Welcome to the Runescape PocketBook. This guide aims to lessen the divide between those mostexperienced at the game and those completely new to PvM. We do this through making heavily researched and considered recommendations inalmost every aspect of your play to give you the tools to improve if that is what you wish to do.

This guide is aimed at beginners or intermediate play-ers. The information we have compiled for usage is occasionally not completely best in slot, but instead the most reasonable option we can recommend. If the bonus does not outweigh the price we will not recommend it; but will often mention it in a note. In saying that — the recommendations in this Pocket-Book are completely viable to be used at every single PvM challenge in the game, and hopefully will keep required innovation to a minimum while providing as much useful information as possible.

HOW SHOULD I MOVE MY CAMERA DURING PVM?

Use your middle mouse button to rotate the camera. This ensures you don’t need to move your fingers off your keybindings while doing combat and allows you to move it more precisely and quickly.

WHY AM I NOT DOING ANY DAMAGE WITH DUAL WIELD MAGIC?

Make sure when using Dual Wield magic you have an offhand spell selected. Much of the time, I notice a surprising amount of people forget to check this and as such it can pretty significantly impact on your DPS.

WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME TO USE A SARADOMIN BREW?

Saradomin Brews should be used sparingly, and only when a large burst of healing is required, as they significantly drain your stats and even with the stat restoration overloads have passively, will notably negatively impact on your DPS.

HOW SHOULD I CHANGE MY ROTATION AROUND THREE SECOND COOLDOWN ABILITIES?

Needle Strike, Sonic Wave, Concentrated Blast come with passive bonuses after they are used. Often times people overvalue these bonuses and prioritise them to the detriment of their own rotation. These passives should be viewed as nicebonuses, but should not be the foundation which you build your rotation around. Focus on your rotation first, and these passives second.

I’M DOING PVM BUT I DON’T FEEL LIKE I’M MAKING MONEY. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

PvM is expensive. This is something you should be prepared for if it’s what you want to invest time in. It can be incredibly profitable once you gain that experience, but the journey to get there can be a long, tedious and expensive process. Losing money while learning is common, and should be expected.

DYING AT BOSSES IS REALLY EXPENSIVE AND DISCOURAGES ME TO TRY PVM.

There is no shame in using practice mode to learn, everyone started somewhere and multiple deaths at a difficult bossimpact your bank. Practice mode is an awesome tool that will allow you to practice while only using supplies, and nothaving to pay for deaths.

X PERK IS TOO EXPENSIVE! WHAT’S AN ALTERNATIVE?

Don’t use the perk, viable alternatives are sometimes listed in the pocketbook but if a perk is too expensive for yousometimes it’s best just to wait until you can afford it, as there are very few alternatives worth the time and resources.

MY COMPUTER IS CAUSING ME TO DIE AT BOSSES!

When doing PvM, prioritise your frames per second over your graphical fidelity. Lower graphics settings for higher frames per second is a trade that should be taken every time.

WHY IS THIS MECHANIC INVISIBLE TO ME?

Using lower graphics settings in many encounters will ensure that some more subtle mechanics are much easier to see. If you are struggling with seeing mechanics in encounters, you may want to consider lowering your graphics settings.

SHOULD I USE ANIMA CORE SLISKE GEAR FOR SLAYER?

Anima Core Sliske gear should not be used during slayer as it removes your ability to access specialised perks, while costing significantly more than tier 70 gear to buy and upkeep. Furthermore the armor itself does not provide the damage bonus that tier 70 armor provides and thus is inferior in almost every way.

WHEN SHOULD I USE TANK ARMOR?

Tank armor should never be used in regular gameplay outside of a few specific situations. These can include but are not limited to high enrage Telos, basing raids and in these situations the only tank gear you should be wearing is Achto Primeval. The defensive bonuses of other tank armor sets are negligible or detrimental in that you sacrifice the bonus of additional damage to receive them, and in no situation are they worth using.

WHICH PVM ARMOUR SHOULD I BUY?

The cheapest. The difference between T92 armor and T80 armor at current is a 6.31% increase in raw stats. This is incredibly minimal. You’re better off buying cheaper armor and more expensive perks, earlier as opposed to saving up and buying more expensive armor then not being able to afford adequate perks.

IS PRECISE 5 BETTER THAN PRECISE 3 EQUILIBRIUM 2?

No. General rule is Precise ranks are +1% DPS increase while Equilibrium ranks are +1.125%. The math from there islinear, I trust you can do it.

