YEAR 3 POPPY MAKING
Year 3 made poppies last week to commemorate Remembrance Day on Thursday 11 November. The year group are looking at festivals and celebrations as their topic this
term and started off the topic by looking at the importance of Remembrance Day. “I really enjoyed cutting out the flower template,” said Ryan Graham from 3H. “I liked
sticking all the petals together – it was fun!” said Katie Badley. The poppies will be on
display in Year 3 on the Topic display boards.

Following the Remembrance Day Assembly when we observed a two minute silence, some children in Year 4 wrote poems about what they might have heard had they listened REALLY, REALLY hard!

P.T.A quiz night!What a night! On cold November’s evening, the community of Norwood was heating up for
the PTA’s annual quiz night! There was a fantastic turn out, with up to 80 people getting together to join in the fun. The atmosphere was buzzing and laughter lifted the roof in a never done before singing round! What talent Norwood has! Watch out Simon Cowell!
All proceeds went to the school’s art festival and the winning team were the McCarthy’s.A big thank you to Bob and Mrs Ferrier, who fronted the event.
Many thanks to all people who shared in the evening! We can’t wait till the next social!
The evening made a profit of £164.00 which will be added to our Arts Festival Fund! Thank you to everybody involved.
Security Marking (Free)Did you know that marked phones and bikes have a better chance of being returned to their
owners should they be lost or stolen?You are invited to have your mobile phones and bikes security marked, free of charge, by
our Community Support Officers.
The community Support Officers will be in the hall from 2.30 on Thursday 25th November. The team will take down some basic details and will ultraviolet mark your equipment. If
children have their equipment marked their names will go into a draw for the chance to win
cinema tickets for themselves and three friends.

With the weather against us yet again, leading to a heavy pitch, Norwood were unable to get going to play their usual smooth, free-flowing football. OLOL managed the conditions better however, scoring two goals in the first third.
Although Norwood battled hard they were unable to get through the OLOL back line. Throughout the game OLOL skilfully advanced but Norwood Goalkeeper, Aaron Rimmer pulled off some excellent saves
keeping it at 2-0 until the last third. Finally, OLOL scored a third goal making the final score, 3-0 to Our Lady of Lourdes.
A great effort nonetheless by Norwood.

Shinewaves Competition Time
Last week’s competition was to design a Bullybusters poster. All entries have been forwarded to the area competition. The Norwood winner was Katy Watkinson 4M Congratulations!
This week’s competition has an American flavour as Mr Dumbell has donated two San Francisco 49ers flags as prizes.
Thanksgiving Day, which is coming up shortly, is a harvest festival celebrated in the United States of America. So, this week’s competition is to find out what is traditionally eaten at this festival and to design a Thanksgiving menu. You can
write, draw or use a computer to create your menu-be as creative as you want!Pop your entries in the competition post box, outside the hall, by the morning of Wednesday 24th November. Make sure you
put your name and class on the back.

Guy Fawkes took time out of his extremely busy schedule, plotting to blow up King James I, to visit Year 6 children at Norwood. During his visit Guy explained why he and his fellow conspirators have taken to such drastic measures. He also
explained what would happen to him, should his plot be foiled! Guy Fawkes also answered the children's questions about the gunpowder plot. Before returning to 1605 London to continue his preparations, Guy posed while the children sketched
him.

bageach night after school. Newsletters are sent
home on
a weekly basis and we do send other letters and
communication as well.
You might miss an invitation to an event that your child is taking part in.

Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI) is working with The Eden Project, the International Flower Bulb Centre (IBC), the National Trust and Learning through Landscapes to plant purple crocus bulbs from the beginning of October so they will be
in flower for Rotary Day – 23 February 2011. These Purple Flowers represent the colour of ink dabbed on a child’s little finger to indicate they have been immunised against polio. Rotary clubs across RIBI are currently contacting their local
schools, residential homes, local councils and other community organisations to ask them to identify suitable sites which
can then be planted with swathes of purple crocus bulbs in the autumn – as a reminder of the essential need to continue the fight to eradicate polio from our world.
Keith Mitchell from Southport Rotary brought over 200 crocus bulbs to Norwood to allow us to take part in this project. We decided to plant them in the school woodland area. Years 1 and 3 enjoyed planting the bulbs during their Forest School
lessons. We look forward to seeing the purple flowers in early Spring.
