The NELKEN-Line Saturday 13 January, 2-4pmFREE, drop in

The NELKEN-Line is coming to Tramway!

A celebration of iconic choreographer Pina Bausch, The NELKEN-Line, which has spread across the world like a global ‘Mexican wave’ of dance, is probably the best know dance element in all of Pina’s works. Just a few distinct gestures, the sequence tells the story of the four seasons, with dancers proceeding in a long line.

Since the Pina Bausch Foundation called for dance lovers of all ages - professionals and amateurs - to create their own Nelken Lines, they’ve been springing up in France, Ireland, Chile, Cyprus, Spain and Germany…now it’s your chance to join in!

Come along to learn the simple moves, then help to create Tramway’s very own NELKEN-Line. This is a drop-in workshop for all ages and abilities, and our dance will be filmed and shared online.

This event is part of Glasgow’s NELKEN-Line which is led by Intergenerational dance Party and supported by The Work Room.

Tramway Local presents

Window Wanderland Open Studio Thursday 15 February, 4-7pmFREE, drop in

In 2017 the inaugural Strathbungo Window Wanderland brightened the winter evenings as people all over the south side unveiled their own window art. The event returns on 24 February, so we’re inviting all of our neighbours to pop in to our Studio to work on their displays. We will have some inspiration, a few materials and friendly artists on hand to help you create your designs. You are also welcome to bring along your own materials and existing plans.

The kettle’s on… come enjoy a chat with your neighbours and share creative ideas ahead of the big event!

11 MarchResponding to the textures in Steven Campbell’s exhibition, we’ll take rubbings around Tramway to produce a selection of patterned paper that can then be cut up and assembled as a collage.

Adult Workshop 16+Collection of SurfacesSaturday 20 January, 2-4pm£5/£3 concessions

Inspired by the textures in Steven Campbell’s work, we will focus on the technique of frottage (rubbings). We will scout the building and surrounding area (weather permitting) looking for textured surfaces (wood, metal, concrete), and take relief rubbings to produce a selection of patterned papers.

The collected material will then form the pages of a hand-bound book: a collection of surfaces.

BackChatFriday 26 January, 6-8pm£5/£2.50 concessions

BackChat, a facilitated series of informal ‘open table’ discussions, comes to Tramway. Teenage Trilogy Director Christine Devaney and Alice McGrath (Creative Director of Red Bridge Arts) discuss their collaborative approach to making work, and the rewards and challenges around teenagers being involved in the creative process, before opening the discussion up to everyone attending. Join us for a lively conversation and some light refreshments!

Selfie CalloutAged 13-19? Curious Seed needs your selfie video about life as a teenager!

Get involved in the creation of Teenage Trilogy, a new performance work and accompanying online archive. We want to find out what it’s really like for you - the good stuff, the bad stuff, and everything in between. Tell it like it is - and become part of an international project.
