The Herald January 2019
THE GIFT OF GIVING Giving generously from the heart is extremely satisfying for
many reasons, but the most important reason is that it
glorifies God. When you give
freely, you are acknowledging
the abundant, unreserved
generosity He has poured
out on you, His children.
Everything you have,
everything is a gift from God.
David, the author of Psalm 36:9-10, says this, “For with You is
the fountain of life; in Your light we see light. Continue Your
love to those who know You, Your righteousness to the upright
in heart.” Jesus Christ is the Light and in light we find life.
David understood who God is and that He sustains all of
creation in His righteousness. In God’s house is an abundance
of food and water; both physically and spiritually. The Lord is a
satisfying river.
There are many ways to give to others and give back to God.
Money is often the first thing that comes to mind; but the gift of
time often may be an even greater sacrifice.
Listen to what Jesus says in Luke 6:38, “Give and it will be
given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together
and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the
measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

If we live to give, God will see to it that we receive; but if we
live only to get, God will see to it that we lose. This principle
applies not only to our giving of money, but also to the giving
of ourselves in ministry to others.
In the New Year, I believe in my heart that God intends to use
FBC to reach out into our community in a mighty way. At this
very moment, He is leading and guiding us in the way to go
with new ministries. There will be plenty of opportunities for
each of us to give of ourselves and of our resources.
I will begin the New Year (Sunday, Jan. 6) with a message
on giving and how important and pleasing that is in the
glorification of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. No matter
how you choose to give, you can be sure that God will be
pleased and will pour out His grace on you in return.
God is good. All the time!
Have a happy and blessed New Year from Fran and me.
To the work!
