Through the 1990s, offices were distinct settings, pre-dictably different from our homes. This was thoughtful, as elaborate telephone systems; expensive desktop comput-ers; and room-sized copiers existed only at work, and offices were designed to harmonize with these essential, but unique workplace, tools. Remember leaving a message after 5pm, and only expecting to hear back the following day? Or not working on weekends? Our work lives were separate from our personal lives, and office design reflected this glaring contrast from our homes. Times have changed. As compact and affordable laptops, tablets and smart phones have become synonymous with modern living, the delineation between our work and per-sonal tools has converged. And along with this convergence, the space between our work and personal lives has dissolved too. Perhaps forever. With this technological innovation, the hint of transforma-tion had always been on the horizon. Yet subtle but equally disruptive trends have been evolving for decades too, and

over the last few years have materialized in the form of social disruption, and societal progress. Our country has become firmly rooted in services, and many roles no longer depend upon physical strength, but instead cognitive ability. With this economic transition, and higher education now dominated by women and minorities, glass ceilings are shattering, and these groups are ascending corporate ladders at a promising rate. These trends are reconstructing the office landscape, along with the products chosen to illustrate it. Progressive organizations are becoming diverse, egalitarian and demo-cratic. And the office aesthetic is adopting a casual, comfort-able and inviting aesthetic. More like our homes. Acknowledging these pervasive trends, HBF recognized a momentous opportunity to evolve the brand forward, fo-cused on the underlying design aspirations these trends foretell. In 2016, the company closed the chapter on what HBF had become. And opened a chapter on what HBF could be.

HBF's aspiration is to provide refreshingly contemporary, transcendent products envisioned by global luminaries in archi-tecture, the arts and design; develop and manufacture these products in the United States; and reinforce the brand assurance HBF has been recognized for: contract quality, embedded work performance, accommodating lead times and a rewarding client experience. With this compelling new outlook, HBF has been fortunate to attract and collaborate with singularly talented architects, designers and artists throughout the United States, Europe and Japan:

Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rutzou // Space Copenhagen. Established in 2005, Space Copenhagen is a multi-disciplinary studio working across furni-ture, lighting and refined objects, to art direction and installations, to interiors of some of the finest private homes, restaurants and hotels around the world. Their ambition is to forge new paths by balancing opposites – classic and modern, industri-al and organic, sculptural and minimal, light and shade. They describe this approach “Poetic Modernism”. Henrik Schulz // Henrik Schulz Studio. Based in Gothenburg, Sweden, architect and de-signer Henrik Schulz established his studio in 2008. Henrik’s customers include Volvo, IKEA, Carl Hansen, Polestar, HAY, Horreds, HBF and others. Rooted in the Scandinavian tradition, Henrik seeks inspiration from a holistic, even architectural approach, imagining the entirety of a project first before defining the details. (MOD sectional)
