Introduction LTE is the 4G system. LTE targets : DL100Mbps / UL50Mbps , Scalable bandwidths 20MHz,
large number of users, low latency, and cost efficiency. LTE characteristics: Wider frequency bandwidth, MIMO systems, all
packet switched, DL OFDMA, UL SC-FDMA, scheduling and Link adaptation .
Link adaptation: Adaptive Modulation and Coding techniques. Adaptive Modulation in LTE: DL: QPSK, 16QAM, and 64QAM UL: QPSK, 16QAM, and 64QAM (optional for Handset)

Problem Statement How best to match the transmission parameters ( Modulation
scheme ) to the channel condition. Determine the switching threshold for the modulation scheme
so that system throughput is maximized. C=M*Bw*log2(1+SNR)
QPSK 16QAM 64QAM

Study the performance of LTE system with different modulation scheme under different channel conditions (models) in terms of Throughput and BLER.
Compare the effect of these channel conditions on the Adaptive modulation.
Establishing the maximum throughput that can be achieved for each modulation scheme under the different channel models.
Determine the statistics of the Modulation schemes utilization for the different channel models.

4/24/2013 6
Simulating Adaptive Modulation for LTE Downlink in different channel models to see how does it affect the throughput.
Compare different modulations and study the behavior of these modulations under different channel conditions.
The evaluation of the system performance will be based on the BLER and Throughput with respect to SNR and for different CQIs.
