major people, places, events, and themes of the Bible •Learn God's marvelous plan of salvation history and see how your faith story fits into "His-story." •Develop a strong foundation for further Bible reading and study •Gain a greater appreciation for the Scripture readings they hear in Mass. •Encourage one another as they learn together how God's Word applies to their lives.

•Study key Old Testament passages in light of their fulfillment in Christ
