St. Anne's Bulletin - 13th Sunday -June 28th, 2015 1st Reading: Wisdom 1:13-115; 2:23-24. God did not make us to destroy us. He made us to enjoy a blessed immortality. 2nd Reading: 2 Cor. 8:7-9, 13-15. St. Paul here is appealing to the Corinthians to contribute to a collection for the poor in the Church at Jerusalem. Gospel: Mark 5:21-43. This contains two separate miracles of Jesus: the cure of a woman with a haemorrhage, and the raising of the daughter of Jairus. Both are signs of God's power, restoring life and health through Jesus. Gospel Challenge - (Taken from "Preaching the New Lectionary" by D. Gerant Gods graciousness toward us should prompt us to be generous toward others. What we receive as life-enhancing gifts we must share with those in need, those in the throes of death-dealing poverty or illness, those to whom life has not been kind. As we have been favored by the healing touch of God, so we must extend that same loving touch to others. The love of Christ impels us to be open handed as we approach those in need. Following Jesus' lead, we must not only give to them, we must also allow them to take from us. At times this will require that we share material resources, at other times it might mean that our energy will be drained in our service of them. In all of this, Jesus has set the example for us to follow.