Dreadnip

Useful if the monster has either a high affinity/lowdefense level or a 100% hit chance.

Summon them during boss fights for extra damage.

Incense sticks(Kwuarm / Spirit)

These are relatively expensive to use.

Bleeds are damage-over-time and (for the sake of simplicity) heal-over-time abilities, that once placed, passively damage/heal a target. Due to their mechanics, bleeds often require strict communication in group PvM situations to maximise their efficiency. Thus, bleeds shouldn’t be a priority for everyone in a public group boss, but should still be used often, especiallyif you are one of the only DPS’s using a specific combat style. These are due to a few factors, which associate with many abilities:

• These abilities do not stack when multiple players cast them on a target at the same time. If a person casts the same bleed before the previous expires, it cancels the previous, and the bleed’s duration may or not be renewed.• Ice Asylum can’t be activated near another Ice Asylum.• Bleeds don’t get increased damage from damage-boosting Ultimate abilities, and for that reason shouldn’t be in yourUltimate rotation.- Corruption Shot/Blast are exceptions due to their high basic damage and should still be used in group and ultimaterotations.

• Mutated Dazing Shot is stackable and great to use in group bossing.• Debilitate will not cancel when multiple players use it on a target, however the damage reduction is personal so you must cast it to receive it.• Shards should only be used to stall and build Adrenalin when a boss is un-targetable.

Stuns prevent enemies from attacking. Within this section is also abilities which change the enemies’ targeted player.

• The Flanking 3 Invention Perk greatly increases the damage of these abilities, making them anexcellent addition to any rotation.

• Provoke is used in PvM to make the target aggressive towards a player (and reduces enemy andplayer DPS to other targets by 50% in PvP), while Incite is used to make it more aggressive towards that player, and thus, should be used by the Tank.

• Natural Instinct is used in situations where you’d want to build up to full adrenaline while also being under the effect of your Ultimate in PvM.

• Tuska’s Wrath should always be used during Slayer, and Sacrifice should always be used to KOtargets. These are usually better than the standard basic abilities.

• Tsunami and Incendiary is used to clear hordes of mobs (SW/P5 Telos/Vits/Kalphites).• Revenge is used to deal high DPS, it’s great when lots of small mobs attack you.• Reprisal is used to deal high DPS in situations where you take large type-less damage.• Transfigure is used to heal back to full health in situations where moving isn’t required.

BindingsThese ability bars revolve around the QWER home keys, where thefingers should rest.

- You should pretty much never need to hit buttons 7 & 8. They are primarilythere so Revolutuion should run through it correctly.

- Weapon Special Attack should be bound to Shift 6/Pgdown.- Quick Prayers should be bound to ‘P’.- Summoning left click option should be bound in menu to ‘N’.

- If you don’t intend to use bar 5, switch Planted Feet to another bar,but keep the bind for Planted Feet the same.

- Use an external program to rebind Caps Lock, and then bind TargetCycle to Caps Lock in your menu.

Mutated Fury:- For Revolution: If you don’t have Mutated Fury, move Fury to the lastbasic ability slot in your revolution bar.

- For Revolution++: If you don’t have Mutated Fury, remove regular Fury off your Revolution++ bar entirely and move all other abilities up one, adding ForcefulBackhand to the end of the bar.

• Non-Offensive abilities (i.e Anticipation/Freedom) can be used to ‘sneak’ an extra auto attack inWith Dual Wield (DW) & Two Handed (2H) weapons. This can be achieved by spam-clicking a targetwhile casting the Non-Offensive ability.• Similarly, casting Shadow Tendrils will also fire off an auto attack on the same tick losslessly.• Most Non-Offensive abilities can allow a single additional auto attack, however Freedom allows youto get both MH & OH hits in, making it the best ability for Sneak Auto Attacks.

NOTE: Casting a Channeled ability before the Non-Offensive ability will prevent the additional SneakAttack, so ensure to use a single hit ability first.

• 2H works differently to DW. It is required to wait 1 tick (0.6s) between casting abilities to proc aSneak-Auto-Attack. This is particularly useful for adding extra damage to an ultimate.- The combo should look like: “Ability 1 (Or Ultimate) > Wait 1 tick > Ability 2”• When weapon switching to use a 2H ultimate, you will have to retarget the enemy every time if the weapon isn’t keybound.

