To Dennis and Molly Hay new grandparents of Ian Elijah, son of Emily Hay, born Monday, November
14th.
We will have our mid-week services
and our traditional meal of turkey and
dressing for the week of Thanksgiv-
ing on Tuesday, November 22nd, in-cluding all Wednes-
day’s activities.
Over the last several weeks on
Wednesday nights we have been look-
ing at and discussing what it means to
be Devoted; and, as one of my students
so eloquently stated, being Devoted
means that we are passionately pursu-
ing something. So my question is….Are
you devoted to Christ? Are you pas-
sionately pursuing Christ and all of
His ways? I wonder, if we were all to
think about that question and reflect
on our day-to-day life; where would our
devotion rest? Would it be school, ca-
reer, extracurricular activities, or self?
One of my favorite Authors is A.W.
Tozer and he states the following,
“God’s highest purpose in the redemp-
tion of sinful humanity was based in
His hope that we would allow Him to
reproduce the likeness of Jesus Christ
in our once-sinful lives”.
This tells me that I need to be devoted
to Christ and His ways, so I can know
Him more and live my life like Him,
showing God’s Glory in all I do. What
are you passionately pursuing? What
are you devoted to?
Thank you for letting me serve with
your students,
Ryan
As always, you demonstrated
great generosity by your response
to the Operation Christmas Child
effort. It is hard to get an accu-
rate count because boxes keep
coming in, but we gave at least 50
more boxes this year than last.
That is 50 more children whose
lives will be brighter and who may
make a decision for Jesus Christ.
Thank you, a thousand times over,
for demonstrating what it means
to be the body of Christ. We are
His hands and His heart and only
He knows the eternal impact of
your gifts.
Even though we are still in Novem-
ber, it’s time to start thinking
about our Lottie Moon Christmas
Offering for International Mis-
sions. We will kick off that em-
phasis this coming Lord’s Day as
we hear from Jim and Laura Gen-
try, Southern Baptist missionaries
to China. Most of you will remem-
ber Jim from his days as pastor of
Cole Ridge Baptist Church and as
the BSU Director at ANC. You
will remember Laura as a former
teacher at Blytheville Public
Schools. They are back here on
stateside assignment and we are
so thrilled that he was able to
“work us in”. I hope you will be
present to welcome them home
and hear what God is doing in Chi-
na. Here’s a hint-there may be
more Christians in China than in
the USA. No one knows for sure,
but people are coming to Christ in
droves.
We had a very good meeting with
David Bond regarding our Trans-
formational Church survey. Seven
work groups addressed the seven
areas of need and are in the pro-
cess of formulating some specific
recommendations. There is one
concern that I am hearing over
and over. FBC Blytheville has a
very distinct personality and
that’s a good thing. We are known
as a praying church and a caring
church. Some of you have ex-
pressed your concern that the end
result of this study is that we will
make so many changes that no one
will be able to even recognize us.
I assure you-nothing could be far-
ther from the truth. Prayer and
care are as much a part of our
DNA as my white hair! What we
intend to do is build upon our
strengths and create an even bet-
ter FBC Blytheville. We are look-
ing at incremental change. Only a
deluded man would drag you kick-
ing and screaming down the path-
way of dramatic and instant
change! Let’s consider this pro-
cess as one of moving from “good
to great”. No one is intending to
throw the baby out with the bath-
water!
I Love and Appreciate You!
Greg
