PARKING REMINDER Once again we have been made aware of parking

difficulty for people with limited mobility. It has been

suggested that additional parking spaces be made available

because by the time some arrive, all the marked spaces are

taken.

On weekdays we rent nearly 90 parking spaces

(marked with orange lines) to downtown businesses which

limits how many spaces we have available for our own use.

The three rows closest to the building (marked with white

lines) are the ones reserved for our own use. If we added

additional handicap slots, it would create another problem

because available spaces fill up quickly.

On Saturdays and Sundays, we kindly ask that

everyone be mindful of this parking issue and leave the

entire row closest to the building for handicap and elderly

people. If these spaces are full, please drop off the people

who have limited mobility at the canopy and then park the

vehicle.

MISSIONARY CO-OP APPEAL

As I look forward to going back home this summer, I

would like to say thank you very much to the Salvatorian

family, co-workers, friends, individual supporters and all

Catholic dioceses for your support, especially for opening

your doors to welcome us to share with our fellow

Catholics about the Church in the global community.

Please keep my new ministry in Tanzania in your prayers.

God Bless you and you are most welcome to Tanzania.

~Fr. Ferdinand Lukoa, SDS, Outgoing Mission Director

SACRED MUSIC COLLOQUIUM 2018

“The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any

other art” (Sacrosanctam Conilium, 112). This very powerful sentence opens the chapter on Sacred Music in this important

Vatican II document. Do you agree with it? As a sacred musician with many years of experience in the Liturgy, I have

learned that this statement is extremely true. Recently, I met many others who also support this statement of Vatican II.

During the last week of June, I was blessed to attend the Church Music Association of America’s 2018 Sacred

Music Colloquium at Loyola University in Chicago. The CMAA is an association of Catholic sacred musicians, striving to

learn, teach and implement sacred music in the Liturgy according to the Church’s teachings, both ancient and new. This

wonderful experience provided lectures and rehearsals with professors from around Europe and the United States. We also

had students and clergy attending from as far away as Nigeria, Hong Kong and Australia!

The Sacred Music Colloquium provided a breath of fresh air, as well as affirmation of all I have learned about music

in Liturgy and education these past twenty years. Each day, we sang Lauds and Compline; but every day’s highlight was a

sung Mass in either the Ordinary or Extraordinary Form of our Latin Rite Liturgy. Sometimes, Mass was sung in English,

but we also sang the Mass in Spanish and Latin. I attended lectures and rehearsals each day on Gregorian Chant, sacred

polyphony, organ repertoire, adolescent and aging voices, etc. It was a very busy and exciting week!

This experience will help me to better serve our Cathedral parish. I hope, in the future, many of you will research

this yearly event and attend. It is great fun for any Catholic! You may find the CMAA website at https://musicasacra.com/

If you have any questions, or would simply like to discuss sacred music, please do contact me. Rachael Verhaagh