• With magic, you can force auto attacks by keybinding your active spell and activating it right before activating anotherability. The auto attack will then stack with that ability.• To sneak in an auto attack with Detonate, use your active spell, then release Detonate on the same tick followed by asecond ability.• When a wand and shield is equipped, you can use an auto attack 2 Ticks after the abilities Global Cooldown (3 Ticks or 1.8s). This is most useful in scenarios like P5 Vorago or Telos.

• Debuffs can also be stacked just like autocasted spells, just remember to keybind them.

Four tick auto attacking (4TAA) refers to the act of sneaking in an additional auto attack between the use of basic abilities at the cost of a single game tick of delay between ability casts. This in turn can result in a significant DPS increase if doneconsistently and properly.

4TAA requires a complex series of inputs between every ability and is very input heavy. As such the PocketBook staff do not endorse the method we’re about to explain for regular PvM and want to give a warning that this method is NEVER REQUIRED to complete any reasonable PvM challenge and should only be utilised by those who wish to push themselves beyond what should be achievable. Additionally while the PocketBook staff are aware a large portion of players who utilise 4TAA use macros to achieve their feats - we will not be displaying or assisting in the design of any such macros as they are a breach of game rules, and will take the opportunity to use our platform to recommend players use these inputs manually or not at all to avoid breaching these game rules.

Currently you are only able to 4TAA with magic until such time as a universal auto attack button is introduced into the game. In order to effectively 4TAA you will require a DW weapon set and a 2H weapon of roughly the same tier.

Please refer to the pipeline provided for an explanation into the method behind 4TAA. If you have any questions; werecommend you join the PocketBook’s Discord server and enquire there.

If you are completing the set of actions as shown and it does not seem to work; note that to perform the techniquecorrectly you must not use a channeled ability (such as Concentrated Blast) for your first ability. Additionally the auto attack button must be pressed before the second ability, however they must still be activated on the same tick.

Canceling abilities refers to the tactic of manually casting a second ability in-order to end or ‘cancel’ the animation of theprevious ability. This is primarily used for Channeled or Delayed abilities to increase the maximum hit splats and DPS output.

The combo should look like: Ability 1 > Wait X Time/Ticks > Ability 2.

Due to abilities having various delays they need to be canceled at different times. Often, this can be determined by thebuffbar cooldown of a Channeled ability (the cooldown until the ability ends).

• Fury and Concentrated Blast should be canceled immediately after activation.

• These abilities should be canceled just before the ability timer reaches 1 second.- Assault varies between DW and 2H, so cast the second ability right as the buff timer hits 1 second.- Rapid Fire is a bit slower, so cast the second ability right before the buff timer hits 0 seconds.

• Use an ability 1 tick after Global Cooldown (3 ticks) to cancel Snipe.

• Detonate should be held for 3 seconds before releasing, or you won’t be able to stack it withanother ability. You can watch the Cooldown go from 27 to 26.

• Cancel these abilities as soon as you receive the final self-damaging hitsplat.

Affinity is the largest contributor to whether an attack will hit a target or not. Every creature in the game has a base affinity, which acts as its weaknesses dependent on combat style. The higher a creatures’ affinity is; the more likely they will be able to be hit with attacks. Another interesting note is that in a group boss encounter, affinity is not localised to a single player. If you use the ability Quake and give your target 2 Affinity, everybody who is attacking that target will have their accuracy increased, not just you.

Affinity can be applied in a variety of ways, the majority of the buffs lasting one minute before they must be reapplied.Affinity can only be applied from any specific source at one time; for instance if you use the Guthix Staff special attack on a target twice, despite the staff adding two affinity with its special attack your target will only get two affinity after both special attacks instead of four. However you can use multiple different methods of applying affinity, in that case the affinity will stack additively. For instance if you use a Guthix Staff special attack and then the Quake ability, your target will have four affinity instead of two.

Affinity contributes to hit chance through the formula:Hitchance = Affinity x (Accuracy/Defence)

Due to this, while affinity may seem a minor change, it can actually be deceptively large.

Let’s make an example a target with 1924 total armor (the same as Telos). Assuming you have 3500accuracy, and the target has a base affinity of 40.

72.76 = 40 x (3500/1924)

Thus you would have 72.76% chance to hit the target with any attack. However if we raise the targetsaffinity to 42 (+2) you would have an 76.4% chance to hit the target and at 44 affinity, base (+4), you would have an 80% chance to hit. A reminder that this applies not only to you, but to anyone attacking that target. Affinity can massivelyinfluence how easy a boss is to hit. As a result, you and your team should be applying affinity as often as you can.
