Cataract Backlog-Free Zone Project

Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya creates the record feat in blindness elimination

Since early 1950s, Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya(SNC) has been working on blindness elimination. The

hospital has done more than 10 lakh surgeries till date, giving light to the blind. All this work got

possible with the full support from District Administration, State and Central Government, media and

innumerable support groups enabling the awareness drives across the society. On Oct 2nd, 2014,

Chitakoot District was declared as Cataract backlog-free Zone( CFZ), making it a model for next projects

with the objectives of the program as:

To train ASHA and Anganwadi workers in identifying cataract cases and referring them to nearest eye

care center , to identify, examine and operate all cataract cases in the district and to create a successful

model of eye care service delivery that can be replicated.

District Administration, Health Department, Dep. Of Children and Family Welfare, HelpMeSee

International and Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya, collectively work on tough and tedious task of door-to-

door screening campaign. Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust takes on the onus of picking up the selected

screened patients from their door-steps to the hospital, gets their cataract operated, and brings them

safely to their place. The CFZ projects are validated by District Administration through random

sampling. In order to ensure that backlog doesn’t increase anymore, SNC has ensured the out-reach

screening and vision centers across the states of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

On following dates this quarter, the respective districts were declared as Cataract Back-log Free Zones:

- On January 26th, 2016, Banda District under DM Mr. Suresh Kumar

- On January 26th, 2016, Hamirpur District under DM Ms. Sandhya Tiwari

- On January 28th, 2016, Panna District under DM Mr. Shiv Narayan Singh Chauhana

SNC was received very enthusiastically in presence of Jail Superintendent Mr. Rai and District Collector Ms. Sandhya Tiwari.

On March 26, 2016, the screened inmates were taken by Jail Administration to the base hospital at Chitrakoot for their cataract surgery. Providing Sight to the Blind is the mission of Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust. The Prevalence of Blindness is common among rural people. Women and children are especially vulnerable, being dependents. You can be part of this movement with Sadguru and ensure that no person suffer from needless blindness. Help Now ! In a small town of Timrani in Madhya Pradesh, baby Ashish lives with his parents.. He suffered from

cataract since birth. His parents started realizing the problem as the baby did not responded to other

common sights and voices normally. They visited a nearby doctor who refereed them to Sadguru Netra

Chikitsalaya. Ashish’s father is a laborer and their financial situation is not very sound. This deferred their

arrival to Chitrakoot, but they were determined to get their child treated. Upon coming to the Children’s

Eye Care Center of Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya, Ashish’s operation was done by the Pediatric surgeon at

no cost and the post-surgical care was counseled to the parents.

“Here in Chitrakoot, all are very cooperative. We are very happy that we got the best treatment with no

cost. Our child’s future is safe now. Thanks to Sadguru!”- Father of baby Ashish.
