The following picture shows what files should be in the ROOT folder of the CM External Hard Drive. If there are files other than what is listed, they should be moved to another folder that is not part of the CM Application. For example, if you want to use the CM to backup other files, then create a folder that says “Personal Backup” at the ROOT level and use that folder to copy files from your computer to the external hard drive.

B. Apply Read/Write permissions to the CM hard drive

Windows Vista/7/8 Instructions You will need to grant Read/Write Permissions in Windows Vista and 7/8 if you are getting a Jet Database error, this means you do not have write permissions on the external hard drive. Even if you are an Admin on your computer, Windows Vista and some Windows 7/8 will auto block you from writing to an external hard drive. In those cases you need to tell Windows Vista and Windows 7 to grant you full control of the drive whether you are an Admin or a User.

1. Locate the CM drive icon in Windows Explorer. 2. Right click on CM drive icon and select Properties from the Context menu. 3. Click Security tab 4. Click the Edit button in the Properties window. Click OK to confirm UAC elevation

request.

5. Select User names from the Permission windows or click the Add button to add Permissions to the User.

6. Under Permission section, check Full control under the Allow column to assign full access rights control permissions to Administrators and Users groups.

When opening a presentation the slides open externally in MS PowerPoint and not in the CM display window even after running the File Fix utility. To resolve this error:

1. Click My Computer and navigate to CM hard drive > CM_App folder. 2. Right click on ftfix.exe and choose Run as administrator.

D. PowerPoint error “Some controls on this presentation can’t be activated”

When navigating to slides with flash content you get an error “Some controls on this presentation can’t be activated. They might not be registered on this computer.” You must install the latest Flash plug-in to fix this. CM Startup menu >Required Plug-ins > install Flash under Adobe and follow the installation prompts.

E. When I launch CM Reports and Question Editor or when there’s a Pre-login task found I get an error

The most common cause of this error on Windows XP and Vista is missing the .NET framework 3.5 Service Pack 1. The .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 can be downloaded from Microsoft. A link to that download is found under the CM Startup menu > Required Plug-ins. If the .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 is installed and you still have issues launching reports and question editor, your CM core database might need to be repaired and compressed. See page 19 for help.

F. Antivirus and internet security programs The preferred Antivirus program to use is McAfee which you can download from the JROTC Portal. Login to the Portal and then click on Automation>Download Center. AVG If you are using the AVG Antivirus program, it may cause CM to run slow; slides may take a long time to load. This happens because AVG actively scans each file (slide, document, audio, movie, etc…) as it is opened, which delays its display in CM. To resolve this issue:

1. Open AVG. 2. Open Link Scanner and turn off the settings. 3. Open Resident Shield and turn off the settings.

Norton If you use the Norton Antivirus program, it may delete the CM Start menu (CM_Start.exe) off the CM drive. This happens when the new SONAR Norton component mistakenly identifies the startup menu as a security threat and removes it. To resolve this issue:

1. Restore the CM_Start.exe from Norton quarantine. 2. Make sure the box exclude from future scans is checked.
