Step 1 Pre-Install Instructions Before you begin the installation process, you first need to verify what Operating System (OS) you have installed on your computer and make sure it has been updated. Computers that are issued by Cadet Command will no longer have the Army Gold Master (AGM) image since it prevented many of the resources on the Curriculum Manager from working. However, since there were computers sent to the field that had the AGM installed the brigades now have generic WIN 7 OS disks that can be used to replace the AGM image. Follow the steps below to determine if you have the AGM OS version installed.

1. If you have a Windows 7 machine, click the Windows button > Control Panel > System

2. If you see the Army logo, then please call your brigade for a generic Windows 7 disc and an MS Office disc and reformat your computer following the steps below.

Step 3 About the hard drive The Iomega® eGo™ Portable Hard Drive USB 2.0 with Protection Suite is has a sleek steel enclosure and is the perfect companion to your computer. The Drop Guard™ feature protects the drive when dropped up to 51 inches (40% above the industry average!) so you can be confident your portable hard drive is rugged! The eGo™ is protected by a 1-year limited warranty.

Fig. 4 – Iomega® eGo™ Hard Drive

How do I install the hard drive? 1. Connect the mini-USB connector on the cable to the back of the drive.

3. Check the drive status light. If the status light is dim or blinking for several minutes, connect the USB supplemental power connector to another USB port on the computer.

Fig. 7 – Drive status light

4. The drive icon will appear in My Computer or Windows Explorer. If the drive does not appear on your computer, refer to Troubleshooting in the Iomega® eGo™ user’s manual.

5. The Iomega® eGo™ Portable Hard Drive is ready to use. If you encounter problems installing or using the drive, refer to Troubleshooting in the Iomega® eGo™ user’s manual.

Plug-in the CM hard drive and the CPS receiver in the same order for every use. If you plug-in the hard drive in a different USB port, you will need to run File Type Fix from the Startup Menu (see Step 9 for how to run this application).

Using the USB Y-cable with the Iomega Portable Hard Drive Why does the USB cable for my Iomega® eGo™ Portable Hard Drive have two USB connectors?

12

JROTC Curriculum Manager Installation Guide v2

The Y-cable allows you to use two USB connections to ensure adequate power for your Iomega® portable drive. In some cases, USB-powered devices do not receive enough power from a single USB connection. Using the second USB connection ensures that the device receives adequate power to work properly. You may not need to use the additional power-only connection in all cases. If the indicator light on the drive glows steadily after connecting the main USB data line, the single USB connection might be providing sufficient power. If the indicator light is dim or blinking, or if you see a message indicating that your USB device is not receiving sufficient power, you should connect the additional power-only connector. On most Y-cables, the power-only connector is labeled with a sticker showing a lightning bolt. If the Y-cable does not have a label, you can determine which connector is power-only by the cable length. The short, branched USB connection is for power-only. The long USB cable is for both data and power.
