PARK IMPROVEMENTS

Come out and enjoy the latest improvements at the Oak

Hills Golf Center. Rehabilitation work is complete for new

hole #10. Park crews have constructed a new green complex,

re-shaped the fairway, added two sand bunkers, added a tee

complex, upgraded the irrigation and installed concrete cart

path. In conjunction with work on new #10, staff also built a

new tee complex for hole #1.

OAK HILLS GOLF CENTER

Construction is complete of the .16 mile extension of greenway trail from Southwest Boulevard

through Our Savior’s Lutheran Church property connecting with McKay Park’s fitness loop trail.

Project was made possible through a generous donation from Our Savior’s Lutheran Church

and Recreation Trails Program outdoor recreation grant.

A greenway trail is being constructed along the new Frog Hollow Drive roadway improvements.

Better access to the West Edgewood Drive Recreation Area will soon be possible with the reha-

bilitation and installation of a pedestrian/bicycle bridge over Frog Hollow branch of Wears

Creek. The new bridge will connect the greenway trail at the West Edgewood Drive parking lot

and the mountain bike and hiking trails located in the West Edgewood Drive Recreation Area.

This project was made possible through a generous donation from the Jefferson City Host Lions

Club and a Land and Water Conservation Fund outdoor recreation grant.

In cooperation with Cole County Public Works, a greenway trail is being constructed along the

new Business Hwy. 50/Apache Flats roadway improvements. Once completed, the greenway

trail will run along the north side of the roadway improvements connecting South Country Club

Drive to Binder Park. A series of sidewalks will connect to the greenway trail offering pedestri-

ans safe access to local businesses, residential neighborhoods and Pioneer Trail Elementary

School.

Jefferson City is home to an award winning Parks and Recreation Department. As the capital city of Missouri, maintaining our local parks and recreation facilities and implementing programs to meet the ever changing needs of our community and its visitors is a challenge. The Jefferson C ity Parks and Recreation Foundation strives to provide additional resources to leverage taxes, fees and grants to enhance our parks and recreation services. Over the years, civic minded individuals and organizations have maintained a tradition of enhancing the quality of life for their families, friends, and neighbors through generous donations to the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation system. In 1992, the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Foundation was formed to provide continuing leadership and foster the expansion of parks and recreation services in Jefferson City. The Foundation’s goal is to emphasize the value of parks and recreation - both passive and active - not only for individual growth and development, but also for a strong family unit and for making our community a more desirable place to live, work, play and visit. If you believe, as we do, that wholesome recreation pursuits make individuals more productive in their homes and communities and lead to a healthier and happier life, please commit your support to the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Foundation. Land, trees, fountains, benches, shelters, activity fees for youth programs are all gifts that can make a difference in people’s lives. Any and all size of gifts to our community are appreciated and contribute to the livability and quality of life of Jefferson City. For more information on how you can make a tax deductible contribution of land, money, or other gifts, please contact the Foundation’s Executive Director William Lockwood at 634-6482.

Jefferson City Parks & Recreation

Foundation As a recipient of federal funds from the U.S. Department of the Interior, the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Commission and the Jefferson City Department of Parks and Recreation operates programs subject to the non-discrimination requirements of Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Under Title VI, the U.S. Department of the Interior strictly prohibits discrimination because of race, color, or national origin in its federally assisted programs. Any person who believes he or she has been discriminated against in any program or facility of the Jefferson City Department of Parks and Recreation, or desires further information regarding Title VI, should write immediately to: The Office for Equal Opportunity U.S. Department of Interior Office of the Secretary Washington, D.C. 20240

Equal Opportunity

In any Parks and Recreation program, a participant who is bleeding or who has blood on his/her clothing shall be prohibited from participating further in the activity until appropriate treatment has been administered. Appropriate treatment may include bandaging as necessary to prevent recurrence. This policy has been implemented to protect the participants, coaches, staff, and their families from diseases transported through the accidental contact of tainted blood. If medical care is needed, the participant must leave the activity until the problem situation has been resolved. A 70% isopropyl alcohol solution must be used to disinfect the skin and clothing. All infected areas must be thoroughly cleaned before this individual is allowed to continue participating in the activity. This may require that the player remove affected clothing and replace it in order to be able to continue participating. All participants should bring an extra shirt, pair of pants/shorts, and socks to each activity to change into in the event a blood incident should occur.

The Parks and Recreation Commission believes that no youth should be denied access to Parks and Recreation programs for financial reasons. The Parks and Recreation Foundation makes recreation sponsorships available to those who otherwise would not be able to afford to participate in organized recreation activities. Those seeking sponsorships will be asked to complete a Recreation Sponsorship Application Form available through the Department of Parks and Recreation. Sponsorships are generally limited to those receiving benefits from a form of public assistance as designated on the application form. Sponsorship funding is limited to $200 per individual per calendar year and is restricted to ongoing programs conducted by Parks and Recreation staff. Specialized programs of short duration conducted by non-staff members (e.g. baseball clinics) are ineligible for sponsorship funding. All application forms requesting funding for youth programs must be signed by the parent/guardian of the prospective participant. Participants/parents must pay a minimum of 20% of the registration fee for programs for which sponsorship assistance is requested. Questions concerning this service may be directed to Phil Stiles at 634-6482.

Bleeding Policy

Sponsorships
