A Message From Our President, Jasandra Brown

H appy New Year Fellow Toastmasters,

I love January! For me it feels like an early spring. I feel refreshed,

renewed and ready to take on new goals with a new level of enthu-

siasm. I am not sure about you but for me the New Year is also a time of

deep reflection on what I have accomplished and where I want to go. My

goals range from personal, financial, travel, retirement and of course my

Toastmasters goals.

As President of the Naples Toastmasters Club I have the responsibil-

ity of not only my personal Toastmasters goals but the goals I have set for

this club. My personal Toastmasters goals are to: give more speeches; en-

hance my public speaking skills; earn my Advanced Leadership Silver; earn

my Advanced Communicator Bronze; continue meeting the goals necessary

to make it to Distinguished Toastmaster. What are your TM goals? I would

love to hear them.

Let’s reflect on the four point plan I created for our club when I be-

came president.

January - March 2013

Club # 1932007

1. The Naples Toastmasters Club will have 30 members by June 2013 – in hindsight this was a lofty

goal and the process is slower than I anticipated. However, I stand by this goal. We WILL have 30 members by

June 2013. This goal can only be reached with the help of each and every member. If each one of us brought in

one guest who would eventually become a member we would exceed this goal!

2. The Naples Toastmasters Club will be FUN!!!!! This one is harder to judge because to me just going

to our meetings is fun. But I want this view to be shared by every member and guest who walks through the

door. We will continue to work on this.

3. The members of the Naples Toastmasters Club will give effective evaluations! We have worked hard

on this goal. We had one guest speaker and a few educational sessions. As I monitor the feedback given dur-

ing evaluations in our club, I can say with confidence that we are on our way to better evaluations without a

doubt.

4. The Naples Toastmasters Club will develop a website. We can say that this is the first goal that we

have met!!! Thanks to Virginie and her diligence as the Vice President of Public Relations we now have a web-

site. I am so proud of it I could scream. Instead I will light a sparkle on New Year’s Day.

In the year 2013 as you all reflect on your personal goals, I want to ask you to also think about the goals

and standards we have set for our club. Ask what you can do to help us reach our goals for the remainder of

this Toastmaster year.

O nce again, I’d like to remind everyone about the wealth of materials available on the

Toastmasters website. One terrific resource is the selection of 62 archived Podcasts.

http://www.toastmasters.org/podcast

Why not download a few to your ipod; and next time you’re working out, taking a walk,

or traveling you can enjoy a new informative & educational interview.

Have you discovered the Three digital manuals; available in several languages for

FREE to every Toastmasters member?

http://www.toastmasters.org/Members/MemberExperience/NewMember.aspx

Your Speaking Voice

Gestures: Your Body Speaks

Effective Evaluation

These important manuals will help you develop key speaking and leadership skills as

you grow in our Toastmasters club.

Participating in Toastmasters meetings twice a month is important, because we not only

improve our speaking skills, but we also gain a great deal by improving other communication

skills:

listening, evaluating, and providing meaningful feedback.

You can’t gain these skills from reading the magazine; you need to attend our meetings

to gain the most benefit from the club. Please strive to attend every meeting, and you will grow

through these experiences.

Improving our Communication Skills, is much more than presenting prepared speeches.

It involves participating in all the roles. Try signing up

for a new role, or one that challenges you in a new

way. The role of Evaluator offers the perfect opportu-

nity to sharpen these skill sets, and we’re always

looking for volunteers to fill these roles!

THANK YOU to all our members who participated

Once again our Toastmasters Club was at the Market Playce, and it was with a great pleasure that we gave

away information about our Club and Public Speaking.

We hope to have guests visiting us in Janu-ary who seemed interested when passing by our table.

We do not have pictures of all our members who participated that day, but we do thank them all for their involvement !

And congratulations to Theresa McAlpine

who is our raffle winner and won a free

membership.

As you know, during our meeting we vote for our best table topics member. Our last best table top-ics of the year was :

Kenisha Walker

We are looking forward to 2013 to discover more talents and im-provements.

Why did I join Toastmasters by Tara Krause Member

F eeling stagnant while here in Naples, I wanted to become so much more! In search of bettering myself for employ-ment opportunities, I happened to stumble upon Jasandra

Brown, the president of Toastmasters Naples Italy. Unsure of what Toastmasters was, Jasandra invited me! I took a leap, went to a meeting, and I am proud that I did.

Toastmasters gave me confidence in public speaking! Confidence in who I am and what I have to say! I am no longer shy to speak in front of crowds! In a comforting and educational envi-ronment, I continue to perfect my public speaking skills.

I am taking the knowledge I’ve gained in just a few months from Toastmasters, and already applying it to training seminars while feeling competent! Who would have thought. Fear is the only thing holding you back!! Toastmasters can help you break down those walls! I invite you.
