BEHAVIOURAL BASED SAFETY

TRAINING

COACHING BY VIDEO

Page 2: JAWS BBS PRESENATION-LinkedIn post Rev 2015

JAWS has spent more than 30 years developing and improving it’s Behavior Based Safety Process. The process is a combination of capturing worksite video observations, preparing interactive video presentations to initiate open forum discussions using multi media to highlight both the positive and at risk behaviors or conditions then using these observations to coach crews and promote area hazard awareness. The JAWS process interfaces with the clients existing safety management systems which when combined helps to increase safer working environments for the workforce regardless of language or nationality. Increasing workforce hazard perceptions and identification will ultimately lead to a rapid and significant reduction in accident / injury potentials which will increase overall productive man hours.

THE JAWS BBS PROCESSIS ADAPTABLE

We have successfully used our process in all areas of industry;

“JAWS INITIATIVES”

JAWS has several adaptable applications of its signature Behavioral Based Safety program.

I. Our original and proven Video BBS program which is designed to work with crews on multiple facilities within a project area on a scheduled rotational site visit basis.

Page 5: JAWS BBS PRESENATION-LinkedIn post Rev 2015

“JAWS INITIATIVES” JAWS has several adaptable applications of its

signature Behavioral Based Safety program.

II. A second option, a video BBS observation by department. A JAWS team would remain on a single facility for extended periods while rotating between departments, this removes any perception of observation stress to a single workforce group.

Page 6: JAWS BBS PRESENATION-LinkedIn post Rev 2015

III.Task Based Observation Program. JAWS consultants will work with facility HSE management and Supervisors to follow the below specific job task. assignments;

Pre-tower meeting

Job planning stage

Prompt Card review

WRA reviews

JAWS video observation of a task being performed

Prepares a 15 min task video feedback review

This session can also be used as a After Action

Review (AAR)

IV Lastly is our Hand Injury Prevention Process; using the same fundamentals as our BBS process a JAWS consultant works with the crews to highlight how we are putting our hands at risk in the work area. HIPP presentations and safety campaign support are also integrated into our schedule on a facility. HIPP will include feedback and coaching sessions for all operations and support staff.

“PRE MOBILIZATION”

Before the camera goes out on site….

We complete site Management & Supervisor meetings.

We complete site crew introductions to the process.

When everyone is aware why the camera is there, then the Camera joins the workforce.

Before project agreement and mobilization…. Client senior management introduction to the

benefits of using the JAWS process. Management must commit to our process

requirements of confidentiality and non-reprisal culture.

Page 9: JAWS BBS PRESENATION-LinkedIn post Rev 2015

MEETING TOPICS

To discuss the objectives for the video BBS process and to gain total management and crews support for the program.

Discuss areas of any work site safety focus requirements.

To ensure a full understanding that the program is a crew based program. Supervisors are not included on the coaching sessions initially, but can be introduced later as crews understand the camera is not a negative intrusion.

Page 10: JAWS BBS PRESENATION-LinkedIn post Rev 2015

MEETING TOPICS

To discuss confidentiality of video clips & photo’s of crews which is paramount to the programs success.

Our consultants need to gain the crews approval & trust to ensure the programs success.

Page 11: JAWS BBS PRESENATION-LinkedIn post Rev 2015

We are here to help! We are not on site as Safety Cops!

We don’t embarrass people! We don’t go POSTAL with anyone or any condition! We don’t do Paparazzi! We don’t cause observation stress! We don’t do donkey BBQ’s!We don’t use spy filming tactics! And we never show supervisors video clips unless agreed to first by the crews.

JAWS PHILOSOPHY

Page 12: JAWS BBS PRESENATION-LinkedIn post Rev 2015

A job report is produced indicating areas of positive and at risk behaviors observed with recommendations on corrective actions that can be taken. A picture gallery is included showing a selection of both at risk and positive behaviors, personal identities are masked.

Reports are submitted to the client and copied to the facility managers for review. These reports should then be discussed internally for follow up by site Supervisors & Safety reps.

We submit three main type of JAWS reports; Job Observation report Summary report Management bi-annual & annual trend

reports

Data results from a clients BBS system can also be used to review and isolate specific trend areas.Trend analysis shows any area where injury potential observations are increasing which give JAWS a pro-active target area for BBS video intervention.
